<acara> Alguien sabe cual es el canal de ubunto en castellano?
<dreyes> do you just jump in and ask a question?
<Shadyman> dreyes: Yes.
<Traum> why not?
<dreyes> aight
<sethk> dreyes, only if you want to get an answer :)
<dreyes> lol
<Traum> it's like swimming, you must kick with the feet ;-)
<nanotube> egytrack: "find / -name php.ini"
<egytrack> sudo edit /etc/php4/apache2/php.ini
<bur[n]er> nanotube: -name doens't work either, it's "find / php.ini |grep php.ini"
<egytrack> could not edit it
<dreyes> When I try to install my updates it looks as if it installs it but I still have the same programs not installed
<Timberwolf_42> <-- stupid person has arrived
<acara> Alguien sabe cual es el canal de ubunto en castellano
<bur[n]er> dreyes: restart those applications?
<dreyes> the update on the top right
<egytrack> i found the path , could not edit it
<Timberwolf_42> when burning an iso image to a cd using gnomebaker why does it not make it bootable?
<bur[n]er> egytrack: sudo :P
<egytrack> i try sudo edit /etc/php4/apache2/php.ini
<nanotube> bur[n]er: -name works for me.
<bur[n]er> ubotu: tell egytrack about sudo
<bur[n]er> wtf is edit
<bur[n]er> hehe
<bur[n]er> nanotube: could be because I use dapper I suppose :\
<Traum> Where do I find the reported bugs in the 5.10 partitioner?
<egytrack> to edit the file .. i have no idea
<tommo> hey burner i have amd 64 3500+ but linux is detecting it as 1.02ghz its supposed to be 2.2ghz ..
<acara> Alguien sabe cual es el canal de ubunto en castellano?
<bur[n]er> egytrack: ever use "nano" ? ;)
<nanotube> bur[n]er: 'man find' ? i doubt they changed find in dapper, dude.
<bur[n]er> nanotube: i did, there is no -name
<lexhider> can anyone else confirm that the startup time for xterm in dapper is HUGE?
<dreyes> i type my p***word in and I have ubuntu docs and libmagick to update
<bur[n]er> nanotube: i lied, i just didn't see it ;)
<Xenguy> bur[n]er: very funny
<egytrack> any other suggestions
<nanotube> bur[n]er: haha ok. i was about to say dude, if they changed GNU find for dapper, i'm gonna have biig second thoughts on upgrading to dapper when it comes out. :)
<acara> Alguien sabe cual es el canal de ubunto en castellano?
<tommo> whats wrong??
<dreyes> the pop up comes up and installs but it really doesn't
<bur[n]er> egytrack: nano nano nano nano
<Traum> tommo, thanks for asking: partitioner in 5.10 does not give me the option of ***igning lvm / raid
<dreyes> any help would be great
<acara> Alguien sabe cual es el canal de ubunto en castellano?
<nanotube> egytrack: use "pico" instead of edit
<Traum> dreyes, amen
<Shadyman> #es
<Shadyman> er,
<Shadyman> !es
<nanotube> egytrack: there is no "edit" in ubuntu. :)
<ubotu> Hispanohablantes: Por favor usen #ubuntu-es, #kubuntu-es o #edubuntu-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda.
<egytrack> sudo gedit /etc/php4/apache2/php.ini
<bur[n]er> alias edit=nano
<Xenguy> nanotube: nano, not pico
<bur[n]er> :)
<Raerklegler> bur[n]er: No luck :(
<aridese> what's the difference between nano and pico?
<nanotube> bur[n]er, egytrack, xenguy: if you check, pico is a symlink to nano. so they are really the same thing :)
<bur[n]er> Raerklegler: no screens found or something? try "ati" or "radeon" as your driver
<Xenguy> aridese: nano is free; pico isn't
<nanotube> bur[n]er, egytrack, xenguy: at least in ubuntu.
<dreyes> i might need to pray to the gods of ubuntu
<aridese> is pico better than nano?
<bur[n]er> stupid pico legacy
<Shadyman> dreyes: That always helps.
<Xenguy> nanotube: no, it is actually nano
<Shadyman> aridese: Less is more.
<aridese> More is Less.
<Raerklegler> bur[n]er: Tried "ati", didnt work either, Ill try radeon in a sec, but I doubt it will work
<nanotube> xenguy: lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 9 2006-01-10 20:01 /usr/bin/pico -> /bin/nano
<dreyes> anyone have problems with there updates?
<Xenguy> nanotube: yes, I rest my case
<nanotube> xenguy: no, i rest mine. i quote myself: "pico is a symlink to nano"
<nanotube> xenguy: i guess you just misread what i said. or something :)
<Xenguy> nanotube: you said they are the same thing; they are not. The application is nano; pico is just a symlink
<dreyes> i guess I will come back lata see u allorder
<bur[n]er> blah blah pico blah blah nano blah blah
<bur[n]er> ;)
<nanotube> xenguy: well, i said that in ubuntu, pico and nano are the same thing, because pico is a symlink to nano. i did not say "pico and nano are the same thing, period".
<linux_user400354> was up !!!!!!!!
<Xenguy> bur[n]er: from a 'free' perspective, it is relevant (nano is free; pico isn't)
<nanotube> xenguy: so anyway, i agree with you, you are correct. i am just saying, i did not say what you think i said. :)
<Xenguy> nanotube: K
<Syco54645> how can i tell how accurate the output from gkrellm for my temperature is?
