<14> mi6: well, you lost some bits of very critical configuration...
<8> tnx
<5> ciro: locate, find, whereis
<15> !tell gymsmoke about pastebin
<16> I like that you can use ext3,XFS,reiserfs,JFS with Ubuntu looks like both JFS and XFS are out of the SUSE installer next release. I like more to choose from FS wise.
<4> gnomefreak: thx much...truly appreciate it...love Ubuntu community already
<10> how to install xmms ?
<11> gnomefreak: thanks...
<2> gymsmoke: please don't paste in here, use a pastebin instead
<6> duelboot: now go into your /etc/apt/sources.list change hoary to breezy and run sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
<14> mi6: and the last bit in your page suggests you have some serious hardware problem.
<13> mi6: seems like you might have your root fileststem hosed
<17> !no
<0> Ahh, too bad, I really thought so...
<5> svenne: install the xmms package in synaptic
<18> svenne, sudo apt-get install xmms
<10> thx
<14> mi6: the serious hardware problem is probably that your CPU or your RAM are broken.
<10> after that?
<19> svenne : enjoy
<20> So i have searched the forum, other forums, and google. no answer :/ Should i just through the puter out the window? :p http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/10783
<18> svenne, just run it.. from the applications-> sound menu, or xmms from command prompt
<10> thx
<10> :D
<4> gnomefreak: will do it now...and let you know
<13> Blis***: that would rather result in random crashes, while mi6 is experiencing crashes in certain circumstances
<15> you can do a mem check
<7> Blis***: I am typing this on the same machine, so no problem with my H/W
<21> i have found phpmaydmin package at packages.ubuntu.com but when i try apt-get install phpmyadmin gives me error could not find package...
<5> !info phpmyadmin
<6> duelboot: ty i might not answer right away but i should be here
<0> phpmyadmin: (set of PHP-scripts to administrate MySQL over the WWW), section universe/web, is extra. Version: 4:2.6.4-pl1-1ubuntu1 (breezy), Packaged size: 2834 kB, Installed size: 10856 kB
<10> ;)
<10> i got another hd
<5> nick|here: enable universe
<14> redguy: no, he is experiencing random crashes.
<10> how to save files into that?
<22> where would i go to figure out how to get sound to work on a new install?
<23> what do I have to do to use virtual\vanaty hosts in irc?
<7> Blis***: I am typing this on the same machine, so no problem with my H/W
<14> redguy: the random crashes caused by hw problems have ****ed his filesystem too.
<21> _jason: comment it out
<24> laffer: you mean, on the client? or on the server's side?
<5> nick|here: huh?
<14> mi6: if you want to believe that, I have no more to say. However try to figure out why you get "[4294730:255000] double fault, tss at c0347080" then.
<7> I may not be a linus expert, but i know my H/W is OK
<5> ubotu: tell nick|here about universe
<21> _jason: i am a newbie, could you explain me more?
<25> what is a real simple color picker app for Linux?
<13> Blis***: well, we might make him run memtest then, but I think hw is not the issue here
<7> Blis***: Tell me why did i get that
<6> Blis***: language please
<5> nick|here: check out your private messages from ubotu

<14> vbgunz: 'xcolorsel'

<23> ic56 on the client. but can I create on ubuntu vhosts and use them?
<25> Blis***: thank you
<5> ubotu: tell svenne about register
<13> mi6: If I were you I would try booting from knoppix or ubuntu live and then fsck the root filesystem
<10> :)
<4> gnomefreak: holy cow, about 2 hours to go!!!
<7> redguy: I can boot again from Knoppix , how do i fsck the guest file system?
<4> and I wanted to play halo, so much for that :)
<24> laffer: irc -h <hostname or IP number> . I've never done it but I see no reason why the networking parts of the kernel would be different on ubuntu from all the other linux distros.
<6> duelboot: thats not bad took me 7
<15> duelboot: try wine?
<10> can someone help me?i got 2 hds.. and i can only read from the one with linux installed?

<4> Nick: love red wine...hehe
<22> new install, No sound, can someone help?
<15> :) wouldn't know I'm 1 heh
<10> _jason: nothing
<13> mi6: do you know where is your root filesystem? /dev/hda1 perhaps? if you dont run mount | grep " / " from the rescue mode
<5> svenne: it's not formatted as anything?
<26> !hangman
<0> meowmeow: I give up. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<10> can i pm you _jason?
<7> mount /dev/hdc2 /mnt/<newfolder>
<7> redguy: mount /dev/hdc2 /mnt/<newfolder>
<5> svenne: better if we do it here, that way more people can help
<10> okay
<6> meowmeow: no games in any of the #ubuntu channels
<13> mi6: no, you don't have to mount it
<10> i got 1 hd.. i installed linux on a partion with 10gb
<19> ron: do you have all requirements installed
<13> mi6: just fsck -vnf /dev/hda2
<15> svenne: (17:39:32) svenne: can someone help me?i got 2 hds.. and i can only read from the one with linux installed?
<15> svenne: lost a HD pretty fast it seems..
<27> hello everybody, what do you have to install to view divx5 movies?
<7> redguy: well i boot from Knoppix CD then i mount the hosed root filesystem at /dev/hdc2 right
<6> !divx
<0> it has been said that restricted is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats Most of the formats listed here can be replaced by !FreeFormats
<6> pulver: ^^^
<7> redguy: ok i'will try it w/o mounting
<13> mi6: note that -n sigifies that it won't make any changes to the filesystem. this is in case that you really have a hardware problem and you might break even more when trying to fix stuff with fsck
<5> svenne: format the other one using gparted, then come back here and ask how to mount it. ext3 is probably the best filesystem to format it as for use with linux
<13> mi6: well, fsck will issue a warning message when you try to fsck a mounted filesystem
<22> New install, no sound can someone help?
<28> Hey so how is everyone doing?
<15> !alsa
<0> well, alsa is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=32063, see also !dmix
<27> gnomefreak: gives me this dejavu feeling for being there and done that.. maybe missed something though
<15> !tell NewbRyan about alsa
<28> newbryan. What type of sound card?
<29> hello
<30> Is anyone available to ***ist me with installing atitvout 0.4 for enabling svideo out on my thinkpad t21? please see http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/10765
<15> I want a doll of you tux
<7> redguy: actually i remember now, it booted fine, said filesystem mounted read only, skipping journal replay
<10> _Jason: i find it in disk
<10> system -> disks
<22> thugren onboard realtek
<5> svenne: what filesystem does it say it has?
<10> extended 3
<4> NewbRyan: there's a great starter guide at http://ubuntuguide.org/ search for "sound" and give it a try...not trying to push you off, but I'm new and it has helped me
<10> nope
<7> redguy: should i still try to force a filesystem check
<10> extended 2
<15> in general is it good to have swap space on the same HD or a different HD as the root partition
<5> svenne: okay, is it just one large partition? What does it say for ``Device:''?
<22> duelboot: thanks
<28> newbryan, Hmmmmm, What mobo?
<10> /dev/hda1
<4> NewbRyan: yw
