<arnducky> persia, never even had a hiccup with DMA channels in Woody, Sarge or Etch and hdparm certainly never returned IO errors
<miriam> hi! i am searching an xhtml irc roo, can someone help me, please?
<Nameeater> gnomefreak: he already has mplayer?!
<miriam> irc room
<gyro_54> Lets install the Mozilla-mplayer plugin- That might fix the problem.
<gyro_54> Thanks everyone for your help.
<Nameeater> works?
<ubuntu_> àà
<gnomefreak> for some reason i thought that plug in was called mplugger :(
<Nameeater> :/
<gnomefreak> it is mozplugger :)
<arnducky> persia, ahhh, do. I've been pretty light on wiki for Dapper --been ***uming devel doesn't have much, only been looking on the . Found it great for Breezy -- thanks.
<jebus> how can i wipe the drive from windows or bios or anything?
<saerdna> why is ubuntu.com down ?
<jebus> dunno
<Nameeater> ahh is too
<gnomefreak> they are prolly updating server or issues with server
<arnducky> Wooah, I can't load any www.ubuntu.com page at all, although I can load wiki.unbuntu.com Can everyone else load it?
<saerdna> arnducky: just the wiki
<gnomefreak> jebus: format c used to work but i dont think you can be using it :(
<DRAGON_Ultra> its down for a while
<arnducky> DRAGON_Ultra, 'for a while'? This was planned server maintenance?
<DRAGON_Ultra> well its still is down thats all I said
<knubbe> is there a gui (or tutorial somewhere) to set up TV-out on other video cards than nvidia? (i have intel media accellerator i915)
<arnducky> pesia, I was going to say... I've only been looking on launchpad so far. Links still seem to point to Breezy docs, but it's time I did some deeper digging.
<persia> arnducky: The Breezy docs are the latest. The wiki has a lot of info that should apply to Breezy plus upgrades, but Dapper is completely unsupported until it is complete.
<arnducky> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DMA?highlight=%28DMA%29
<chmod775> !kde
<ubotu> from memory, kde is A powerful, free desktop environment for UNIX. IRC: #kubuntu #kde ; install from Ubuntu: sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop ; ISOs: http://releases.ubuntu.com/kubuntu/breezy/
<arnducky> Same aulde page, which I've tried to no avail (and I do have the Via chipset mentioned in the page... =(
<linux_galore> just poking around video.google.com and found a short video with these guys in pengiun suites invading a Microsoft convention and handing out ubuntu cd's
<linux_galore> http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-5336561617389993359&q=linux
<jebus> iv gotta program that should hopefully completly wipe the hd
<arnducky> persia, do they have 'beta' docs somehwere (i.e so they can roll out docs in April together with the stable release)?
<arnducky> maybe I could even contribute -- I'm not that cluefull, but I can do technical writing with some of the best, once a coder has actually solved a problem
<Frogzoo> jebus: you can wipe a hard drive using the live cd pretty easily
<persia> arnducky: There may be beta docs in CVS, but I doubt they are much upgraded at this point. If it's not working, you can report a bug, or reinstall. If you're willing to comb the rest of the net and hack a solution or some docs, I'm sure they would be grateful. There's mailing list archives from https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-doc/ that would tell you where they are in process, etc.
<jebus> i dont have the live cd
<jebus> dont know where to get it as the site is down
<cantona> :/tmp$ banshee
<cantona>
<cantona> Unhandled Exception: DBus.DBu***ception: Unable to determine the address of the message bus
<cantona> why>
<arnducky> Hey -- I'm watching that 'M$ conference trolling video -- sound is working (so far)! maybe they patched /dev/dsp or something with the last dist-upgrade !! (we'll see)

<Nameeater> bluefish

<xnull-> how do i install mplayer?
<jebus> this take too long
<lidia> emm....
<jebus> suppose i am impatient sometim,e
<jono> hi all, how can I blacklist a PCI card so that kernel modules are not loaded for it
<jebus> s
<xnull-> ?
<lidia> hi...
<persia> xnull-: enable the multiverse repository, and run `sudo aptitude install mplayer`. If you/msg ubotu, you can ask about repositories.
<lidia> ufff....
<Eds> !firestarter
<ubotu> Ubuntu has, like every other linux distribution, firewalling built into the kernel. A simple frontend to this firewall is firestarter, which can be installed via synaptic.
<lidia> mmm...
<persia> Eds: You'd probably get more information from /usr/share/doc/firestarter (disclaimer: I have never used firestarter).
<xnull-> persia: do i got "multiverse repository" in sources.list?
<persia> xnull-: Try `cat /etc/apt/sources.list` to find out. If the line starts with #, it is disabled.
<xnull-> ok
<xnull-> after installing mplayer do I need some codecs?
<persia> xnull-: Ask ubotu about restrictedformats for some links to information about downloading the codecs.
<Talisker> anyine here using ncftp?
<Eds> So what do you guys use for a firewall?
<C-O-L-T> does exists any skins for open office other gui;s?
<licb> any body here?
<IcedZephyr>
<Eds> !firewall
<ubotu> Ubuntu has, like every other linux distribution, firewalling built into the kernel. A simple frontend to this firewall is firestarter, which can be installed via synaptic.
<licb> -ýº(

<AMDXP> really how did you type that in chinese
<inzanez> hi. I installed ubuntu 5.10, now...I hear sound when logging in, with vlc,... but gaim or skype do not sound...:/ what could this be?
<AMDXP> inzanez, check the gaim settings???
<licb> I installed SCIM,it's a chinese input method
<inzanez> did, had them on automatic, esd and arts
<inzanez> arts is installed as well as alsa, alsa-oss simulation too.
<inzanez> the soundmodule is loaded as well.
<AMDXP> wow ok inzanez
<persia> inzanez: Installing libesd-alsa0 may help
<licb> I think you can find it in www.ubuntu.com.cn
<inzanez> persia: will try it right now :)
<persia> Eds: As I said before, I'm unfamiliar with that software, but you may want to be sure you are running it with sudo, as the grey button may indicate a lack of permission.
<inzanez> Hm, still no sound.
<inzanez> Only console beep works, but...:) that's not really nice ;)
<Frogzoo> inzanez: have you tried system -> prefs -> multimedia selector = OSS?
<saerdna> what to apt-get to get make?
<saerdna> build-essentials ?
<Frogzoo> !buildessential
<ubotu> NO SPEAKE ENLISH!, Frogzoo
<peter84> I c
<Frogzoo> !build-essential
<ubotu> build-essential is, like, totally, a meta package for software building see !gcc for more info
<kalve> apt-get install make :p
<cY> lo
<kbrooks> saerdna, build-essential
<inzanez> Frogzoo: No, not yet
<kbrooks> !gcc
<ubotu> well, gcc is the GNU project C and C++ compiler. From the command-line, type "man gcc" for a complete manual on gcc. You can install gcc with 'sudo apt-get install build-essential'
<Frogzoo> inzanez: set your output to OSS & x fingers...
