<0> do not include stdafx.h from that file
<1> I mean, why are you on a fixed income, lostnlost, and why are you looking into programming?
<2> need something to do
<2> can't drive
<3> oh my god
<3> sorry to all
<2> looks interesting
<1> Why can't you drive?
<2> failed my driving test 2 years ago
<3> my filename was .c
<0> i ***umed that was correct
<0> by default, the vc++ project system will p*** a switch to the compiler to compile a .c file as C
<1> How old are you?
<0> and not C++
<2> 81
<1> What'd you do for a living?

<2> teacher
<4> heh
<1> What'd you teach, and where?
<1> I'm just curious, you don't have to say
<0> hmm
<0> doh
<2> high school PE in Billings
<0> forgot to add a subscriber to the PrivateMessage event
<1> Cool
<1> Well
<1> Visual C++ 6.0 is woefully out of date
<1> But it's probably a little more accessible than any free alternatives
<2> nobody uses /whois anymore, do they?
<1> And it doesn't sound like the problems would matter heavily to you, for now anyway
<0> heh
<5> JBlitzen: dev-c++ comes to mind...less accessible, but more current
<1> /whois is integrated into the uwho tool in mIRC, I think.
<5> ***uming it's still being made
<0> jb, that's doomgazer you dolt
<1> Is it?
<1> Oh goddamnit
<4> ohhh
<1> Thanks, khan
<4> heh
<0> test
<1> testes
<0> Message to #c++ from peterhu: test
<0> there we go
<4> fail
<5> hah, that's pretty funny
<1> Message to peterhu from #C++: ungay!
<0> negative
<1> Don't unban doomgazer, let the ban expire in 200 hours.
<1> So is that your bot?
<4> cppbot sit
<0> yeah, rudimentary right now
<4> cppbot roll over
<0> flushing out the IRC side of things, the bot consumes a bunch of events on an IRC connection object
<0> once that's done, it will utilize a plugin interface to supply capabilities
<0> connection->PrivateMessage += gcnew PrivateMessageEventHandler(this, &Bot::OnPrivateMessage);
<1> That seems difficult to script
<0> 11 events and counting
<0> script how
<1> I dunno
<1> We could tell c-bot how to respond to stuff
<4> for serving my mp3s
<0> there will be a plugin that understands how to learn new factoids, etc
<1> It didn't usually work, but, you know, it was a nice idea
<1> Ah
<0> the bot itself will do very little except keep track of users
<0> the plugins will do the work
<1> nod
<0> but there will be some commands the bot accepts
<1> cppbot hello
<0> it's written entirely in safe C++/CLI, so it's really just an excuse to become more familiar with C++/CLI
<0> as you could take the syntax and port it directly to C# with minimal effort
<1> nod
<5> they're doing the worst karaoke I've ever heard downstairs
<4> downstairs?
<4> I don't hear it

<5> consider yourself lucky
<4> okay
<1> This is a smart idea, crystal light selling little packets that you dump into a 16 oz bottle of water and shake to produce a flavored drink
<1> kool-aid should consider that
<0> one of those ideas we all should have thought of first
<6> jb
<0> doh
<0> didn't capture all of it
<0> bad bot
<1> Awww, isn't that cute
<1> It's like how Hank Hill's dog went after the black repairman because Hank hates repairmen
<1> Your bot went after me because you're attracted to men
<1> You've created AI!
<1> Or perhaps AG
<1> Artificial Gaey
<5> they just changed uiuc's cs program so that it's significantly more programming oriented. good or bad?
<7> JB, maybe peterhu's bot didn't go toward you ebcasue he's attracted to men in general, btu rather becasue he'Sa ttracted to you.
<1> ew
<1> Dunno, reltuk
<1> What was it before?
<5> minimum of 3 theory courses, an intro programming course, a data structures course, an OS course, a languages course and a bunch of electives
<5> they dropped mostly physics and an outside-of-CS "application sequence" (kind of like a minor)
<5> and added a "programming lab" in it's place...
<5> Code Complete is the book, dinky two-day projects followed by code reviews are the main mechanism of teaching
<5> in the first line, i forgot a couple architecture courses...
<5> and replaced the OS course with a system's programming course
<0> damn it
<0> off by one error
<4> bwahha
<0> one more try
<8> anyone know of some freeware code samples of an app that does similar stuff to the ebay website?
<1> I imagine you can find ecommerce stuff at www.aspnet.com or wherever
<4> er, heh
<1> Ebay's success isn't so much a matter of code but of design and marketing, Crow.
<6> jb is the ****
<0> there we go
<1> The code itself for what they do, at least basically, is quite simple.
<0> now bear witness to this fully operational trollbot!
<0> bare too
<0> if you want
<0> whatever
<7> I think jb has ought to eb "teh" ****. =P
<6> jb is teh ****
<8> I don't disagree the basic functionality is quite simple...but ebay's site is a bit more complex with more features than the average software. It's evolved much over the years. Actually, my interest was in marketing it in small third-world countries. :)
<7> Awesome. =P
<3> sorry for this question, but how i can link a .lib file with my project
<1> Now witness
<1> the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station!
<5> Crow-1: you're looking for a freeware ebay clone?
<1> hm
<8> no clone, just a software that basically registers accts in a database, takes auctions, allows blacklisting of unreliable people.
<8> Would e-commerce be the best way to describe ebay's software? or is ecommerce a more general term that refers to a group of software of which ebay's would belong?
<1> I think ecommerce would be close
<1> To the code you're looking for
<7> Justin_T: Go to the projects' properties, and I'm pretty sure it'S under "Linkers", somethign like "General" and the field "Additional dependencies".
<0> !say jb is definitely the ****
<1> I would consider ecommerce specifically to be something a bit different, focusing on selling your items online through your website
<7> Though I don't have VS.Net on this computer, and Ic anT' remember by heart.
<0> hmm
<1> But it's pretty semantic
<3> thanx DrkMatter
<8> thanks JBlitzen
<1> Sure
<1> Custom software companies can do that sort of thing, can design it too
<6> jb sorry, mistyped privmsg
<3> DrkMatter there is Aditional Library Directories
<1> Stuff like that is what I do
<1> Khan, your bot is already beginning to ****
<0> heh
<1> And it's only been like eight minutes
<8> I gues sit would pay to write it ... the thing is I'm rally not up to scratch with any language at the moment to know how secure they would be for something publically available
<1> Not really sure what you mean
<0> i limited it to privmsgs only, brb
