<0> hi everyone <0> im having some problems with special chars.. <0> printf("l\x86dan"); gives me c:\Skolarbeten\Del2\del2_b\del2_b.c(33): error C2022: '34522' : too big for character <0> but if i: printf("l\x86 dan"); it works <0> anyone know a way around this? <0> on the later one i get a space char that isnt supposed to be there <1> printf("l\x86%s", "dan") <0> hmm.. is that the only way? <1> there are probably others <0> is there a way to limit \x86? so it dosnt include a-f chars after it? <1> conver x86 into decimal <0> float? <1> int <2> printf("l\x86" "dan"); <0> thanks Xirtam, worked like a charm :) <0> anyone remember how to put statements within printf?
<0> like: printf("text month%s\r\n", months>1("s")); <3> you could do <3> %c and months>1?'s':' ' <3> or <3> "\0s"[months>1] <0> thanks dbtid :) <0> is fgets + atoi the best way to get integers from the keyboard? <2> strtol() is better than atoi(). <0> ok, thanks :) <4> What do FTP servers do when file send fails durring a file upload? Are partial files ever written? does ftp protocol cover this? <5> Asmodee`: I ordered that K&R second edition book <5> I found this other book at work, that seems to have a signed short integer range error <5> it says -32767 to 32767 <5> shouldn't it be -32768? am I wrong? <6> Nope, it's right. <6> The book, that is. <5> hrm <5> doesn't counting start at -1 with the negatives, though? <6> ***ume a signed-magnitude machine; values range 0..32767, then add a sign bit. <4> does any part of the ftp protocol require rename files durring upload to a temporary file name until they are fully uploaded? <5> bitrot: I'm just looking at it from this angle <5> I have 15 bits of numbers, and 1 bit that stores the sign <5> 15 bits of numbers give me 32768 different values, that start at 0 for positive <5> so positive range is 0-32767 <5> negative range should be -1 to -32768 <5> that's my logic <6> No, total range is 0..32767; you have 15 value bits. Now add a sign, it;s 0..32767 or -0..-32767 <5> oh <5> I see <5> so false ***umption that negative counting begins at -1 <6> On *some* machines, they actually go -32768...32767... but that's not required... because other machines can't do it (without going to a bigger type, and what's the point of that?) <5> just following the rules of math, I would think it would go to -32768 <5> I mean, wtf is -0? =) <6> Math doesn't have to deal with umpteen different bit representations in hardware. <6> It's a 0 value with the sign bit set. <6> Your compiler is expected to be smart enough to treat -0 and 0 as equal... but they have different bit patterns on such machines. <5> I see <7> I've actually never seen -0 <6> One would think a compiler worth its salt would tend to convert automatically... however, the bit pattern is, AIUI, perfectly valid. <7> hmm. salty compiler <5> sudo woman -c getinthekitchenandmakememydinner <8> ty <5> Asmodee`: thanks for the K&R recommendation. I'm reading it now. <5> it's a little terse but they are definitely more to the point about what is considered to be C functionality and itself and what is provided by external functions. <9> thnks <10> where I can find make bnf? <11> hi, how do i set a socket to be non-blocking ? i've googled and came up with fcntl(socket, F_SETFL, O_NONBLOCK); but upon using this i get http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/N7y3yH59.html <11> i've included fcntl.h. <12> why are you using the winsocks 1.1 library? <11> didn't think i needed the winsock 2 for this.. just started playing with winsock. so is it because i'm using winsock 1.1 ? <12> anyway, are you sure you have the right header(s) included? <12> no -- i'm just wondering why you are using the ancient interface. <11> these are the headers i have included http://www.rafb.net/paste/results/UPYGj547.html <11> fcntl.h is there.. though yea, it looks as if i need to include something else too :-\.. just don't know what. <12> what does your documentation for fcntl an O_NONBLOCK say? <11> i got the info on the non-blocking socket here: http://www.manualy.sk/sock-faq/ <11> it says <11> Technically, fcntl(soc, F_SETFL, O_NONBLOCK) is incorrect since it clobbers all other file flags. Generally one gets away with it since the other flags (O_APPEND for example) don't really apply much to sockets. In a similarly rough vein, you would use fcntl(soc, F_SETFL, 0) to go back to blocking mode. <11> ow, seems i have you have to include unistd.h on some systems too. <11> same error :-\ <11> can't find nothing in my headers about F_SETFL/O_NONBLOCK.. these are the headers i've got with devcpp 4.9.8.0.. guess they're missing something.
