<2> dougemd: mem tester
<3> I am new to this program, is their a website that I can go that lists all available programs for download?
<4> hatake_kakashi, how would that help with dvd play back?
<5> tsipper: it's an operating system :-)
<2> tsipper: synaptic
<1> dougemd: or write your own little program to do some operations and time how long it takes..
<6> tsipper: http://packages.ubuntu.com/
<7> hey, what's a fancy tool for making presentations other than ooimpress?
<8> hey all.. i a keep getting the following two lines in dmesg
<8> [4384384.260000] atkbd.c: Use 'setkeycodes e02a <keycode>' to make it known.
<8> [4384384.357000] atkbd.c: Unknown key released (translated set 2, code 0xaa on isa0060/serio0).
<7> maybe something more flashish, based on animation
<1> tga1: I think there is one with the koffice packages

<2> dougemd: *shrug* I don't know, you asked about memtest86. I ***ume faulty RAM can effect certain parts of the OS, etc
<8> sorry pastebin.com is not loading
<9> jbmagic: hmm, I dunno I tried sending a message to you too
<7> biovore, other than kpresenter too
<10> dougemd, try another tutorial?
<11> tga1: crossover-office and PowerPoint 2003 :)
<0> bmur what you using to chat?
<12> can anyone help out with my time problem?
<4> ssstormy, I just can't understand why I can't get libdvdcss2 installed
<13> does anyone know about wireless networking using a broadcom wireless card?
<2> Bmur: you have to be registered to pm registered users
<10> dougemd, what's the error?
<4> ssstormy, I get Package libdvdcss2 is not available, but is referred to by another package.
<4> This may mean that the package is missing, has been obsoleted, or
<4> is only available from another source
<14> epp time problem ? describe ?
<9> jbmagic, my irc client
<10> dougemd, open up synaptic
<15> hatake_kakashi: sorry i forgot windows is ahead of linux
<16> ubotu: tell dougemd about dvd
<7> Hawaii101, right
<17> !broadcom
<18> hmm... broadcom is http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=25683 for a guide to setting up Broadcom network cards
<0> bnur using mirc here

<10> dougemd, or use apt-get install libdvdread3
<10> dougemd, that's the package i have
<19> Bmur: jbmagic you need to register with nickserv /msg nickserv help
<15> hatake_kakashi: if you pay your dumb :P
<9> jbmagic: I'll just talk fast
<1> www.kde-look.org is good for eye candy
<11> tga1: you can use gimp to create animated gifs :)
<20> hi
<1> www.gnome-look.org I think too
<7> Hawaii101, any other bright ideas?
<0> bmur ok
<20> yes... I love "gnome-look.org"
<11> a few ....
<2> Laz: if you don't pay, you fall under piracy, and if you get caught? don't blame on me. I like how linux was and how it will be.. something that windows can never compare to 'bang-for-your-buck'. So if you desire to choose an OS that does not comply with RASIS/POSIX compliance. Then by all means, go right ahead
<4> ssstormy, says I already have the latest
<11> hatake_kakashi: have you seen the compiz videos
<10> then you're good to go
<2> Hawaii101: no
<10> oh wait, not yet
<4> ssstormy, version of libdvdread3....what dvd player are you using?
<10> dougemd, there's a script that libdvdread3 isntalls, that you have to run
<11> hatake_kakashi: INCREDIBLY cool UI
<12> intelikey, my crappy mac wont boot linux because the time defaults to 1901. gnome doesnt like it, so it only boots if im connected to the net where it can grab the real time.
<10> dougemd, I use xine most of the time
<1> POSTIX is a must for me!!
<21> can anyone please tell me how to resize an ext3 partition?
<10> monzie, try gparted
<22> any one know any good tutoriles for ubuntu?
<10> monzie, apt-get install gparted
<4> ssstormy, can you point me to a how to with libdvdread3 so I don't have to waste your time with you explain to me the details?
<10> chameleon, take a look in the help browser. theres a icon on the top of the screen
<9> jbmagic: I have a cheap $20 (after rebate) dlink router. ...but I'm actually using a friend's linksys. My card is a foxconn that I got for $10 on Newegg (during a sale). It was detected by Ubuntu and has been ok (sometimes it drops signal temporarily though and I'm not sure the cause, not a big deal)
<23> ssstormy: do i need to register everything in the terminal, first day on
<19> chameleon: wiki.ubuntu.com

