<0> Element43, window frames 8) <1> I was wondering when those two would leave ;) <2> what were they doing? <2> besides using aol <1> No idea *shakes his head* <1> I think I'm going to complain to AOL again... The service I have been getting recently is really bad... All since they upgraded my line *frowns* Mind you before that I just used Windows to connect rather than AOLs crap cheap nasty software <2> why not just use windows agian <1> I can't... They changed something which means I can't do it any more... I get a "We don't recognise your username or p***word" <2> oh <1> believe me if I could I would... I can't use Virtual Machines any more :( <1> I'm sort of waiting for a moment when I have the cash to get a router and prove that its AOLs problem not mine! <1> hmm... Where'd you all go?
<3> hi all, does any one have any knowlage about 'Layout Engines' like Gecko and Trident <1> What sort of information are you after? <3> i want a Trident-based browsers for linux <1> You won't find one... *looks on Google* Trident is the Engine developed by Microsoft for IE <1> Its a bit like asking for a native WebKit browser for Windows... Thats not happenin either ;) <3> Wyld_Devil: you have pushed the truth to my face, but how to be 100% sure that a site is developed to be seen on Trident-based browsers <1> You don't? ;) <3> is there is no altairnative? <1> Resort to Standards is your only option if you don't have access to a Windows based PC. or just ask a friend to steal theirs? <3> i have a site that works fine on windows and when i use netscape to view it with Trident every thing is ok but in Gecko it 's a mess <1> That happens... I used to get that... Then I started truly developing with Standards (HTML 4.01 Strict/XHTML 1.0 Strict, and CSS) <3> i know i am searching for the impossible dream (microsoft do something for free), is the standard is the solution? <3> like stickint to the W3C rules? <1> Stick to W3Cs rules.. It will get your site working in *most* browsers... Then all you have to do is search for the hacks for IE <3> Wyld_Devil: thanks alot you saved me a lot of time searching for something i will never get now i will go to sleep ;) <1> Oh well *grins* ;) <4> How would I improve http://freeone3000.be:8080/user/signup.php <4> Of course, that's a silly request. You arn't paid support and have no reason to check it out. <5> can someone help with an ajax thing? <5> it's sort of hard to explain, but I have the site up for testing <1> Improve the layout freeone3000 <4> Wyld_Devil: Thank you. I figured that. <1> It just looks.... ..odd.. at the moment <5> freeone3000: maybe use some DHTML to swap out the login and registration. No need to show both <1> berko, sorry I can't help with AJAX, not my thing :( <5> it's cool <5> the basic issue is that when I click for a new call, it keeps the previous call's respon***ML <4> berko: Er. Yeah... How would I do something like javascript hiding of a div? <6> I need to call someone in Florida <6> I've always been getting up too late to call them <6> and I've just realised I can't call them tomorrow morning, since it will be 4 Jul for them! <5> freeone3000: you could do something like onClick ="javascript:document.getElementById('login').style.display = 'block'; this.style.display = 'none';" <4> Er. That makes. SOO little sense. Meh. <5> in translation: when I click on this thing, make the other thing visible and this thing invisible <5> you're just changing the display selector property in order to toggle the visibility <4> Oh. Mmkay. <4> Erg. The buttons don't show up. Meh. I'll just have them both. <5> you could add it to the divs that the forms show up in <4> berko: Oh marvelous. That works great! I swapped a few things. <4> berko: Thanks. <4> Can I have multiple <style> blocks? <4> Nevermind, fixed it. <5> freeone3000: That looks a lot better. Maybe you could have the login form show by default, and then have the button say, "Register" and when you click it, it changes to "Login" so you only have to have one button <7> Please critique my updated design: http://localhost:8090/htdocs/ <7> oops <7> wait <7> http://ausliquor.dnsalias.org:8090/htdocs/ <4> berko: Er. Mmkay. <4> berko: Can I set the onclick property with javascript? <4> berko: If I can that'll avoid some ugly code. <5> you can do it with the onLoad event <2> hello everyone <7> hi Element43 <4> berko: I got the thing showing by default with the onload easy. <4> berko: I'm having trouble with the button name switching, however. <5> hello Element43 <5> couldn't you do this.value = "new value" <4> berko: That would only work once... <5> well, what about if(this.value = 'x'){ this.value = 'y' } else { this.value = 'x'} <4> Ah. That'd work. Thanks.
