<0> kthx bye <1> ok <1> ive run memtest now <1> a couple of times <1> brb <1> hello <2> omghi2u!!kekeke <1> ok, ive run memtest, i still get segmentation fault when i try to emerge mod_perl <0> well yeah <3> memtest doesn't fix anything, it just points out if you have bad ram <1> ok, so I dont have bad ram, thats nice <1> any other common causes of emerge segfaults? <4> can you actually see what line the segfault occurs at? <0> happens on multiple ebuld crc <4> how many?
<4> I'm sure its one particular service thats faulting. <4> well I'm not sure but I'd bet money <0> i'll bet crc's house it's hardware <4> hmm. <4> Yea but woulden't he be seeing all kinds of trouble, rather then his trouble being isolated to emerge? <1> pinkerton: what hardware could it be then, if I don't have bad memory? <0> cpu, mobo <0> crc: yeah, it's the only thing that pushes the system <4> usually I get kernel panics when my hardware borks. <4> Oh I see you mean like a heat issue? <0> possible <4> some I'm like dangling pointer or hardware fault? <0> something <0> seg faults just always point to hw <0> just how it goes <4> heh. Well in my younger days my goofy C code would segault all the time. :( <4> But I'm all better now. <4> looks like he segaulted. ;) <0> HEH <0> if it was one thing <0> yeah i'd expect it <0> but lots of emaerges no <4> Did he say how many he was getting? <4> I just wish I could see what processes were segfaulting to confirm. They should like add a segfault log or something. ;) <5> did you see that.. <0> he said 3 different ebuilds <0> you are more than welcome to try and get that info and figure it out <0> i got works to do <4> pinkerton when you get slapped with a hardware fault do you replace the whole machine or try to identify which component failed? <0> each component at a time <0> if i can <4> yea I'm like. Ok I no longer trust my CPU my memory or the board so out with the whole thing. :| <3> does the machine crash in other OSes? <1> i dont run other oses on it <1> it's my server <4> heh in my case thats what saves me. I boot konoppix and see nothing wrong so I reinstall the original OS in that case. <3> well that's a way to test <3> boot into something that can stress test your system <1> such as... <6> memtest <1> i just did that <7> doesnt look like my torque brace is going to work <7> the guy that made the brackets has a different motor mount than i do <7> so the clearance is different <7> wait, you replace your whole box when the floppy drive goes out? <4> no <4> but I tend to treat the CPU, Memory, and mobo as the same unit. Cause once either of them goes its hard to be certain which component failed. <4> and I'm a tad paranoid and ***ume that the components probably damaged each other in the long run. <3> it's not that hard to figure out <3> bad ram is bad ram <3> cpu and mobo are a bit harder depending upon part of the mobo <4> thats kinda what I mean. <5> How do you make gopss laugh on Friday? A: Tell him a joke on Monday! <4> I'm like is it the Memory mapper on the CPU that went out or is it really my ram that went bad. Swapping memory out usually shows the same error so I conclude its the CPU or mobo. At this point the machine is so old I'm replace all 3 as its not likely they sell the parts new. <3> good point <2> http://www.scienceblog.com/cms/australians_claim_ion_space_engine_breakthrough_9794 <0> aussies claim NOTHING
<2> too bad. <2> and I dont mind one bit. <2> I wish every country in the world except US would come up with something US doesnt have so that we'll spring int oaction. <2> since we're merely a reactive country. <2> which is ridiculous :( <4> Wow I didn't think ion drives really exsisted. <7> oh fawking hell <7> im getting 1400 new users <4> users for what? <7> to support <7> they are moving to my app <7> that i support <4> what app is that? <7> an internal siebel app <4> finally boot strap is done <5> bob <0> boob! <0> BOOBIES! <8> ***? <9> anybody use kde here? <4> not yet <0> never <4> I have 93 more pakages to go before "emerge -e system" is finished. %| <2> Anyway to imbed a gif file into an html, so that the htm file is more portable, and doesnt have to reference something external? <0> no <2> pewp <2> any way to draw a colored circle with a black border in html? ;) <8> hmmm <4> whats the speed on your processor Ne0rder I'm doing a rebuild on a 566Mhz <9> for some reason, most of my non-kde apps and some of my kde apps can't find their icons <9> the icons are there <9> in their default location <4> no idea. I tend to use konsole commands directly <8> P4 3hz HT <8> my laptop is a 2.4ghz P4. I may do that this weekend aswell <4> crap I'm in for a week of down time <8> well, get the basics done first. <8> X and a small window manager. <8> and then use your box and compile with nice -9 (there is a make.conf option) for this. <8> the thing about work box is that I got a 10meg uplink... at home I'm on an EVDO card... tho, I think if done right I can DL while compiling and stay a head of hte game on packages like glibc and gcc <8> heh <5> ^_^ <4> yea but its kinda weird. bootstrapping compiled glibc and gcc and poof I'm watching it compile all over again with emerge -e system <8> yepo <8> eyp <8> yep <8> err <4> you can download 10 megabits at a time? <8> I'll do a stage 3 install typicaly and get things running and recompile the base libes with my flags after the fact. <8> so it's kinda redoing things but ohh well. <8> heh <4> thats what I did. The docs don't recommend useing a stage1 install, they do allow you to boot strap after a stage3 though. <4> then immediatly after the bootstrap they tell you to "emerge -e system". :( <4> Ive done stage1 installs in the past but I don't remember it taking this long. <7> office <7> err <7> microwave popcorn should be banned from the office <10> some ***hole burn it and stink the office up? <7> **** makes the whole floor stink <10> I hate dumb ****s that can't cook popcorn <7> even when its cooked right, it smells so strong <10> as long as its not burnt its tolerable :-) <7> so al jazeera played a bin laden tape today <7> d00d needs to learn what a cd burner is <11> HeppyCat: easy, it's any fire, you throw the cd in it and it burn <4> I'm I hearing this right. Bin Ladin is suggesting a truce?