<10> dougemd, yeah just a min
<10> weareallone, yeh you run the gst-reg from a terminal
<10> weareallone, and incase I spelled it bad type "gst-reg<tab>"
<24> has anyone installed nfdiswrapper
<0> bmur thanks so much.. that dlinl router is wireless and wired right?
<12> my crappy mac wont boot linux because the time defaults to 1901. gnome doesnt like it, so it only boots if im connected to the net where it can grab the real time.
<10> dougemd, it's ALL here : https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats
<25> ssstormy: it is maybe gst0.8-register, do the tab earlier.
<20> that's interesting
<26> how do I mount this vcd I just put in?
<10> dabaR, I know it's gst-regsomething
<23> that registers any new apps?
<10> weareallone, no it registers your new gst plugins
<20> I would want to know that how to do it? does anyone know ?
<23> i installed totem-xine, how do use it?
<9> jbmagic: Oh, the dlink works fine as well though... This is the website I used for enabling the repositories. Some of the repositories are disabled by default, this tells you how to enable them. It gives you access to alot of other programs such as the VLC media player. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AddingRepositoriesHowto
<20> vcd... case.... try /media directory
<22> i take it ubuntu does not come with Wine
<27> newbie question, how do I play MP3's?
<26> kijun how do I mount it?
<28> sinaduel, take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats
<0> Bmur thanks so much
<20> wine... I don't think so (but not sure)
<20> however, you can get it
<29> ubotu, tell sinaduel about restrictedformats
<14> epp there are two scripts in the /etc/init.d/ both dealing with "hwclock*" i sujest you remove the symlinks in /etc/rcS.d/ that point to these two scripts and add a script or a line in the bootmisc script that sets the clock to some default like this present time. that should allow you to boot and start gnome. then you can use ntpdate to sync you clock with the network as needed. if you need help with any o
<20> system >> administator >> Synatic
<0> Bmur does that router to wired and wireless right? i just want my main window xp connected by wired to router and ubuntu system wireless with wireless card

<12> intelkey, i will try to understand what you just said.
<31> A recent upgrade to the wine package made a program not work anymore so i need to downgrade it, how would i go about that?
<9> jbmagic: yeah I believe so, that should work fine. The Ubuntu has some pretty good documentation if I remember correctly. If your ever going to use dial-up, use an external modem.
<0> Bmur i have dsl modem
<32> hi.. why I cannot setting up SWAT? I thought I did configure it.
<0> Bmur what is repositories mean>?
<20> hi
<20> is anyone here?
<33> where is smeg config at?
<33> i want to delete an item from menu
<14> epp man hwclock should help you
<34> what's the default root p***word?
<35> hi
<25> !root
<18> By default, the root p***word is locked in Ubuntu. Look at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/RootSudo for all information.
<35> what's the command for running the installer from the flight 4 cd?
<9> jbmagic: I just want to help you out with some things that took me a little time. Ok ok. Repositories are basically where these packages are stored on the internet I guess. So if you go to the add software program you can select a program to add and it will go out and grab the packages and install it for you.
<35> the flight 4 livecd?
<20> there is no default root p***word
<14> the defauld root p***word is the null string
<0> bmur oh i see thanks. why by default they block that?
<9> jbmagic: the more repositories that are enabled, the more programs you can access through the program manager app.
<14> jbmagic cause they can ?
<35> espresso maybe?
<20> however you can make it (root p***word) from... the menu system >> admin >> usrs and groups
<19> whats the command to change a filename?
<0> lol
<36> IdleOne: mv
<19> Xenguy: mv?
<20> mv
<36> IdleOne: man mv
<20> yes, it is mv
<14> mv = move
<19> I dont want to move it
<20> no no no
<14> yes you do
<19> I want to rename it
<20> think about it
<36> IdleOne: man mv
<19> okie
<9> jbmagic: I often wondered this same question. Linux people tend to do a lot of things that don't make sense to the average user.
<28> IdleOne: yes, you rename by moving :)
