<11> most desktops will have a couple of little things in swap during normal use, and often BIG compiles will push some stuff in there... for example, (simplified) if i don't look at firefox for an hour, do all kindsa memory using stuff inbetween, firefox will get pushed (at least partly) into swap... then when i click on it again the drive goes mental and it takes a few moments to start 'cos the data has to be un-swapped