<nanotube> howdy everyone. so when i play with xscreensaver config, looking at various screensavers, sometimes gnome just freezes completely. and i cant switch to another vty, cant ctrl-alt-backspace, nothing. mouse still moves, though. so, any suggestions?
<spolcyd> Syco54645, thermometer
<bur[n]er> Syco54645: a temperature gauge and opening your case ;)
<nanotube> hey xenguy, while you are here, got any ideas about my xsrceensaver freeze question?
<Syco54645> spolcyd: well where is the best place to put the gauge?
<bur[n]er> nanotube: proably your video driver and probably with GL screensavers?
<Syco54645> spolcyd: that was really want i was interested in
<linux_user400354> is ubuntu better than debian
<linux_user400354> and redhat
<Xenguy> nanotube: nope
<bur[n]er> linux_user400354: freakin troll :P
<sethk> linux_user400354, depends on what you are doing
<nanotube> bur[n]er: good idea, but what do i do about it? its not really a big deal, cuz i dont really care to use any screensaver besides blank screen... but i was just wondering what to do when gnome freezes like that - is there any way to kill it without rebooting the machine... since vtys and c-a-bkspc dont work.
<Xenguy> linux_user400354: a little more user-friendly desktop; based on the same thing really tho
<Syco54645> bur[n]er: well when it reports 32.0C even when i am compiling something that takes a bit of processor power, then i start to doubt it
<McJerry> anyone having probs on dapper with apt-get upgrade and 404 error failed to fetch?
<sethk> Syco54645, indeed, I would as well
<bur[n]er> nanotube: nothing i've found... what kind of video card? you could get new drivers
<bur[n]er> 32.0C seems pretty freakin hot to me
<linux_user400354> ubuntu has better hardware detection than other linux
<Traum> The solution to the problem I had, was: do not use bsd, but rather msdos as the partition table type. Thanks for helping, guys
<Syco54645> i mean granted i have a solid copper heat sink that i lapped till it was like a mirror and artic silver 5, i doubt it is that cool
<McJerry> Failed to fetch http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/libg/libgnomeui/libgnomeui-0_2.13.3-0ubuntu1_i386.deb 404 Not Found
<nanotube> bur[n]er: its ati radeon 9000, on a laptop. everything else works fine with "stock" drivers, i dont really care to change drivers just for that - esp. since it only happens when i play around looking at diff savers, not during normal operation.
<sethk> Syco54645, it would still be varying a bit.
<McJerry> all neeed packages give me same error
<bur[n]er> McJerry: with dapper?
<chmod775> !php
<ubotu> hmm... lamp is Linux-Apache-MySQL-PHP, one of the standard internet server installations. Installing LAMP in Ubuntu is fairly straightforward. More info at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ApacheMySQLPHP
<bur[n]er> McJerry: i get the same thing for the past couple days
<McJerry> yea, dapper bur[n]er
<McJerry> yes started couple days ago
<ReymiX> how to change a folder permissons on Terminal ?
<bur[n]er> McJerry: i ***ume the repo is down ;) we could try another repo besides us. ?
<McJerry> and when upgraded to 2.6.15-14, nvidia xorg broke again
<bur[n]er> er.. not us, but us as in the country ;)
<nanotube> syco54645: if it is at 32.0 all the time without changing at all, then probably it is not reporting real temp. it should be changing at least a bit.
<Syco54645> sethk: yeah i know. problem with my thermometer that i had in my bay is it uses battery. one watch battery so it dies really fast. also there is no 1.5 volt in the case (at least that i am away of) that i could just patch over to the thermometer
<Syco54645> nanotube: yeah that is why i was wondering if there is a different program
<McJerry> bur[n]er, i gotcha........lol
<sethk> Syco54645, you can make a voltage divider with a few resistors
<bur[n]er> McJerry: u get odd gnome bugs too regarding icons in the menu and losing your tasks panel applet?
<nanotube> syco54645: dont know, sorry...
<Syco54645> sethk: too much work and i cant find my multimeter... which angers me a bit. or my soldering iron
<nanotube> search synaptic for "temperature" ?
<Syco54645> nanotube: i am
<Xenguy> ReymiX: chmod
<nanotube> syco54645: heh i see. and any hits?
<McJerry> haven't had that prob bur[n]ner that i've noticed
<bur[n]er> McJerry: maybe i only got "some" updates and the 404 started I'm thinking ;)
<Syco54645> ktemperature.... the thought of using any kde app scares me as i ran kde for years before switching to gnome and dont miss kde at all
<bur[n]er> McJerry: if you find some working repos, let me kmnow :) I'm searching for them now
<Shadyman> Syco54645: KDE hates me.
<Syco54645> kde hates everyone
<nanotube> syco54645: i havent run any kde apps under gnome either, so cant give you any recommendations... but i have a friend who has used amaroK under gnome, he says it runs ok.
<CanYouHelpMePlz> how do i mount an iso on ubuntu?
<Shadyman> Syco54645: Exactly
<bur[n]er> CanYouHelpMePlz: mount -loop blah.iso /mount/point
<Syco54645> nanotube: i have been running kde apps under gnome for a long time, i just dont like to
<CanYouHelpMePlz> bur[n]er: does that work for .mdf also/
<nanotube> syco54645: hmm i see. :)
<bur[n]er> i have no idea what .mdf is, so... maybe?
<Markbb-> you need a program to convert .mdf to iso
