<12> MinceR: If you have a document, and it's properly tagged as UTF8, then it's _certainly_ all jolly and good. But using a machine infected by UTF-8 as the global default, then ssh'ing to a latin-1 machine .. is a disaster.

Until I discovered that UTF-8 was the bad guy, which caused saved files from the previous distro (gnumeric files, btw) - to be unopenable in the next release.
