(Y) <1> yup. <3> Hi crimsun. <0> hi astral <1> i click on it and nothing happens <4> where is the ubuntu equivalent of rc.local ? <5> ubu <0> doesn't exist prior to Dapper. <0> use bootmisc.sh <6> madder: /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh <4> thanks <3> fromvega: That's weird, but I suspect it's got something to do with those backports, of which I don't know anything about. Hopefully someone else can help you on those?
<1> (well there's that white little circle insead of the pointer that seems to be turning for a little while but that's it) <7> AstralJava: could you share your repo list? <1> crimsun: can You help me? <7> AstralJava: I already found one, thank you! <0> psiuku: I don't know, can I? <0> (I don't know what you're referring to) <6> psiuku: does <alt>F2 'xterm' work? <1> heh.. well than - could You? <3> fromvega: Okay good, here's mine anyway. It might have some weird things in it, but it works: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/11175 <4> ok, I'm just gonna writhe the route commands to my bootmisc.sh then. Shoddy workaround, but whatever. <6> psiuku: if so, try running gnome-terminal from there and see if it errors (gtg sry) <7> AstralJava: thank you! <8> guys how do i find a useusing xchat pls <1> bimberi: how to run g-t from xterm? <3> fromvega: No prob. Did you get it working? <9> It says on linux-ntfs.org that write support for ntfs is here. is it really working ok (been away from linux for a while..) <8> /whois smoosh <8> that didnt work <8> :( <3> Kjappfot: It's always not recommended. <0> psiuku: type: gnome-terminal & <8> hellllllpp <10> ping3, describe your prob man <8> how do i fnd a user using xchat <8> find <1> crimsun: the only thing i got was: [1] 11242. what does that mean? <9> AstralJava: I kinda suspected that :-/ Are there any windows tools out there that can convert an ntfs partition to ext3? I'm planning my switch to linux, but I have 300GB on ntfs disks that I don't wanna lose... <11> ping3, you could do /whois user <11> ping3, that will show you every channel that user is in <3> Kjappfot: You can always mount that partition read-only, if you only need to use it, not modify it. <0> psiuku: so...where is the g-t window? <12> does any1 know any offline dictionary ? <13> ping3: why? is it that important to know even though such information can be spoofed? <14> \whois Kjappfot <11> rissem61, other slash :P <14> haha <12> does any1 know any offline english dictionary ? <12> is stardict good enough ? <8> i know the nickname <3> Kjappfot: Converting probably won't succeed, I've never heard of such an attempt. Dual boot not an option? <11> ping3, then do /whois thenicknameyouknow <8> i want to find the user and join the channel <15> whut? <8> when i try whois it doesnt work <16> mephis1987, you can run dictd , it's a dictionary server that you can use locally. Has some nice dictionaries <13> ping3: use /whois <nick> for that <13> what error do you get? <17> hi, people <11> ping3, yes it does, click the window that says freenode ping3 at the bottom <15> ping3: It may not liost the channel the user is on unless _you_ are on it, too. <17> did somebody install MSI TV@anywhere tuner tv ? <12> nickrud, do u know the website ? <9> AstralJava. I guess that's the way to go, but I think Ubuntu will take over my computer in the end anyway, so I'm planning how to slowly squeeze it out :-) <17> MSI @anywhere plus... <16> mephis1987, apt-get (you did say offline) <8> ok got it thanks <17> can somebody help me? <18> Hi ! guys.. <13> cafuego: depending on how the IRCd is configured <18> I am on ubuntu at alast :) <15> hatake_kakashi: well, depends on the channel modes