<4> Works like a charm, except that while the page is loading, both are displayed, and it has to be accessible without javascript to comply to w3c. <5> at http://www.britetexts.net/index.html when the user clicks on a course, the books for that cl*** are supposed to be pulled via an Ajax call from Amazon. But, when I click on the next course, the same books show for that cl*** as well until I click again. Then it reloads. (Note: only the first two courses have asins ***ociated with them.) Also, the div doesn't expand until I click on the course a second time. <5> anyone have any ideas how to make this work better? <2> man I'm awesome <8> phew. sorry for the in-out-in-out folks.. fixing the wireless station at work.. all done now <9> bewest: you there? <2> how goes it hax? <9> it goes <9> i'm about to entertain the scary world of iframes and javascript <9> bewest: i need moral support, come back :) <10> hax: bewest suggested you use iframes and JS ? <9> p0windah: no <9> but bewest has seen uglier <9> actually i have an unrelated question for him <9> but ... #javascript suggested i use iframes and js <9> and its apparently the only answer <10> ic <9> p0windah: i need to do file uploads that dont make you leave the page you're on <9> so... thats the answer <9> and it's a bitch of one too, btw <11> I wouldn't suppose there's a mostly-standard limit to the size of a username? <9> 8 characters. <11> nah I dont fancy being called piratepe ;) <2> lol <9> piratepenguin: hey, weren't you making trouble earlier with that dcc send nonsense? <11> nooooo <11> .. <9> oh, ok <4> What should I use to run a mysql session from a web page? <12> php <9> umm <9> wow <5> freeone3000: I use PHP when I need to access MySQL <9> worst question ever <9> followed promptly by the worst answers ever <9> <3 #web <5> hax: so, what would your brilliant answer be? <4> No. I mean. <4> Interactively and crap. <9> berko: first i'd tell him his question doesnt make sense <9> berko: then i'd wait for him to clarify <4> How would I start a interactive mysql session, as if I was running it from the command line, with the full user login? <9> berko: which he pretty much just did, but his question still doesnt make sense... at which point i ignore him until he fixes it <9> oh, and there's the fix <9> at which point i'd give him an answer <4> With a web-based front-end, that's NOT flash or java. <9> freeone3000: check out 'phpmyadmin' <9> berko: see? <10> hax is a fountain of knowledge :) <4> hax: Other alternatives? <9> p0windah: indeed :) <5> ah, I bow before your brilliance... <9> freeone3000: well, thats the only app i know of that does that... but maybe the better question is, *why* do you want to do that? <9> berko: you can see i spend most of my time here :) <10> hax: I prefer turboadmin <4> hax: Er. Mysql term for people on my hosting site. <4> hax: And the same thing for postgres. <9> freeone3000: have you concerned the idea of giving them terminal access from there location? <5> freeone3000: if you are allowed remote access, you can try something like CocoaMySQL (for OS X) <4> hax: Yes. But these are mostly windows users. <4> hax: They don't know how to work SSH. <9> freeone3000: there's an app mysql.com pimps for solving your problem <9> sec <4> hax: Which is? <9> http://www.mysql.com/products/tools/query-browser/ <9> freeone3000: fyi most companies give phpmyadmin access and remote access <9> freeone3000: the idea is that you set their ip as okay to connect to the server, and then they can use any tool they'd like <9> the one i'm thinking of is called navisomething <4> hax: Awesome. <9> navicat <9> thats it <9> but its non-free
