<0> Hello, is there a way to temporarily say to portage to use /my_partition/my_folder instead of /var/tmp/portage? (openoffice too big :-()
<1> change PORTAGE_TMPDIR in /etc/make.conf
<0> Viza, thanks a lot!
<1> np
<2> thanks
<3> heh.. i'd have just been cheap and created a symlink
<4> Hi.
<2> tyvek: !!!!!!!!!!!!!
<5> hello Autie :)
<2> :)
<4> -_-
<4> mmm tyvek
<6> heh
<7> BEAR
<7> GOOD MORNING
<7> HELP ME

<7> hehe
<4> o_O
<7> you cant have started drinking already
<7> :-D
<4> ;)
<6> oh... good morning
<6> i was thinking about drinking but i'm gonna have a nap instead... work was rained and colded out today
<6> what do you need fixe d?
<7> the mail method you suggested
<7> there's no man page for aliases.db
<6> oh that... yeah... you caught me on a good day
<6> umm... k... lemme just login to the machine
<6> try man aliases :)
<7> ah ha
<7> super
<6> oh .. thats right (he said after scrambling his terminal) ... there is some command or little util that converts the flat text aliases to aliases.db and etc for the otehr files
<7> yeah, new aliases
<7> err
<7> newaliases
<6> oh... my one looks like the default one... lots of stuff for the rfc like news:usenet
<6> usenet:root
<7> yeah, I have all that already
<6> oh... i did it all in virtual on that machine...
<6> wow.... i set up a whole dynamic dns domain for junkmail and forgot about it :)
<6> i haven't looked at this thing for years :)
<6> model name: Pentium 75 - 200
<6> Linux kent 2.4.18-27.7.x #1 Fri Mar 14 06:58:54 EST 2003 i586 unknown :)
<7> hehe
<6> last non-gentoo machine i've even got access too currently
<7> can I see j00r config and aliases file?
<6> ok then.... i'm gonna have a nap (late night work today and tomorrow) ....
<6> oh....
<7> okee
<6> i suppose maybe... lemme look at it
<7> have a nice nap :D
<6> hmm...
<6> k... you can see the short version of main.cf if you don't try to use it aginst me... and err
<6> my aliases is 100% unmodified
<7> lol
<6> half the reason i don't like this system is 'cos it uses local users for local domain, and virtuals ONLY for virtuals, but i'm sure EITHER pam or a sneaky fake-virtual delivery postfix setup like i use now could get around it....
<7> well, thanks for the help :)
<6> on new systems i'm setting all deliveries as virtual agent, then (from memory) that means that the user database (in this case postfix,) gets used for ALL the users, not just virtual domain ones, and therefore you can keep your system clean with only 1 postfix user rather than one for each client you want locally... but of course i'm sure pam can do that with the setup i just shower you
<6> mmm.. good luck... i'll be back in a few hours
<8> I'm running off with the mailman.
<9> hey!
<9> someone here working in the igaming industry plese?
<10> igaming? this ain't a mac channel

<11> had to make one for work

<12> anyone know if I can list check_policy_service multipul times in postfix?
<13> what kind of a file is cpkg?
<10> file it
<14> I'm having a few problems here. If anyone could help, I'd be grateful. It's been a while since I used gentoo, and last time everything went smoothly. This time, I'm having issues with ipw2200 and ati-drivers.
<14> The ati-thing first. I've done everything described in the howto and the various troubleshooting guides I've found, but fgrlxinfo still reports the damn Mesa libraries being in control of OpenGL.
<14> if I try opengl-update --get-implementation, it reports ati.
<14> Isn't "eselect opengl set ati" supposed to knock out the mesa libs?
<8> hay t9k316. narf
<8> What's it going to take to get you into this car?
<12> WHOOOOOOOOT got the last of my network sockets hooked up, reconfigured my phone lines... and I'm now running my adsl not that stupid wireless ****
<8> ***imilation is futile, you will be resi... D'OH!
<8> Welcome to our next contestant, traumahound!
<15> I got the system to boot. I had to play with several differant CD-ROM readers, AND get the termination proper.
<15> ...of course, I forgot to plug the hard drive power in, and I took it out to verify the jumpers... and then... I dropped it.
<15> ...and it's a quantum, so you can do the math.
<16> i shouldn't have a problem with an 8x agp card in a 4x slot since its 3.0 compliant? i mean only worry with agp is voltage right? and if its 3.0 compliant it should do 0.8 just fine?
<17> try and fry
<16> its not my box i don't wanna pay for it.
<16> bios says its agp 3.0 compliant. its a cheap *** biostar board.
<16> but it can only do 4x max
<16> its got a fx5500 in it though.
<8> shh Spion-, it's quiet time now
<18> i need to allow someone shell access to a remote gentoo server to do web developement on an apache install, but dont want to give him root - any advice on the proper methodology to go about this?
<8> a bush
<16> http://www.tjw.org/chroot-login-HOWTO/
<16> and i'd also consider putting them n a group so they can write to the dirs in the web root.
<18> yeah for some reason i thought /var/www/localhost/htdocs/ was root:apache and id just slap him in apache
<18> but its not that simple, of course
<16> you'll have to change the perms on the web root
<16> give the group write access but not everybody.
<18> in addition to that article?
<18> thanks for the advice, btw
<16> that article is just how to do a chroot login. that is only gonna stop them from surfing the disks.
<16> and they may need access to other **** so unless you wanna clutter up your webroot with it i'd scratch that idea.
<16> still half asleep.
<18> all he should need access to is mysql and the webroot..
<18> in practice its not a huge deal if he goes elsewhere - its a fresh install; but the princeple and the idea of it isnt appealing.
<16> mysql should be pretty straight forward.
<18> yea
<18> that page sounds like a long way around the http://www.jmcresearch.com/projects/jail/
<16> i'd just chown the web root to a group, put them in that group, give them write access in that group, and let them have at it. then change it back when they are done.
<16> just don't make things world writable.
<18> that sounds like the practical thing to do to me
<16> if its a fresh install shouldn't be anything sensitive they don't need to see.
<16> even if they have access to the drive shadow is still safe. only thing i'd really be worried about... other than maybe their code.
