For some reason certian websites are not responding for me... Anything Google Related, Wikipedia and the like <spazzz> But everyone else on my network can see them <Xenguy> logical_mark: brainwave... <adub> there is no other way to find the rpm of a hard drive from within linux <stfn> logical_mark: everything under /dev/ is what's called a "device file", it's raw access to partition one on drive sda. you'll need to mount a filesystem on that partition before you can do anything like use it as your home directory. type "mount" to see what filesystems you already have mounted and where <Delvien> how do i stop vmware services that are runnning in the background?? <Shadyman> adub: Never tried, myself ;) <Shadyman> delvien: Check the Services Manager <buggzero> ok so no one has any hints onto repairing firefox ?:( <Delvien> shadyman im sorry what? <Shadyman> buggzero: I've never had to <buggzero> curses <Shadyman> Delvien: Try Ctrl+Alt+Del. <spazzz> It's not a DNS error..... Or anythign weird like that. <spazzz> Just don't respond <NotLarry> I have ubuntu 5.04 installed, I want to make ndiswrapper work so I can use my usb belkin "rtx00 chipset" wi-fi tow work. I can't even seem to get ndiswrapper to compile <Shadyman> Delvien: It should have some kind of catch for a services manager <Xenguy> stfn: he's gone :-( <NotLarry> Any suggestions on where to start (I seem to be looking in all the wrong place) <Delvien> shadyman nothing comes up for cntl alt del <NotLarry> s/place/places <Shadyman> notlarry: You don' tneed to compile. Ubuntu has ndiswrapper already compiled. <spazzz> I can PING it fine though <Shadyman> NotLarry: Just need to set it up <spazzz> any idea's? <Shadyman> spazzz: Try clearing caches? <WildRabbit> Does anyone know of a music program / Jukebox, that plays the iTunes music sharing? <stfn> Xenguy: well, good luck to him! <Shadyman> WildRabbit: Rhythmbox? <Shadyman> Wildrabbit: either that or Cowbell <spazzz> Yea.... no go <linux_user400354> ubuto a is b <WildRabbit> Shadyman, No, I don't think rhythmbox plays iTunes music sharing. <spazzz> Shady Man: Yes.. No better <Shadyman> WildRabbit: Oh? the new versions do. <spazzz> The connection has timed out <spazzz> he server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond. <spazzz> <spazzz> * <WildRabbit> Shadyman, really? <Shadyman> !paste <spazzz> ACK Sorry <ubotu> paste is probably please use http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/ or #flood to paste large amounts of text <Shadyman> spazzz: lol <spazzz> Second time i've done that on accident. <Shadyman> spazzz: I think the internet is broken. I timed out a lot even on my windows box <nomin> allright! fullscreen for streaming video works right with VLC! <NotLarry> Shadyman. Ok, where do I look for that? I find faq that say to just run ndiswrapper -i yourxpdriver.inf but I got no ndiswrapper on the box:) <Shadyman> NotLarry: Woo <nomin> ...now if I could only forward and reverse streaming video <spazzz> Shadyman: Well its working for everyone else in my network... But if its a routing issue then it will eventualy resolve itself. <Shadyman> NotLarry: do sudo ndiswrapper... <adub> why do a lot of laptop hard drives only have 4200 rpm that is slow isnt it?? <Shadyman> adub: Yes, but it takes less power and makes less noise. <spazzz> adub: Power consumption I would ***ume <Shadyman> adub: and creates less heat <adub> shadyman i see <NotLarry> yeah, 'command not found' <spazzz> adub: Yea... Power and heat are the two things Laptops fear most <Shadyman> notlarry: Hmmm <adub> i always leave my laptop plugged in <Shadyman> notlarry: Have you tried installing the ndiswrapper package from synaptic, if there is one? <adub> I see that does seem logical <Biscuitian_Warhe> This is more a theming questiong but.. How do I get the OS X Title bar in GNOME? <Shadyman> Biscuitian_Warhe: OSX title bar? <WildRabbit> Shadyman, how do I play iTunes Shared Music in Rhythmbox? <Shadyman> Biscuitian_Warhe: you mean the menu bar thing? <Biscuitian_Warhe> Shadyman: Yeah <Xenguy> Biscuitian_Warhe: use XFCE ;-) <Biscuitian_Warhe> Xenguy: XFCE? <Shadyman> Biscuitian_Warhe: you mean, where the file, edit, etc are part of the title bar? <spazzz> adub: Well most people don't. They're not designed to be used as desktop units so they're designed to fit as much as possible in a small space. Power consuption is at a premium because it makes it last longer. In such a small space anything that makes alot of heat is also an issue because of limitations on ventaliation <NotLarry> nope, sorry, I just installed ubuntu for the first time (just got some spare hardware today) <adub> does anyone know the command or a way to see the rpm of your hard drive? dont mean to be repeating just really wanting to figure this out _jason thanks again for the lshw command its definitely a good one <Biscuitian_Warhe> Shadyman: Yeah <Shadyman> Biscuitian_Warhe: Oh, then, what Xenguy said. <dirtbiker> anyone know how to use the pptp vpn server package? <NotLarry> Checking it now <Xenguy> Biscuitian_Warhe: j/k (about 50% :-) <Shadyman> NotLarry: Ok :) <BoD_SWAT> when I use gksu, I can't use my login correctly (but sudo works fine). Any ideas? <Shadyman> BoD_SWAT: When you use it for what? <kbrooks> gr <NotLarry> That may be it:) Installing it now:) <kbrooks> corewars: <kbrooks> Depends: libglib1.2 (>=1.2.0) but it is not installable <kbrooks> Depends: libgtk1.2 (>=1.2.10-4) but it is not installable <Shadyman> NotLarry: Ok :) <adub> i always have had a laptop as my main box......once i started doing that i have been hooked on laptops but my cost to upgrade machines is high :( oh and linux is harder to configure on laptops usually <BoD_SWAT> Shachaf, LinNeighborhood for example <WildRabbit> Shadyman, how do I play iTunes Shared Music in Rhythmbox? <Shadyman> kbrooks: Apt-get install libglib <Biscuitian_Warhe> Xenguy: Is this like another display manager? <adub> is there a place i can go to find out if a laptop ubuntu friendly <Shadyman> WildRabbit: Only the newer versions do it, aka backports, etc. iirc <Shadyman> adub hmm <kbrooks> Shadyman, have you even read the mesage in full? <Xenguy> Biscuitian_Warhe: yes, a desktop manager (light-weight, resembles *nix's CDE) <BoD_SWAT> Shadyman,, LinNeighborhood for example <spazzz> adub : Best way to find out is try loading a Ubuntu or Knoppix Live CD into it <kbrooks> Shadyman, "but it is not installable" <Shadyman> kbrooks: No. <BoD_SWAT> Shachaf, sorry, it was meant for Shadyman :P <Shadyman> kbrooks: Ok, then, yes. <Eleaf> Xenguy, I find XFCE to be terribly memory consuming and cluttered.. <Eleaf> lol <NotLarry> step in the right direction, get driver present, hardware present. bb <screevo> Hey, i hosed X. whats the command to reconfigure it? <adub> spazzz true that is what i have always been told probably since im all ubuntu now i have definitely found my distro ill geta ubuntu live cd <Xenguy> Eleaf: it is certainly not memory consuming, or cluttered <screevo> dpkg something or other <Shadyman> kbrooks: Are you using deb to install a package?
