<0> Blblblblblbl.
<1> how do i work around a blocked package? shadow is blocking me from installing pam-login
<2> its a (stupid) known thing
<3> http://planet.gentoo.org/developers/flameeyes/2006/03/19/the_shadow_and_pam_login_conflict
<2> emerge -aCv shadow; emerge -v pam-login
<3> wrong way :)
<2> it would be a good idea to be logged in to at least 2 sessions if you're not sure what you're doing
<2> s0ulslack: why?
<3> should be emerge -C pam-login && emerge -u shadow
<2> lol
<2> aiiight
<1> emerge -C pam-login && emerge -u shadow
<2> funny
<0> Respect.
<1> thats what the link says
<1> thanks s0ulslack

<2> anyway, ****ing stupid issue which should never have come about
<1> what if pam-login isnt currently installed?
<2> sometimes i wonder wtf the dev's keep their intelligence
<2> ImNotMark: dont do anything, and log a bug?
<1> i cant login tho, me being a moron last night (while drunk) had the great idea to uninstall pam-login and update shadow then try to reinstall pam-login
<3> if sshd was started before all that you should still be able to get in
<1> is there a problem with utempter and libutempter aswell?
<4> yeah... i did that last night and nothing broke yet....
<4> a few days ago on another machine...
<1> how did you get around it?
<4> with ones like that (identical thing, new name) if you know (are pretty sure) its safe just emerge -C or --clean or --prune packagename then either emerge newpackagename or re-try what you were doing (last night i said emerge -pv system again after removing the blocking package, and lib-utempter was in the new list)
<1> right now coldplug is blocking udev and utempter is blocking libutempter
<2> lol
<2> instanity
<1> how the hell do i get around coldplug and udev :/
<4> at a guess, i would say remove udev (DO NOT REBOOT !!!!) then try emerge -pv coldplug udev or something like that and see what you see ... if you have quickpkg (you might need gentoolkit to get it) you can quickpkg udev THEN remove it, if theres a problem boot with a livecd and emerge -K "=sys-apps/udev-version" (i think its -K) will put your old one right back where it was
<1> i should just smack myself for wqanting to goto unstable
<4> as in totally ? thats a bit dodgy.... a few things here and there is usually ok
<1> yeah, i put in ACCEPT_KEYWORD="~x86" in make.conf
<4> mmmm... that would probably break the odd thing here and there... you could always try taking it out and going backwards (emerge -pev world to check, emerge -ev world to rebuild EVERYTHING)
<4> if you wanted too
<1> ok fixed udev and coldplug
<1> now to get around this libutempter and utempter
<4> theres a fast-search (ebuild) thing called eix ... if you emerge that then make a database with update-eix you can do eix utemp and it should show you a description (and other stuff) for both of them... might tell you if they do the same thing as each other
<4> emerge -S utemp will do it too, but WAY slower
<5> I tried to upgrade my dvb drivers
<5> now I get unresolved symbol errors on both versions
<6> esearch
<4> Freman, re-build some other stuff <grin>
<4> pinkArton, i dunno, last i checked it was slower and took WAY longer to update db, but i like the formatting more
<6> i dunno thats what i use
<4> try eix, if nothing else so you know.... its not big to emerge
<4> no more 50/51% BULL****
<4> work time.. cya all
<7> hay mr bear
<7> what what this plugin is you speak of
<6> eh i like esearch
<6> esearch blah
<6> done
<7> eix
<6> and when i sync my portage tree i do esync
<1> hrmmmm
<1> well i did eix
<6> and i did yer mom
<6> so what now!
<1> utempter is "App that allows non-privileged apps to write utmp (login) info" and libutempter is "Library that allows non-privileged apps to write utmp (login) info, which need root access"
<1> pinkArton: did she atleast give you a cake and $50?
<6> yeah i got a couple lines
<6> oh
<6> soda
<6> no i don't drink that ****
<1> cake not coke
<6> wow
<6> i have a smudge right there
<6> thats really funny
<1> thats what happens when you browser the web for pr0n
<1> -r

<6> lol
<7> hah
<1> you guys try out xgl yet?
<7> not i
<7> know plenty of friends that have
<1> im thinkin of trying it, seems like some work tho
<6> lies
<8> so, vista kinda stole the idea, right?
<8> :D
<6> you have no friends
<0> ^_^
<8> (with "aero")
<9> :-)
<9> =D
<1> seems bloated
<1> 140 aps need to compile when i emerge x0rg 7
<3> its modular, and xorg is huge
<1> yeah
<6> and ****s
<6> :)
<10> vista stole the idea from os x
<6> and ding
<10> as did xgl. but i don't really think you can call it stealing.
<10> it's just "this is where GUI is going"
<6> vista got the idea from
<10> let's see who does it best
<6> we all know who will win ;)
<8> why would someone 3d-rotate stuff on screen?
<7> they stole it from NeXT!
<8> "more space" ?
<7> Spiun: they have a severely underused 3d card
<8> lol
<11> there should be nothing wrong in runing a gentoo genkernel on a debian, no?
<8> ... but ... why
<11> cuz debian kernels are retarded with vesafb and I already have another machine with similar hardware runing gentoo kernel with vesafb runing very well
<8> ah.
<8> the question was, why debian
<8> nevermind :P I don't know, never tried
<12> normally, a kernel is a kernel
<12> unless debian require some kernel patch, which shouln't then it should work
<6> um
<6> no that won't work
<6> genkernel is funky
<6> does special things
<6> and should not be used
<11> < finds genkernel usefull on laptops where you can not predict what hardware you will throuw at them on the move
<13> genkernel is evil
<14> very
<0> watch out for the moose
<0> Master?
<13> Gurkan, do you want to genkernel Psych?
<9> Knows.
<0> amen
<7> yay home time
<7> have venison to grill :)
<12> LOL
<12> nice bug!
<5> http://pastebin.com/761116 <- the people autobanned by my ssh patch in the past 2 weeks
<12> [ebuild U ] x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.25.18 [8.24.8] +opengl 35,420 kB
<12> [ebuild UD] x11-drivers/ati-drivers-8.23.7 [8.24.8] +opengl 33,641 kB
<12> that is from the same emerge -uDav world
<13> they don't even make it past the firewall here
<5> they get autofirewalled
<0> You know it's been a good night when you go in your bag for the camera and it's in there with your tights.
<6> wtf was that trigger
<11> YAY long live gentoo
<11> vesafb in debian
<6> did that actually work?
