<3> stocksy: no it's just littering my hd with posting this question twice a second... <2> tonyyarusso, aaaaaugh <7> anyone know how to change your localhost.localdomain name? <9> wd3, tonyyarusso Opera ships with it's own icons <8> Madpilot: I didn't see 'em. Care to enlighten me? <9> tonyyarusso, /usr/X11R6/include/X11/bitmaps/opera.xpm <9> tonyyarusso, I think there are more around, that's just the first one I found when I installed opera <0> brammator, you need the group if you expect multiple users to need sudo rights. But yes, on one machine, I explicitly added the user. Don't put '$user' literally in /etc/sudoers <1> lsilZha: sorry, but I've not seen that before <1> does anyone else know? <3> stocksy: my remaining space reaches 1 gb... is there a way to clear up what was wrote to tty4 so far? <2> tonyyarusso, when i edit the menu which file is the exec? <6> timfrost yeah, thanks. <2> Madpilot, thanks same question. <9> wd3, for opera, just put "opera" in the command spot <1> lsilZha: sorry dude, I don't know <8> Madpilot: Well I'll be... <2> Madpilot, was it there? <8> Madpilot: I wonder why I didn't think to look there...oh, right, b/c no other icons are stored there. Heh. <9> wd3, you don't need to put the full string (subdirectories & such), just the name of the app <10> GOD ****ING DAMNIT <10> WHY WONT THIS **** WORK <11> !caps <12> FYI, typing in ALL CAPS is considered to be 'yelling', and therefore rude behaviour. <3> anybody got an idea? i'm running short of time.... <13> hah, calm down petal :) <14> in an hour and a 1/2 <2> tonyyarusso, Madpilot , do i always have to do this when installing apps, darn it <10> ... <8> wd3: No. <9> wd3, not always, most will put themselves into the menus <13> Shadowpillar: the coc, mumble the coc to yourself.. <8> wd3: I've only done maybe one other besides Opera. <10> instead of kicking me and spamming me with bots, can I please get some help with samba? <7> I added my.name where localhost.localdomain was....help!! <2> tonyyarusso, so u use opera? <10> it's a strange error I get every time I start samba <1> lsilZha: in the absence of other ideas, maybe just terminate the install and restart it? <10> causes the server to die <9> Shadowpillar, instead of using caps & swearing, how about asking an actual question? <10> ..I just did <8> wd3: Sometimes. I vary. FF1.07, FF1.5, Opera, Konqueror, links2, w3m, elinks, Dillo, Amaya, and a few others. <10> instead of kicking me and spamming me with bots, can I please get some help with samba? <10> er <15> is there a list of packages you can install using apt-get? i want to find out what i've been missing out on <10> whoops <11> Shadowpillar: so why don't you tell us where did you paste your smb.conf? pastebin.com? paste.ubuntu-nl.org? <16> redguy: thats true.. i have a ups though.. its somthing to consider if you dont thats for sure <11> Shadowpillar: and no, nobody is spamming you with bots <10> redguy: I know it's not an error with smb.conf <2> tonyyarusso, ive been trying to install ff 1.5 for weeks, still unsuccsful. i just installed opera and man it's fast... <9> Hexidigital, you can search in Synaptic, or use packages.ubuntu.com <10> [2006/03/29 01:00:20, 1] auth/auth_util.c:make_server_info_sam(840) <10> User Default in p***db, but getpwnam() fails! <15> thanks madpilot <17> Hexidigital: if you're using X, you can go through synaptic, there's a webpage with them, if youre using a terminal you can use aptitude, I don't recommend using apt directly though. <10> thing is, there is no user default in samba's config file at all <1> any powerpc users here that can help me with my kernel problem? <3> stocksy: the problem is that he runs this automatically. it would give me more time... but it wouldn't solve the problem
