<0> as i'm sure there were belief systems in place long before civilization reared it's head
<1> aye. then when civ came out, people got addicted and forgot about god
<1> not to mention civ ii! though iii was a bit lacking :/
<0> heh
<1> just need a mac port of IV now
<2> Eh, I liked Civilisation III.
<0> personally, bf2 > civ
<3> its like saying apples > bananas
<1> oh,, civ3 wasn't bad. it just got a bit silly at times
<1> indeed. fps != strategy
<0> you don't know the sweet terrorist satisfaction from suicide bombing a tank of the imperialist invaders!
<1> I play a fair bit of FPS, but it doesn't satisfy the same cravings
<2> Or do we? *shifty eyes*
<1> also, playing FPS online == painful
<0> haha
<0> the dog with the shifty eyes

<0> if by painful you mean sweet pwn
<1> http://www.penny-arcade.com/comic/2004/03/19
<1> is my experience of playing FPSs online against people I don't know
<0> i personally say ****cock whenever i am at liberty to do so
<0> ****cock n00b
<0> that is actually the best theory to date
<0> i'm hungry
<4> 2+3=cats
<0> as i'm leaving my job tomorrow, i need to spend a grand before i leave
<0> i'm thinking a 21" lcd
<4> heh
<1> why?
<0> i get $1000 per 6 months to expense on toys
<4> ...lol
<0> it doesn't cash out when i leave
<4> neat
<1> what about that dell widescreen 24" thingy? I bet you could get that for $1000
<0> well
<1> or, I'll sell you a broken rubics cube for $999.99
<1> and split the cash with you
<4> heh
<0> the wife wants a few things too: new usb hard drive, new computer speakers, and a new wifi card (she broke the antenna off hers)
<4> but then someone will get a penny more
<4> not an even split
<1> we'll toss for it
<1> I'll see how far I can throw him. And when he's stunned, I'll steal it all
<0> pfft
<0> if i had waited a few more weeks, i'd get the full $2k
<0> screw that!
<0> (i mean waiting; this project blows)
<4> heh
<1> where are you going? that security imaging place?
<4> the voyeur shop
<0> yeah
<0> more money, no travel, free soda
<0> i'm there
<0> though, it's really about the same salary
<0> but the base salary is slightly higher
<0> either way, i think it'll be a better fit for me
<5> how much you guys make?
<1> extra wide seating?
<5> trying to guage my ****ty salary
<0> pfft
<1> just walked into that one ;)
<0> i'm thin and ***y
<4> how much is your ****ty salary? heh
<5> $80k/year
<5> but i live in new york city
<0> depends on where you live
<5> so that's like $55k anywhere else
<4> ah
<0> yeah, that's not very good
<5> just wondering where you dudes live and what yo make
<0> you don't live in the city do you?
<5> aww cmon
<5> i live in queens
<4> more than I make, but should be less once some of these guys make job offers
<0> i make low 90's
<1> contracting during breaks from edumacation is unreliable
<5> so i save a slight bit on rent

<0> and live on the outskirts of DC
<4> I make $40k in orlando
<0> so it's pretty good money for the area, can't complain
<5> hmm i would rather make $40k if i got to live in orlando haha
<4> hehe
<5> peterhu, yeah you make good cash
<4> but I expect to make $60-$70k on the next job
<0> the downside is that you live in florida
<6> vawjrwrk, there are unary and binary operators, but some operators are neither unary nor binary
<5> florida certainly is better to live in than the northeast in my opinion
<4> which could possibly be in austin, which is even cheaper to live than orlando
<5> gribouille, yes, they are ternary!
<0> holy lag batman!
<4> if I get the job in LA it might even go above 80k, I think
<0> LA ****s though
<0> go for austin over LA
<5> does it? you live there evere?
<4> im flying there on tuesday, so we'll see heh
<0> austin has a good game company ecosystem
<4> autsin = 3rd in the country
<6> Uckfae, the standard doesn't talks about that
<4> CA = 1st
<4> seattle=2nd
<0> seattle > *
<0> except for the 3 hours of sunlight you get a winter
<4> really?
<4> i didnt know that ;p
<0> it's the reason we moved
<4> the interview i had last week with the company in redmond went really well, and i'm really anxious to get out there
<0> the wife couldn't take the dreary
<7> http://www.compfused.com/directlink/1253/
<5> what company would that be?
<0> the area's great though
<4> that's weird, I thought WA was aroudn the same latitude as NY
<0> some companies, like microsoft, will purchase a UV light for your office if you're diagnosed with SAD
<5> SAD
<4> Uckfae - zipper interactive
<5> i find that acronym humerous
<5> ZIPPER interactive? now that's a dirty joke in the making..
<1> it does work
<0> i've had a former coworker that thought so
<1> but it's like having a small star sitting next to you. it's bloodly blinding, I can't have it on most of the time
<0> as i rarely went outside when it was light in the winter anyway, i didn't think it bothered me at all
<4> heh
<0> the weekends ****ed though
<5> the outside is overrated
<0> the area is fantastic if you like isolation =)
<0> there's nothing but seatle for hundreds and hundreds of miles
<0> portland and tacoma cl***ify as wilderness
<2> Alright... I'm quite a bit confused by a design question. My current pet project is a simple card game, where 4 agents objects (either AI controlled, console based, GUI-based, distant clients adapters, etc.) to a gamemaster object who sends them notifications and requests. My problem comes from possible failures from those agents (Connection dropped, etc.) and how to deal with them.
<0> technically, tacoma cl***ifies as a dump
<4> is there extra sunlight in the summer/
<4> ?
<0> the summer's are fantastic
<5> DrkMatter, well that's up to you.. what is the question? really what policy to impose is up to your tastes, right?
<2> In case an operation fail, I must be able to fall back to the last successful operation, and I end up with a web of while (!successful) and try catch that I am SURe must be hell to maintain.
<5> DrkMatter, those are all implementation details ;)
<0> sun doesn't set until after 9:30, and it doesn't rain much, if at all (which can be pretty bad, one summer we didn't have rain in 41 days)
<0> it's pretty much the only place in the country i'd want to be during the summer
<2> So, basically... Should I try wrapping operations in objects, and make a stack of them? Some kind of Command-oriented pattern?
<5> DrkMatter, hmm i don't fell like answering.. ask someone else.. sorry
<8> http://www.penny-arcade.com/images/2005/20050627l.jpg
<8> ^ (shows how overrated it is) :P
<2> I don't have any exact question, I just need pointers as to where I could look to see some similar problem patterns, and how they are dealt with.
<0> i'm not the one to ask at the moment, as i have a uncontrollable urge to eat tostinos pizza rolls
<4> mmm
<2> Eh, I'll jsut keep trying to figure it out on my own.
<9> Haha khan

<10> io.. :)
<5> DrkMatter, yeah reading other people's code is a good way to get an idea of ways to code it, i think.. good idea.. i am sure there are open source games out ther you can grab and read..
<11> Newtonian physics has changed
<11> it's a good model, but not perfect
