<0> cyne not yet
<1> ok
<0> thnx aylov
<2> i enabled bash completion in /etc/bash.bashrc, now if i type "set" on the command line, the output shows all the functions used by bash_completion. is it normal?
<1> can ubuntu run on my laptop and recognise all my ports?
<3> cyne, June 1st is the release date.
<0> claes is beta will be similar to dapper drake?
<3> cyne, Depends on the laptop and what ports it has.
<1> claes, hmmm ok
<4> ...is it out yet?
<4> dapper
<1> claes, it is an older laptop, so not much hope eh? :(
<2> !set
<5> No idea, try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, feg
<3> UbuntuBes, Yes the most apps will be the same as today. But some will probably be upgraded before thursday.
<2> !bash_completion

<5> feg: Do they come in packets of five. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<3> cyne, More hope then if it is to new.
<1> claes, i see...
<3> UbuntuBes, Dapper will be the first ubuntu release to support aptitude upgrade from ready installed systems. Earlier the support way to upgrade was to "reinstall".
<1> claes, i suppose the only way to know is to grab it and 'give it a go'
<0> can some body point me to right direction on how to setup a networking for my school. is it ISP->ADSL Modem->Router->Switch->server and all pcs
<3> cyne, Yeah. :-)
<1> :)
<3> UbuntuBes, I would do it with: ISP -> ADSL router -> firewall -> switch -> servers and workstations.
<3> UbuntuBes, And perhaps a third leg on the firewall with dmz.
<0> but our school only have 1 server which is hp proliant and no firewall, do u have any idea beside that?
<3> UbuntuBes, Throw in a second nic in the proliant and install ubuntu on it. Then it can act booth as a server and a fw.
<0> claes thats what I thought
<0> but do i have to install firewall program inside it?
<0> claes is squid that you meant?
<3> UbuntuBes, The firewall functions in linux is in the kernel but you need user-mode tools to configure it. You could write your own scripts using iptables or there are some tools that do it for you.
<6> go and I got nothing
<6> sorry ignore that
<0> claes i'm not that expert, thing that i now is to install ubuntu only
<6> does anyone know how to work out what the GAL is for a Exchange Server?
<0> claes user-mode tools mean i have to install GUI first??
<3> UbuntuBes, Then you should need to test it abit before going live with the system. A rather powerful but yet simple way to handle firewall scripts is with this: http://firehol.sf.net
<7> hello. does anyone know if I need nvidia-kernel if my toshiba has an integrated intel video card?
<8> Is there any way to make the icons on my desktop automatically align to the right instead of the left hand side?
<9> hi
<3> netmonk, check the output of: sudo lspvi
<10> netmonk, you don't
<6> Jimmy, the simple way is to just drag them to the other side
<3> netmonk, And nvidia is for nvidia cards if it's an intel card I doubt it.
<6> make that jimmy__
<8> hugh__, but then when I align the icons, the shift back to the lef
<11> Does anybody here run a dual core CPU?
<0> claes ok thanx for the tips and i appreciate that
<8> skip, you need the SMP kernel...If that's your question
<7> claes, i get "command not found"
<3> UbuntuBes, And it's packages in ubuntu too.
<6> jimmy__, as in 'keep aligned'
<6> or cleanup by name
<0> ok
<8> hugh__, clean up by name
<0> thank everybody
<3> netmonk, Sorry slip of fingers it should read: sudo lspci
<9> I need help, i'm try login root, but i don't has sucess
<11> Jimmey__: nope, I was just wanting to know if there is much support for, and much advantage, to using a dual under Linux
<12> is there any risk in using ubuntu in correlation with all my ntfs-disks?
<0> c u next time
<7> claes, :) it's all intel
<8> skip, yeah
<6> Jimmy__, hum I can't think of a way but I think I will look into it becuase all my icons just moved to the other side of the desktop when I tried the command
<3> netmonk, Then you don't need any nvidia crap.
<8> ToreSkog, you can't write to NTFS, but there's no risk
<13> will there be a NON graphical installer for dapper?
<7> claes, thanks :)
<11> Jimmey__: in other words, is it worth paying the bit extra for a dual?
<3> netmonk, Glad I could help.
<8> skip, I mean that Linux can get as much out of a dual as any other operating system
<12> hehe you can't write to ntfs kind of says it all, if I cann't write, how could I **** something up :-P
<8> If you want a dual, you should get one ;)
<3> skip, I would do that. Even I have done that but I have not gotten the machine yet.
<14> hey. does anybody else have a problem with the time when they dual boot ubuntu and xp? once ubuntu is installed, XP ends up being an hour slow, but is fine just before the ubuntu install. its happened on a couple of machines now.
<11> Jimmey, ok then

