<psusi> if you're just playing solitare, then no, it isn't going to help
<gamma> anyone get ndiswrapper-modules-1.8 installed on dapper? i'm getting this msg when trying to install "Package ndiswrapper-modules-1.8 is not available, but is referred to by another package."
<Amaranth> psusi: how come apple didn't use it for video encoding then?
<psusi> Amaranth, because they are silly?
<fdr> psusi, if I think that I used doing sw development on my old 386.... :-)
<psusi> Amaranth, you mean in those new intel based macs?

<MacSlow> saerdna, "in thought" rather I would guess
<_jason> frodrigu: one sec, I usually use mplayer. let me try vlc
<Amaranth> saerdna: no
<Amaranth> saerdna: no one has given them a reason why sticking with 2.x is bad
<percent20> How can I test to see if my 3d is working?
<_jason> percent20: glxgears
<saerdna> ok if they begin on gnome 3 it will be finished in 4+ years then :P
<percent20> yeah something is wrong with it
<Amaranth> saerdna: everyone just wants to use gnome 3 to get rid of all their old APIs and such, but why?
<percent20> it renturs an error of being disconected from xserver
<Amaranth> saerdna: what do you want from GNOME that can't be done with 2.x?
<saerdna> Amaranth: i cant come up with something , i was just reading their roadmap
<Amaranth> saerdna: btw, kde 4 hasn't been in development for 4+ years
<Amaranth> saerdna: what roadmap?
<saerdna> http://live.gnome.org/RoadMap
<gomme> salut
<frodrigu> _jason and Ace2005 ok, it works on vlc...last question
<frodrigu> _jason and Ace2005 how do you make it pop up my default, instead of xine popping up by default?
<Amaranth> saerdna: that doesn't really say much about gnome 3
<saerdna> Amaranth: follow the links etc
<Amaranth> saerdna: except that a couple of people have started an unofficial concept of what gnome 3 should be
<saerdna> Amaranth: whats kde 4? a rewrite of kde3?
<Amaranth> saerdna: more or less, yeah
<saerdna> Amaranth: i didnt that page said anything else
<_jason> frodrigu: probably that gconf command on the page you linked me to

<TokenBad> ok a friend woke up this morning to his screen flashing text...anything he did was unresponsive I ***ume except turning the machine off...he took a picture of the screen...and to me it looks like from the text that his kernal got messed up..if that is the case is there a way to fix it? and can anyone else look at the url to the img to see if I am right on my ***umption of it being the kernal?
<Goshawk_> jehu, apt-get install build-essential
<MeeKs> in device manager it will see the device but no connection exists
<sethk> TokenBad, if something got messed up, it is the running kernel in memory, which went away when you turned the machine off
<sethk> TokenBad, so there was no way to get it when it was on, and there is no way now
<Noobhelp> LjL how can i use md5sum .. to se if my iso is good.. or what i have to do whit it ?
<_jason> ubotu: tell Noobhelp about verify
<sethk> TokenBad, you can use md5sum on the kernel binary and on a known good image, but the odds of the kernel on disk being bad are extremely low
<LjL> Noobhelp: well, type "md5sum filename.iso" and check if the signature is the same as the one in the MD5SUMS files. if you can't access a linux console, i guess you'll have to do this on Windows, and download md5sum for Windows somewhere