<10> and where is the samba p*** db? <9> tonyyarusso, just FYI, /usr/share/opera/images also has a whole bunch of Opera icons <8> wd3: Definitely takes the cake for fast. My thing for Firefox is that I'm a bit of an extension, um, hogger, so I still use that primarily. Recommended Opera for people that just want fast and stable in my blog post yesterday though. <18> has anyone ever seen this before: I'm using the network for either ftp or ssh, and all of a sudden the network stops working. It says that the eth0 interface is still active, but it clearly does not work. All I have to do is deactivate then activate it again and it starts it right back up. The problem does not occur everytime i use ftp or ssh though or in the exact same places. <8> wd3: I hope you've seen the wiki for your 1.5 troubles? <1> does 2.6.12-10 even support old world openfirmware? <8> Madpilot: I must be blind. Oh well. <9> tonyyarusso, <grin> amazing what Places->Search Files can find for you <7> anyone good with using ubunut as a server? <8> Madpilot: I guess. <7> *ubuntu even* <1> GTroy: that's a pretty broad question <1> what kind? <2> tonyyarusso, yes but still man it's rough. i'll stick with opera for now. ok so first i have to go to panel and put a installer there with opera in the command line right? then choose an icon for it and voila? <3> stocksy: i got to go anyway... thanks for trying to help me out <1> lsilZha: sorry I couldn't help more <8> wd3: Launcher, not installer. But otherwise, yeah. <7> stocksy: I installed apache2 mysql-server php5 php5-gd php5-mysql and id3v2 <2> tonyyarusso, ok u helped me again. <2> Madpilot, u too. <7> and when it asked for localhost.localdomain I used 'my.name' <9> wd3, no problem <8> wd3: You can add it to the panel, menu, or both, btw. Right-click the little Ubuntu icon next to "Applications" to edit the menu. <19> hi ! <2> tonyyarusso, oh ok. <7> stocksy: maybe you can help me figure out what/how to fix that <19> I need some help : i need to set en environment variable before X starts <19> anyone got an idea ? <1> GTroy: is it complaining that my.name doesn't resolve? <7> I get 404 error <20> /etc/hostname <20> i guess :o <20> remember to edit /etc/hosts after or before editing /etc/hostname <1> GTroy: which package asked for a hostname? <7> I don't know it went into a graphical interface <2> tonyyarusso, where it says command put "opera"? <8> wd3: Correct. <2> tonyyarusso, ok <11> Shadowpillar: where the p*** db depends on the p***word backend which is specified in your smb.conf <11> s/p*** db/ p*** db is/ <7> stocksy: any ideas what I should do? maybe reset the hostname? <1> GTroy: I was thinking more along the lines of reconfiguring the package you installed to use the localhost.localdomain hostname for the time being <10> redguy: p***db backend = tdbsam guest <7> stocksy: I tried to reinstall them with no luck <1> GTroy: did you use dpkg-reconfigure? <21> in ubuntu/linux where are my usb devices? (/dev/?) <7> stocksy: all of the packages? <7> but to answer your question no <22> http://www.rauotehuia.co.nz/Screenshot.png <1> GTroy: i don't know which package asked for the hostname, but $ sudo dpkg-reconfigure <package> will step you through the configuration again for each package <1> maybe this will help <7> stocksy: ok, what should I use as localhost.localdomain? <1> GTroy: leave it as localhost.localdomain for now <7> ok cool <23> what FTP server do you suggest me to install ? <11> Shadowpillar: more info needed: did you install samba from the repos? are you running breezy? <10> redguy: yes <2> tonyyarusso, everything went well except this on exectution...http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/11036 <10> redguy: thing is, the errors here dont reflect the settings in smb.conf <10> at all <10> and they were working <24> How do I change the name of a disk? <10> also, no instances of samba are running <10> or nmbd <25> gilianima: vsftpd is in the ubuntu main repository (hence it gets security updates from the core ubumt devs) <11> Shadowpillar: it would really help me if you pasted testparm -s output into the pastebin <8> wd3: Taking a look... <11> Shadowpillar: no, they are not working if you can't run samba <10> redguy: they were before <10> see, samba was running <11> Shadowpillar: and? <10> then it decided to stop and kept giving that reason <10> and even uninstalled, did a clear wipe, and redid the config again, I even backtraced what I did
