<0> I'll rent Politiki kouzina, "A touch of spice".

<1> gonna dl it
<1> thanks for the advice
<3> exit.s:27: Error: no such instruction: `mov1 $1,%eax'
<3> exit.s:31: Error: no such instruction: `mov1 $0,%ebx
<4> mov1?
<3> why is giving me this error?
<0> movl I gues :_p

<0> Haha
<1> ;)
<3> i'm sorry, just started
<3> that is the example in the tutorial
<4> its MOVL in lower case, as in move long
<4> not move one
<3> ****
<3> thanks a lot lol
<3> apreciate it
<3> exit.s:0: Warning: end of file in comment; newline inserted
<3> and this is?
<0> Bleh, it's a warning, ignore it (??)
<4> you prob eneded the file on a comment without a newline at its end
<3> thanks
<3> that was it lol
<3> another question, i'm on linux x86
<3> what's a good editor?
<4> vim
<3> can i use VI?
<0> You can use whatever you want, vim, vi, emacs, gedit, abiword, etc.
<3> what about Emacs?
<4> i don't know if you can use vi, i can.
<0> Hahaha
<5> I can, too
<4> i only used emacs once for like 5 mins, i didnt like it
<4> it was a long time ago, though
<3> yeah same here lol
<3> just opened it, look around, said **** it
<0> It's about practice.
<4> everyone [at work] was using it, so i gave it a try
<0> I have to use it at univ., but I use vim at home.
<0> seg fault :_p`
<1> pfft
<1> that linsux
<1> winbl0wz ftw!
<4> mac ftw!
<6> Question: Intel 8086 jumps: Should I pad a NOP after a jump (conditional or nonconditional)?
<0> no :_/
<4> marchhare, are you asking if they have delay branches? the answer is no.
<6> Is there a reason I'm seeing this in something I've dis***embled (It seems fairly reasonable)
<4> probably alignment
<6> Yes, I was wondering about delay branches. I wasn't sure, and couldn't find anything specific. As for the alignment, what's a good way to make sure the dis***embler stays aligned? If the dis***embler gets unaligned, and thinks something is a jmp, wouldn't that get me in deeper if I'm using jumps to figure it out?
<4> no, i mean code executes faster if aligned, so you will often see some nops to align instructions in some cases
<6> Oh, ok. Like a nop after a jump.
<4> yeah
<6> That makes sense...
<4> although its usually between functions
<6> My question still applies about the dis***embler itself.
<4> dis***emblers are pretty smart, however, somethings are just impossible for them to do
<4> for example, if you use a runtime computer jump, then the dis***embler cant know about it
<4> thats why ida is interactive
<6> Is IDA free?
<4> no
<6> Is there one that is?
<4> for what os?
<6> Win32
<4> yeah theres, err, proview
<6> And that's free?
<4> yes, but not as good as ida

<4> http://pvdasm.reverse-engineering.net/
<6> Well, seeing as how it's open-source, it's better than IDA
<4> no
<1> open source is gay
<1> utterly gay
<4> the one has nothing to do with the other
<1> i dont have words to describe how gay it is.
<6> Yes, and software that requires my cash is gay.
<1> my fault, i'm sorry
<1> why have power if you cannot abuse it?
<7> there is a free version of IDA though..
<4> yeah i was gonna mention it, but meh
<4> 4.2 or somethin
<1> doesn't matter, if it's not open source, it's not the best =)
<1> that kid never heard of warez before??
<5> Toro
<5> erm..
<5> Were you going to unban him?
<1> oh, forg0rt
<1> forgty*
<1> forgot*
<1> what was his name aagain?
<5> marchhare
<1> ok, gimme a second
<1> x is laggin?
<1> ah
<1> hahhaha
<1> forgot to tyope who to send it to
<1> rofllol
<1> there
<1> i hope nobody is named unban
<1> haha
<1> omg, there is a guy with that name
<1> poor bastard
<1> you know this guy tc?a?
<5> No. But he made a grammatically correct plea.
<5> Have to admire that.
<1> okey
<1> good enough
<6> I'm not real sure why I was kicked, actually.
<5> We're evil bastards.
<1> but if he says again that open source is better than the actual software, i'll ban him again
<5> Fair enough.
<6> I never said anything was better than anything else.
<1> open source is gay. sure you get the read the code, but that is not an excuse not to use a dis***embler!
<1> <6> Well, seeing as how it's open-source, it's better than IDA
<4> eh? opensource is actual software, but it's just a different distribution mechanism
<1> there you did. open source >> better than all features of ida.
<4> making it neither superior nor inferior to software distributed in other ways
<1> tio: yeah i know, but he ***umed open sources was best
<1> so i banned him
<1> :P
<5> Oh, man.. you dissed IDA?
<5> Bad you
<6> Actually, it wasn't a philosophical thing "open-source is better". It was more "I don't have $$$ to shell out for commercial software"
<4> there is a freeware ver of ida i didnt mention
<1> warez my friend, warez.
<5> Be glad rix wasn't here to see that or he would have sent his russian mafia friends after you
<1> you did mention it, tio, but he was gone by then
<6> I didn't dis IDA. I just didn't care to pay for it.
<5> Russians have to eat, too!
<6> I'm sure IDA is decent, just it's more than I can afford.
<4> in terms of dis***emblers, ida is orders of magnitudes greater than anything else
<7> for win32 aye
<4> the dis***embler you happen to be using is worthless entirely, as it doesnt even do flow analysis
<6> I might have to look at it.
<5> Seriously, though.. I don't care either way. Debuggers are for wimps.
<6> I've noticed nasm doesn't do flow anything. I have to put my labels in myself.
<1> tca does it hardcore
<5> I do
