<enot> does mp3 support cut off by default?
<Mar_k_us> what do i do with the sfark executible for linux
<owner> with fgl_glxgears that is pretty good
<Mar_k_us> i want to use it to unpack a sfark file
<nickrud> enot, could you rephrase that?
<enot> it seems i can't play mp3
<omac> dcx90805: from the menu->system->admin->synaptic....click search....dvdrip....apply. you might need to add a repository it has "marillat" in its name. google and you will find it.
<nickrud> !tell enot about restricted
<Vinadelmar> xmms-mp3, enot
<dcx90805> how do you install software that you download from other sites that end with (.bin)????
<cafuego> Zorlon: http://www.cafuego.net/ubuntu
<owner> mcdenyer thats 2500 frames right
<cafuego> Zorlon: You'll also need libgtk2.0-dev
<Xenguy> Sapaki: or if you prefer a GUI approach...
<mcdenyer> owner, flg_glxgears?
<Xenguy> !tell Sapaki about install
<nickrud> enot, that message from ubotu should help
<owner> fgl_glxgears
<mcdenyer> owner, yeah
<Zorlon> cafuego: K thanks I will grab it off the irc chat here...
<tuxedo_kamen> can anyone please help me install a usb modem?
<Sapaki> no that is fine
<Mar_k_us> i can't seem to find any info about installing the sfark utility
<enot> thanks
<mcdenyer> owner, i just did glxgears not fgl_glxgears
<r0bby> are ubuntu repositories having issues?
<r0bby> Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/g/gdm/gdm_2.13.0.5-0ubuntu3_i386.deb 404 Not Found
<r0bby> ?
<nickrud> r0bby, if you're using us, they often do
<Xenguy> Sapaki: n/m that last link
<berto-> hi everyone. i'm trying to rebuild the package psycopg for python-2.3, but the package is configured to build for all versions of python. is there a flag to dpkg-buildpackage to build just the python-2.3 version?
<r0bby> any chance they'll be fixed?
<owner> thats still pretty good mcdenyer
<nickrud> r0bby, just remove the us. on each line in /etc/apt/sources.list
<cafuego> r0bby: Just use another mirror.
<owner> all ati users get crappy scores
<r0bby> list of mirrors?
<omac> dcx90805: if its a .bin....it not a .deb which means it's risky and it might have viruses. You're best to stick to web sites that offer the sources and the binaries as a tar.gz. Going back to your question: chmod u+rwx file.bin; ./file.bin
<cafuego> !info beagle dapper

<trkorecky> I just downloaded a new Gnome theme, Tenebrific, and would like to know how to install it. Can anyone help?
<mcdenyer> owner, with flg_glx gears i get about 500 :/
<cafuego> trkorecky: Open the theme dialog, click 'The eDetails'. Then drop the tarball on the window.
<thingfish> trkorecky: what's the filename you downloaded?
<thingfish> or do what cafuego said. :)
<mcdenyer> owner, and the cube keeps like freezing
<owner> lower score is normal with fgl_glxgears
<owner> i get lower score too
<cafuego> trkorecky: That will automagically install it to ~/.themes
<thingfish> misfit_toy: you watching?
<trkorecky> cafuego: Thank you very much!
<cafuego> trkorecky: No prob. You can drop icon themes and mosue cursor themes there too.
<trkorecky> cafuego: I downloaded a new splash screen, can I just drag that there?
<Zorlon> cafuego: Is there a specific order I need to install the .debs?
<funbitz> I'm new to linux in general, and i wonder: do i really need to install an antivirus, or there's something incorporated in ubuntu?
<Vinadelmar> next step : configuring adsl connection. ever heard about serious issue ? or does ubuntu handle that nicely ?
<owner> funbitz you can intall clamav
<cafuego> trkorecky: No, you need to do *that* via the GDM Prefernces. System -> Admin -> Login Window
<owner> install
<Zorlon> funbitz: Not too much need for one
<sirgrim> hello, just installed 2.6.15 kernel and got a few questions, using Ubuntu, after install my ubuntu boot screen doesn't display, the progress bar one

