<4> I'm like is it the Memory mapper on the CPU that went out or is it really my ram that went bad. Swapping memory out usually shows the same error so I conclude its the CPU or mobo. At this point the machine is so old I'm replace all 3 as its not likely they sell the parts new.

<4> thats what I did. The docs don't recommend useing a stage1 install, they do allow you to boot strap after a stage3 though.