<1> crimsun: there's none (i don't know if i use the msg correctly) <18> Installing th speedtouch driver was a peace of cake :) <18> Ok ! now i need help. <9> is anyone here using truecrypt? <13> cafuego: and inherently more so the IRCd for that sort of support :) <18> By default ubuntu booted me into gnome ! but i need to use kubuntu .. so help ! <3> |lostbyte|: You could 'apt-get install kubuntu-desktop'. <3> |lostbyte|: Then at login screen, choose the right option. <18> AstralJava, Reading package lists... Done <18> Building dependency tree... Done <18> E: Couldn't find package kubuntu-desktop <18> AstralJava, ^ ? <19> :s <20> Seveas: bored? <21> can anyone kindly advise the best way to get an installed programme to appear in the programmes list? <20> lkdfre: use the menu editor? <22> ardchoille, testing Ubugtus ban tracker <3> |lostbyte|: I have no idea why it says so, it should be in main. <20> Seveas: ah <23> okay <23> so I put psmouse into /etc/hotplugs/blacklist <3> |lostbyte|: Which version are you running? <23> and it did absolutely nothing <23> (as far as I can tell <23> ) <18> AstralJava, LAtest. <18> just downloaded yesterday. <21> ardchille sounds good, i'll check for it <23> I used rmmod psmouse to disable my synaptic touchpad <23> and someone here told me that if I put it in blacklist, it wouldn't start up again <23> but it did <23> any ideas how to fix this? <20> lkdfre: Applications -> System Tools -> Applications Menu Editor <3> |lostbyte|: Dapper? <21> ta <23> other than running rmmod psmouse everytime I boot? <24> Hi i've been using ubuntu for a week or so now and i've got a few wee questions, here goes... <20> lkdfre: yw :) <18> AstralJava, how do i check ? <3> |lostbyte|: lsb_release -a <24> firstly samba: i set samba up and it works really well but i have onlyhad to login on the windows side once and can't work out how to logout, how is it done? <18> Description: Ubuntu (The Breezy Badger Release) <25> ghost_: you dont really "log out" of samba <26> Hello... I've just installed the ubuntu into my computer and I've some musics. I was wondering how did I put my musics on ubuntu ? <25> !restricted <27> well, restricted is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats Most of the formats listed here can be replaced by !FreeFormats <26> observation... they are in windows XP <25> athayde: read what ubotu said <24> okay but i'm a little paranoid about having my windows machine with a connection through to the linux box. should i be? <25> athayde: then you need to mount your windows partition in ubuntu <3> |lostbyte|: I don't know why it says so, maybe you have something wrong in your apt-get configuration. Does other packages install fine if you use apt-get? <25> ghost_: eh, that depends. are you afraid someone will sit down at your machine and start deleting files? <26> kingspawn okay, I know that. But, how did I do that ? <25> athayde: well, do you know which /dev/hdxx your partition is? <18> AstralJava, i didt setup source yet. does that matter. <26> No <24> no not really, ach it probably is just paranoia then... <24> okay next thing is sudo <18> AstralJava, give me a app name to try ? <24> sometimes i want to use root in the GUI like to quickly change a permission <3> |lostbyte|: So you only have the install cdrom in your sources.list? That might explain it, if kubuntu-desktop isn't on that cd. <24> but i can;t see a way ofd doing it <24> i tried enableing login to GDM as root <18> AstralJava, yup ! only the install cdrom. <18> AstralJava, k ! <25> ghost_: well, you could use gksudo to start a gui program with root permissions <24> and then trying to login again as u=root p=myp*** but no joy <28> I'm looking for a gnome panel applet that brings up a menu of the filesystem--i'm pretty sure KDE has one. Anyone know of an alternative? <25> ghost_: you would need to enable the root p***word to log into gnome as root <18> AstralJava, so what next ? <24> oh... <29> I'm on myspace with FF1.5 and everything seems to work when I go to add music... but there is no ADD button like there should be. Flash is installed... I don't what it needs, is there somewhere where I can 'deck it out' with all the plugins? <3> |lostbyte|: So then you need to uncomment the # in front of the rows that allow adding other repositories. After that, apt-get update will make them available. Then you should be able to install kubuntu-desktop.
