<Shadyman> kbrooks: Are you using deb to install a package?
<Biscuitian_Warhe> Xenguy: Now how do I get it to load and become default over GNOME?
<Eleaf> screevo, sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
<screevo> thanks. ctrlaltf2 away!
<kbrooks> Shadyman, synaptic ...
<Shadyman> kbrooks: *boggle*
<Eleaf> Xenguy, I disagree, my ibook could barely run it, kde is better, openbox is the fastest out of those though
<Eleaf> lol
<Xenguy> Biscuitian_Warhe: I think 'sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop' will do it, but you should be sure it's what you want first :-)
<Xenguy> Eleaf: KDE is certainly more resource hungry...
<spazzz> adub: Most laptop hardware is pretty friendly with it.. If you find out Ubuntu Live dosen't COMPLEATLY work with it don't give up till you try the Knoppix Live CD as well. Sometimes Knoppix's hardware detection works where Ubuntu's dosen't In that case its usualy not to hard to make it work with Ubuntu with a little tweeking
<WildRabbit> Errhm, how do I get another version in my Synaptic Package Manager ?
<Xenguy> Eleaf: perhaps we are not talking about the same thing
<WildRabbit> Like say, for Rhythmbox 0.9.2 ?
<Eleaf> Xenguy, have you done rigerous independent research prooving that?
<Crazy|One> hi all, just a quick qestion. how can I sort out monitor problems. I got a 15" TFT Monitor, when I connect it to this machine, the screen seems to roll around
<Shadyman> wildrabbit: you'd have to enable the breezy-backports repository
<adub> on the laptop i have now the only hardware i have to mess with is my orinoco gold pcmcia card to get it functioning properly
<Xenguy> Eleaf: it's not necessary, it's a no-brainer, honestly
<adub> spazzz thanks for the heads up on that note
<bur[n]er> WildRabbit: u need to get a repository that has the newer version...
<Shadyman> WildRabbit: And the universe, multiverse ones
<Xenguy> Eleaf: xfce4 is lighter than either gnome or kde
<Shadyman> !tell WildRabbit about repositories
<Biscuitian_Warhe> And another question.. I can only use 1024x728 screen resolution, but my xorg is configured for another size I want, how do I get those sizes to display
<Eleaf> Xenguy, I'm just kidding, I guess I am being a little bit overexagerative, but I never found XFCE to be extremely not memory- hungry. I did find it a little better than kde though, but it's no where near openbox /flux or others like that
<spazzz> adub: No problum. Im a noob myself but I don't mind sharing what little knowlage I have
<adub> i have noticed as years have gone on more and more hardware support for everything has gotten better in linux
<Shadyman> Biscuitian_Warhe: Edit your xorg.conf file
<adub> this laptop though when i first got it was a complete utter nightmare
<tritium> !tell Biscuitian_Warhe about resolution
<screevo> Hurrah. I'm back in X. Thanks, yall
<screevo> thanks Eleaf
<Eleaf> sure screevo !
<Crazy|One> anybody :\
<egytrack> hi
<Shadyman> egytrack: Hi.
<Xenguy> Eleaf: yes, open/flux are doubtless more light-weight, but then they are window managers too
<Sunflower> hi
<adub> spazzz i have used linux off and on for years my friend but im still learning as well because in the past i would tend to run back to windows but no more
<Eleaf> hummm
<adub> linux is the true power man.......and ubuntu the best distro
<Sunflower> why?
<Eleaf> Xenguy, well, true. I just never got to settling into XFCE ;)
<spazzz> adub: Same here. Though I hardly use Windows anymore. When I do its usualy for two Games that refuse to run in WINE
<bobbyd__> Crazy_Man, what do you mean "roll around" ?
<spazzz> Microcrap Flight Sim 2004 and Orbiter
<Xenguy> Eleaf: I hated it at first, then I came back to it a few years later -- now I appreciate it more :-)
<Eleaf> spacey, Flight sim 2004 yay!
<Eleaf> lol
<egytrack> is this command right "Sudo Nautilus"
<Sunflower> anyone know a good tutorial online for linux?
<Crazy|One> the image on the screen seems to go down again, then it reappears at the top of the screen again
<Eleaf> Xenguy, do you use it as your main manager? I may have to try it again some day..
<Xenguy> egytrack: lower case
<Crazy|One> makes sense?
<Shadyman> egytrack: gksudo nautilus
<Eleaf> spazzz, I mean
<bobbyd__> spazzz, have you tried FlightGear?
<spazzz> Eleaf: Yeap... If only it would work in freeking WINE
<Xenguy> Eleaf: I configure both GNOME and XFCE4 and then choose what I want when I want :-)
<Eleaf> spazzz, have you tried flightgear?
<egytrack> to view files as admin
<bobbyd__> Crazy_Man, search the forums for the model of your TFT
<XsXs> anyone know what the package for gtk+2 is called? can i install it with apt-get?
<spazzz> bobbyd__: Yes I have it installed but I find it still a little too rough around the edges for me to use plus I dislike the lack of Real Weather.
<screevo> Ok. I have a strange problem now with Rhythmbox. Anyone know that program well?
<bobbyd__> Crazy_Man, or google for ubuntu and your tft model
<Shadyman> screevo: Maybe, shoot
<Eleaf> spazzz, that's the flight simulator I use, It's pretty fun ;p
<Eleaf> Xenguy, = )
<Ace> Got a question.
<screevo> Ok. Rhythmbox starts up fine.
<screevo> I can play ONE mp3 fine
<bobbyd__> spazzz, ok, just didn't know if you'd seen it
<Crazy|One> bobbyd__ I have tried cannot find any. I am currently borrowing a friends monitor and obviously ned to give it back soon. I cant afford to purchase a new monitor
<screevo> but as soon as I switch to a second track, it spontaneously quits
<screevo> Every time, without fail.
