<0> hex to dec is meaningless
<0> no I don't
<1> vawjrwrk, I have a long long int I want to output in hex, then I want to read it back in to that long long int again
<0> I've never seen a real program that converts hexadecimal to decimal
<0> long long isn't standard C++
<2> But even so, it's easy enough to do with streams.
<1> vawjrwrk, so programs that deal with HEX HTML colours dont convert it to a number?
<0> << hex << yourlonglong
<1> ok
<2> vawjrwrk, he does have a point.
<1> >> dec >> yourlonglong
<0> >> hex >> yourlonglong
<1> ?
<2> As far as applicability.
<2> But, threat... since when is an HTML color a long long?
<2> #FFFFFF

<0> last I checked HTML colors were 32bit
<2> Less than 32 bit
<0> 24bit, correct
<0> I've gotta go pick up daughter from "Kids Club" I'll check in at home
<1> Solamente, that was an example, I never said it wa a long long
<1> I could of just said int
<3> Actually, my printf example was bad. Should have used three variable-length strings and sprintf.
<3> char *str3 = malloc(strlen(str1) + strlen(str2) + 1); /* Wheee */
<3> Or better yet, I could do what I see our C programmers do, and #declare MAX_STR 1024 and treat all strings as the same length, and never bounds check.
<3> And then I can go moonlight as a fake discount doctor or plumber as a night job.
<3> To be fair, I only saw one guy do that, and I don't think they normally let him program. Hopefully still don't, after what I had to say about his code.
<4> Looking for an 8 person free vent server
<3> Der_fisch: I thought the whole of all IRC nets consisted of ree "vent servers".
<3> s/ree/free
<5> jbatista, even microsoft does that crap... see _MAX_PATH and _makepath
<5> buffer overflow galore
<3> Yep, yep.
<3> But not even bothering to check for overruns is the worst part.
<3> I think MS at least -tries- to. Seems like they've gotten better lately.
<5> yeah, they replaces all their "oops what was I thinking" code with other stuff heh
<3> More like "oops, wasn't thinking".
<3> Just yesterday, I was talking to the boss about this super-lame startup script that I found on one of our "mission-critical" conveyor servers.
<3> It uses .cmd file "sleep" commands to attempt to synchronize the startup of half a dozen processes with a critical startup sequence.
<5> nice
<3> Our customer went to install some monitoring software and it took down the whole coneyor, probably because it altered the timing, being that it and those other processes kick off opon Windows login.
<3> s/opon/upon
<3> I suspect that developers just conclude "Well, it works now, and I'll have been payed by the time that it doesn't, so who cares?"
<5> yes, its the "that will never happen" attitude
<5> like today... I found import / export code with absolutely no error checking... and the import code opened the files r+b meaning read only files would fail, and the user would have no clue why
<3> I have more of a "Wouldn't this waste a ton of somebody's valuable life if they had to troubleshoot this obscure-*** error that's easily avoidable" attitude.
<3> Twister49: Exactly. I've seen vast application systems coded with that mentality, and it's scary.
<5> indeed
<6> omg
<6> vb6 is so gay
<3> Yes.
<6> i think im just going to dump it and keep learning C++
<3> In the negative sense of the word.
<6> Do you want to know what it is doing?
<3> No.
<6> well, ill tell you anyway
<6> it is executing random lines of random events
<6> for no reason
<5> oh, theres a reason... it might not be a good one, but theres a reason.
<6> -.-
<6> it is loading line 39, from command button cmdOK, off of form frmNewGame, which isnt even loaded into memory
<3> I attempted to learn C++ with Microsoft Embedded (In Your ***) C++, and it was like stabbing myself in the ear with a pencil every day for several months.
<3> Don't mess with it.
<6> bautista, as in the pirates bautista?
<3> MSEVC was supposed to be a current, presumably improved product. It was based on VC6 and it blew unimaginably.
<3> No, "Batista". No "u"s.
<6> well, i just figured you didnt have enough room because of the server limit
<3> Didn't have enough room on what server?
<6> or is that efnet
<7> yeah
<7> nvm
<7> that is efnet
<3> Lastly, and specifically, MSEVC would often crash with "internal errors", or it would report compile-time errors on lines that didn't even contain the symbols that it was complaining about.
<3> And that's before you even begin on standards conformance.
<3> I would have done well to stick to C, at the time.
<8> my problem is simple but frustraing....
<3> clikka: They have medicine for that.

<8> I'm trying to take a carraige return of a string...
<5> out of?
<8> I read a line from a file and then want to strcat to that line only to have my addition on a new line.
<8> So I imagine the line I'me reading has a caraige return included....
<8> this C++ is so odd......
<8> I tried deleting the last character but that failed.
<8> ok, thanks for your time guys........
<9> how you define winxp in preprocessor?
<10> #define _WIN32_WINNT 0x0501
<3> marp: I don't know, I'm not an MS floozie.
<3> Why is this on-line training in French. Bah.
<10> marp, take the complete reference
<10> http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/winprog/winprog/using_the_windows_headers.asp
<3> There's all this "Precedent", "Terminer", and "Annuler".
<9> cheers Justin_T
<9> get over it jbatista
<9> =D
<11> hi evry1
<11> pwede ask?
<11> pwede ra ba ka dl ug c++ program?
<11> how can i get a compiler of c++ program?
<12> http://msdn.microsoft.com/vstudio/express/visualc/
<11> tnx
<11> tnx a lot
<11> can i ask again for visual foxpro?
<11> wer ud i dl it?
<11> wer cud i dl it?
<3> clyte: Visual Foxpro is a dirty word.
<11> dirty?
<11> its not
<11> its a program
<3> clyte: Why in God's name would you ever willingly choose to program in FoxPro?
<11> because dats our lesson
<11> and wats wrong?
<3> Is it an elective lesson?
<11> wat do u mean?
<3> I mean, is it an optional course?
<11> yup
<13> clyte: Have you tried googling for "Visual FoxPro download"?
<11> plz can i have d site?
<11> yeah
<11> i cant see anything it only says how u can use d program
<3> clyte: I found the syntax mind-bogglingly awkward and strange.
<11> ok
<3> It's extremely verbose because it attempts to look like English even though it isn't.
<14> jbatista: I don't think clyte cares too much about your views
<11> its english
<3> It maintains an enormous amount of global state, which is like having global variables integrated into the language.
<3> clyte: No, it is not.
<11> and what is it?
<3> Cowmoo: But I do care. I always care.
<11> yeah i know
<3> clyte: It's a computer language.
<14> ya but you're wasting your time
<14> he just wants warez
<11> but i really need it for my ***ingment
<14> or rather, wherever to download that
<11> well ok ill just use the c++ program anyways
<11> can u help me with the codes?
<3> And my final complaint is that this stuff, that is essentially global variables; you use dissimilar Englih-like phrases in order to change the state.
<11> yeah i know
<3> So, if you ever want to search for all references to these, you have to search for various combinations of various of keywords in order to find all of the references.
<11> ok thanks a loty
<3> So, in short, it's a hideous, hideous language that deserves more horse medicine than the original Visual Basic series.
<3> If you use it, you will end up gouging your eyes out like the creepy doctor character from the Event Horizon movie.
<11> lolz
<11> yeah?
<11> wer to find codes for the c++ program?
<3> I give up.
<11> y?
<15> mmm Noidea would be proud... i got an REI catalog in the mail today ;)
<16> man I love this script I just made. amazing the things you take for granted using VC.. I wrote a bash script to detect #include references etc to determine if a file actually needs to be recompiled by comparing file access times, makes everything so much easier