<13> will there be a NON graphical installer for dapper?
<8> exhale, yes
<8> It's the text mode install CD
<13> Jimmey__, is it already includeded in the RC?
<8> exhale, yeah
<13> i tried the RC and it said that the x server couldnt start
<13> i couldnt even enter the install
<6> d2812, It does seem to slow XP load times down, but hey, when do you need to use XP when you have Linux ;)
<3> d2812, Yes. The problem is that linux sets the bios clock to utc and windows thinks the bios clock is local time.
<11> apart from using the SMP kernel, are there any other major differences when installing & maintaining a dual core machine in Linux?
<15> d2812: you can configure Ubuntu to behave like windows, in fact the installer asks you about this, iirc.
<13> wait.. so dapper install program is the same as breezy's?
<3> skip, nope. that's it. And the default i686 kernel in dapper is smp. :-)
<16> Yes, installer asks if clock is set to local time or utc
<11> claes, cool, I think you've convinced me!
<14> okay, thanks guys - just good to know im not being dumb :) must of missed that in the installer - oh well
<17> hello
<17> someone speak french ?
<18> !fe
<5> bert_: Do they come in packets of five. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/

<6> d2812, I have one of my computers set to local time and Windows still takes ages to load
<16> oiu
<18> !fr
<5> Allez a #ubuntu-fr ou #kubuntu-fr pour de l'aide et de la discussion en francais.
<16> salut
<17> salut
<3> skip, If it's a workstation you might wait to get the new cpu with support for virtualization in them. Then you can run any os in xen. Way cool!
<17> bha eu
<16> Boulzor: OK thats all i remember from high school lol
<17> ?
<14> hugh, calaes : is there any way of changing it to local time now?
<3> skip, But not sure if it will be awailable for laptops.
<17> ouais bon
<11> claes, actually I'm about to buy a new notebook and can't decide what to get
<17> jarrive pas a modif un fichier dans etc/hosts
<17> c un fichier en lecture seul
<17> et jcroi qui faut les droit root
<3> skip, I went with a macbook. Not foor running macos x but it was the cheapest one with dual core cpu.

<17> lool
<17> dan linstall d'ubuntu bai y mon pa dmander pour etre root ou koi
<17> g pa du tapper dp*** rien du tout
<6> d2812, goto admin, then time and date
<11> claes, I'd prefer to go with an Intel machine because I also need to run XP (unfortunately)
<17> alors now ch pa accd au fichier config
<19> goodnight all
<6> d2812, make that 'time and date settings'
<17> DarkTower, t tjrs la ?
<3> skip, the new macbook is with an intel dual core cpu.
<20> Boulzor, #ubuntu-fr
<16> Boulzor: Je ne comprend pas
<17> ok jvai voir le channel
<17> bha si tu veu
<16> Boulzor: sorry dude im not really french
<14> hugh_ : utc is deselected.
<17> ok DarkTower
<11> cleas, sorry, pardon my ignorance. I'd still prefer to go non-Mac
<17> thank you kan mme
<6> then it should work fine
<8> skip, why a notebook?
<16> skip: Mac don't use a different architecture anymore, its a dual core pentium
<6> d2812, it may just be that Windows has some trouble when there is another OS
<14> thanks hugh_ :)
<3> skip, No problem. If thinkpads where cheaper I would go with that. I love the thinkpad I have now. But it's starting to get old.
<21> after latest dapper upgrade, I cannot run oowriter anymore! It is a known bug?
<17> dark, tu parle pa francais ?
<17> DarkTower, ?
<6> Is there much Linux Support for Tablets?
<11> claes, because I need portability. I had a T32 years ago and badly want another Thinkpad but don't know if I can justify it.
<16> Boulzor: non
