<2> Ummm, okay. Im not an xpert at this IRC sorta thing... But, below this convo in the same window.... there 'maybe' something there indicating the file im trying to send...

<6> Hi, I'm having a weird problem. My DVD-RW isn't being picked up fully. I can write CDs but not DVDs. Anyone have any tips?
<1> paul, nope..
<7> chalcedony, sudo chmod 77u5 court_2006-02-16"000_2971.jpg
<4> nickrud, no.
<7> chalcedony, sudo chmod 775 court_2006-02-16"000_2971.jpg <--- that
<1> paul, i just turned auto accept on...
<2> hmmm, add me to MSN and I can send it that way?
<1> paul.
<4> nickrud, it's an https link which I can't access under links2
<2> ahh, okay. I will try and send it again Needlez
<7> chalcedony, but add the dir to it
<8> does anyone have a hp laserjet 1100 working with ubuntu?
<0> kakalto, that has the distilled wisdom of this channel, and you can use lynx to read it
<4> ohk thanks
<1> paul, if it doesn work this time, we can do it via msn
<2> Needlez, sorry... it doesnt seem to be sending...
<2> needlez, my msn is spiderz_a_killer@hotmail.com
<7> chalcedony, do u understand?
<9> where is the darned gaim directory?!?!?!
<0> pyrotic, either ~/.gaim or /usr/share/gaim
<4> nickrud, well, wisdom must go through some process :P
<10> richiefrich, when i try to directly install libdvdcss with apt-get, it says there is no install candidate. is there a way around that?
<7> pyrotic, your back
<8> i think my parallel port is fuced
<9> richiefrich for a bit, yes.
<0> kakalto, that page has been around nearly forever, but it's still in CategoryCleanup
<11> !tell roblef about restricted
<4> nickrud, ah lol
<7> pyrotic, it's permission probblems for chull
<9> nickrud because I need to install an xfire plugin' for gaim...
<9> richiefrich did she get it done though?
<7> pyrotic, idk she's trying i think
<5> why are people trying to flood me off of freenode?
<11> chai
<7> chalcedony, who? im not
<11> chalcedony: i suspect that you're flooding yourself?
<9> richiefrich k. well.. good luck to helping her.. I'm on a new mission now..
<5> Hobbsee: nope
<7> pyrotic, ok
<11> odd
<5> not when you have enemies
<9> richiefrich I can't find the gaim directory to add the plug-in xfire
<10> hobbsee
<10> \thanks
<0> kakalto, but seriously, nearly everyone that goes there has success. It just needs prettifying I think
<7> roblef, hmm what is the alternative what does it say
<7> pyrotic, the gaim dir that --> ~/.gaim
<9> richiefrich hm.. K. I'll try that..

<5> richiefrich chalcedony, do u understand?
<5> so i missed the directions you gave, richiefrich
<7> chalcedony, sudo chmod 775 /DIRTOFILE/court_2006-02-16"000_2971.jpg <--- that
<4> nickrud; I don't care too much about prettifying it, it looks pretty as it is... from my text-based browser
<4> xD
<0> proconsul, I've had issues with printing with hplip, that's why I've been fearful of treading into your issue. But, if you wanna shoot ubuntu, I gotta help :)
<7> hplip is great
<4> nickrud, well, I've read it, more-or-less followed directions, and it's not working
<0> my pos hp1510, I sometimes have to cycle it's power & restart hplip & cupsys sometimes to get it back in sync

<4> nickrud, does it matter if I have linux-restricted-modules-386 aswell as linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`-nvidia-legacy ?
<7> chalcedony, ? u do that?
<5> richiefrich: i can't.
<7> why
<5> darling son does not want his mother to have root access
<7> chalcedony, yell at him
<5> my husband can .. just not me
<7> chalcedony, then have him do it :)
<5> he's afraid that some of my friends will tell me to do bad thigns.
<0> kakalto, um, try installing nvidia-glx-legacy , the restriced-uname-legacy thing seems to be non-existant
<5> yup
<5> i pasted it to son.. let him deal with it
<12> Does any one here watch diggnation? And if so what player do you use and codec? I'm having issues playing the video. The audio plays fine but the video goes slow.
<7> chalcedony, i dont tell bad things, but thats me :-)
<0> kakalto, and, 'more or less' usually won't cut it. It's hard enough to write docs that work step by step, let alone work 'more or less'
<9> richiefrich im out, toodaloo
<9> L8R3z~ everybody
<7> pyrotic, later
<4> nickrud, I installed nvidia-glx-legacy.
<5> richiefrich: i know.. and tonight it's going to kill the photo thing. he should know.
<4> nickrud, the thing is... I followed a different guide first
<7> chalcedony, it's hard without root access
<0> kakalto please don't say ubuntuguide
<4> nickrud, no :)
<4> nickrud, it was on the forums somewhere
<7> chalcedony, but u see what i mean by --> Read-only in OO ?
<7> chalcedony, that means u can do anything with it
<5> richiefrich: yes but my OpenOffice is NOT read-only
<4> nickrud, but I would have thought that linux-restricted-modules-uname-nvidia-legacy would be the one for the job...?
<7> chalcedony, no not the app, that means the photo
<5> apparently whatever my husband did installing his needs to be fixed?
<5> oh?
<5> so..
<5> each picture individually?
<7> chalcedony, yes
<5> we have a LOT
<13> so recursively chmod them
<7> u can change them all at one shot
<7> chalcedony, sudo chmod -Rfv 775 /DIR/TO/PHOTO
<5> richiefrich: ok i'll tell my husband when he feels better
<5> thank you very much!!!!
<7> chalcedony, ok.. i hope that helps
<0> kakalto, what's confusing me is that the ubuntu package search web site shows that package, but when I click on the list of files (looking for the kernel module) it tells me that the package doesn't exist
<7> chalcedony, u ever need anything u can ask me, ill try my best
<5> thank you very much, richiefrich :))
<5> have a great night :)
<7> chalcedony, come visit in my channel
<4> nickrud, well, when I apt-get install linux-restricted-modules-`uname -r`-nvidia-legacy, it installs fine
<4> what is linux-386?
<5> richiefrich: ok where?
<10> richiefrich - I got it working. thank you!
<10> had to visit the URL that the ubotu sent
<7> chalcedony, u get the invite?
<7> chalcedony, #penguinslair
<0> kakalto, if I were in your shoes, I'd apt-get remove --purge anything you've installed so far, and start at the top of the nvidia wiki page.
<13> kakalto, linux-386 is a metapackage that depends on the latest 386 kernel and 386 restricted modules
<14> hi
<14> help
<4> DBO, ohk thanks
<13> hab, whats your problem =)
<4> nickrud, ok
<14> how do i add a program to look on my hard drive from the live cd to play a audio file?
<15> hab, what file format?
<14> mp3
<15> ubotu, tell hab about mp3
<16> Is there a way I can convert my Linux encoded avi files to ones that Windows can read?
<16> !win32
<17> Did you get hit by a windmill? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, QMario
<16> !codecs
<17> Binary only codecs (such as w32codecs) can be downloaded from plf or cipherfunk, see !easysource for details on these repositories
<18> live cd can't have nonfree stuff (just ask the karora devs!) and good luck adding packages to it..
<13> QMario, they should me readable in windows, avi files are not linux specific. If anyhing windows simply doesnt have the right codecs. Check out ffdshow for windows
<19> zcat[1], are the nvidia/ati binary only drivers nonfree by this sense?