<odat> anyone know how to configure alsa in ubuntu?
<owner> alsamixer
<funbitz> :) ok, thanks... i think not too many people are wasting time building unix viruses :)
<cafuego> odat: If it doesn't locate the cards automagically, file a bug.
<TorbX> Hey, thinking of this thing: http://sremington.zapto.org/gdesklets/index.html It says: "Download: You can download the sensor and display here. " What do they mean? Cant I get sensor and display by apt-get?
<owner> thats true funbitz
<odat> hmmmm the only time i have been able to get this sound card working is under slackware
<mcdenyer> owner, like right now im installing a w32 codec that is .i386
<cafuego> r0bby: XX.archive.ubuntu.com where XX is any country code.
<funbitz> how about firewalls?
<mwe> funbitz: and people who do have a much harder time than in windows
<sirgrim> i always have luck w/ slackware for sound
<trkorecky> cafuego: Thanks again!
<mcdenyer> owner, will it still work ev en though i have 686?
<owner> yes mcdenyer
<cafuego> mcdenyer: Your 686 is still an i386 ARCH machine.
<trkorecky> cafuego: Where did it install the theme to? I would like to change the wallpaper to the one included with the theme, but I cannot find it
<owner> besides 686 is backwards compatible
<Zorlon> cafuego: K thanks
<owner> thats why you can still install dos probably
<cafuego> trkorecky: The theme is in ~/.themes

<varsendagger> odat, really
<cafuego> wakey wakey!
<funbitz> is there some need for a firewall software?
<r0bby> but that's using us mirrors
<varsendagger> odat, i am really sorry aobut that
<cafuego> funbitz: Not normally, no.
<varsendagger> i apologize
<mwe> funbitz: if you run any services that open ports, maybe
<odat> varsendagger, for?
<sirgrim> :(
<funbitz> like torrents?
<varsendagger> the message where i told you to f yourself
<mwe> funbitz: by default nothing is listening
<cafuego> mwe: Well, traditionally you'd WANT those ports open ;-)
<mwe> cafuego: right, but maybe you want to filter them
<Xamusk> hello
<varsendagger> i didn't aks what was better, i asked how to do something, but anyway i like you we can be friends
<AskHL> I take the liberty of pasting my previous question from earlier today: when I install applications (which are not supported from repositories) such as Maple or JBuilder onto a FAT drive (because of disk space issues, and because some of their files should be referenced from windows systems), then I cannot execute them. I get the error: "/bin/sh: bad interpreter: Permission denied". Is there any way to fix this?
<r0bby> fun
<r0bby> I'm using au mirrors
<cafuego> D'oh, filter schmilter.
<r0bby> in the us
<r0bby> whatever works
<cafuego> the .au missor is nearly as crap as the .us one.
<Xamusk> is it worth installing the ubuntu 64-bit version in a 64-bit processor or is it better to use the x86 one?
<geneo93> uk mirrors are better for us
<cafuego> Best one I've found is nl.archive.
<owner> x86 for the best compatibility
<Sapaki> hi everyone i have another question
<r0bby> okay
<paxmaster_> i am looking for a lightwight file manager
<Zorlon> Hey I remember a question I need answered...when I try to do like "sudo updatebd &" it gets screwed up and I can't enter my p***word..what is the correct way to do it background tasked?
<r0bby> I'll switch soon as apt-get finishes
<Xamusk> owner, do you know what can I gain with the AMD64 one?
<thenuke> paxmaster_: emelfm
<cafuego> paxmaster_: bash with 'mv', 'cp' and 'rm'.
<Zorlon> *updatedb*
<Sapaki> i tried applying the sudo apt-get install emacs to install it but it didn't work
<nickrud> AskHL, you need to put them on a linux partition, or change your vfat partition to executable (not a good idea, in general)
<cafuego> Xamusk: Not much, unless you do much development work.
<paxmaster_> thx
<mcdenyer> what folder is the mozilla stuff in?
<foampeace> hi
<enot> im trying to enter my root p***word. But only "su" accepts it. I guess that my new p***word was not added to shadow. How to flush it there?
<r0bby> \us mirrors are screwed
<foampeace> how do you control dvd menus in mplayer?
<sirgrim> test
<funbitz> guys, another one (i just started in the wonderful world of linux :) is there some synonim to window's Total Commander in linux?
<cafuego> Zorlon: updatedb auto-backgrounds itself, just leave the & off.
<danne_> Hej
<Sapaki> i got this message:pachage emacs is not available, but is referred to by another package. this may that the package is missing
<AskHL> nickrud: thank you. I was able to execute programs under the same conditions using mandrake. This is a drive setup question? There is no way to apply it only for certain files?
