<6> there used to be this kernel patch called "badram" (and its err... pre or post-decessor, badmem) ... that was all pre-2.6... now there is a nice kernel commandline option called EXACT MEMMAP= .... so you run memtest with serial output enabled, and log to another machine... run it for a day or 2... a LONG time... then you note on the other machine, all the bits of ram that failed (remembering that memtest and the computer in general ON
