<0> format with ext3?
<1> What will install grub onto the MBR?
<1> I need to knoqw
<2> rab: i would yes
<3> acidjedi, not if you choose it not too
<3> acidjedi, for that you will need the alternative install CD
<3> oh "what"
<1> I can only boot into windows, and I want a choice
<4> hi
<5> there is a command you can run to remove everything KDE just can't remember it can someone refresh my memory
<6> NsOmNiAc, yes
<3> acidjedi, then just let ubuntu install grub then.
<4> acidjedi owned :P http://www.orkspace.net/owned/
<1> How?
<6> NsOmNiAc, type apt-cache pkginfo kubuntu-desktop
<7> man, how do i fix this, amarok seemed really nice :/

<8> hello all :0
<2> acidjedi: have you already installed Ubuntu?
<0> delire, k its all formated. Now just sudo grub-install?
<6> NsOmNiAc, and remove all the dependencies
<9> Amarok is neat-o
<1> Yes delire
<2> rab: yep.
<0> thanks
<7> It's not so neat-o when it won't start >:
<8> can someoen help me with totem-xine ?
<2> acidjedi: is the windows drive plugged in? can you mount it?
<1> And I installed windows on a different partition, and now it only boots windows
<10> Tobberoth: try installing arts again, along with gstreamer0.8-artsd along with amarok-engines
<6> NsOmNiAc, oops... apt-cache showpkg
<2> acidjedi: ahah... ;)
<7> that seems sorta useless, the error isn't with arts of amarok, it must be one of the other packages it installed
<7> like the KDE lib or something
<2> acidjedi: you need to boot up off a LiveCD (the Dapper CD will do), mount your Ubuntu partition, and then 'chroot' into it. from there run 'sudo grub-instll'.
<10> Tobberoth: can you pm me the output?
<7> yeah
<11> hmm..i'm trying to install windows version of firefox using wine.. so I can install the shockwave plugin on it.... but I get an error "could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\Firefox.exe": Module not found
<1> I'm in knoppix now, will that work?
<2> acidjedi: i would take you through the process, but i'm about to watch a film. many here will be able to guide you through.
<6> NsOmNiAc, and then you might wanna do an apt-get install ubuntu-desktop just to make sure nothing importtant was removed
<2> acidjedi: yes.
<11> and when I try xwine it just doesnt do anything
<5> thanks
<2> acidjedi: mount the Ubuntu partition.
<12> anyone use camfrog at ubuntu?
<1> it is
<2> rab: once installed 'sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst'
<0> delire, uhm ii dont know what arguments to give it
<6> NsOmNiAc, or compare dependancies of ubuntu-desktop and kubuntu-desktop and remove the common packages from the list
<13> Seveas, ia32-libs-* doesn't seem to have opengl in there....?
<8> anyone know why /tell me what i havent done that would make totem-xine not stay open when i click on the icon in the menu
<2> acidjedi: cool. what is the mount point? /mnt/?
<3> lib8264q, try running it from the terminak , it may be showing errors
<1> /mnt/hda1
<14> how do i clean up the old entries in the alt+F2 run application box?
<7> well felixruina, what do you make of it?
<2> acidjedi: right, 'sudo chroot /mnt/hda1'
<2> rab: hmm you shouldn't need to from memory.
<0> ?
<8> am iv checked the system ... no missing files or dependencies
<1> it says root@knoppix now in konsole
<0> sudo grub-install says i need arguments
<2> rab: just the device you want to install onto.
<13> is there 32bit libs for opengl?
<10> Tobberoth: it looks like it's having a problem initializing the sound card--looks almost like the kind of thing when oss and alsa are getting mad at each other
<13> in amd64 Ubuntu?
<2> rab: just the device name '/dev/hda' /dev/hdb etc. type 'sudo fdisk -l' to see what drive Ubuntu is on.
<6> NsOmNiAc, better to compare first
<0> ah
<11> hmm..i'm trying to install windows version of firefox using wine.. so I can install the shockwave plugin on it.... but I get an error "could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\Firefox.exe": Module not found
<2> acidjedi: i need you to 'sudo fdisk -l' also
<0> ubuntu is mounted as / and disk say . is sdb1
<0> so i'll do that
<7> felixruina: Well, it seems some random package has incorrect settings because of the whole engine deal... and it messes up amaroK
<15> what happened to my SOUND????
<1> sudo: unable to lookup Knoppix via gethostbyname()
<7> since not even a reinstall fixed it

<2> acidjedi: that will list the partitions and devices. we need to be sure what hard disk Ubuntu is on. do you know?
<6> acidjedi, did you change your hostname?
<1> I know its hda1, but that command didn't work
<2> acidjedi: forget using sudo then. sorry, we don't need it now.
<16> can somone please see if you can login to my ftp server?
<17> rhyddin: that's a bit vague, dontchathink?
<10> Tobberoth: go ahead and try installing the gstreamer0.8-artsd package and just see if that helps
<15> hehe
<15> a little
<18> when unrar-free attempts to create a directory, it says permission denied...how do i grant this script permission to create directories?
<2> acidjedi: ok that's fine then. now just 'grub-install /dev/hda'
<7> I don't even have arts installed..
<1> Do I need hda1 or just hda?
<2> rab: did that work? to check 'sudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst' and look for your new grub menu.
<19> sudo rm -rf /
<10> Tobberoth: that's why I'm thinking maybe when we installed arts things got set to use it, but gstreamer was getting in the way
<0> delire: hold on
<2> acidjedi: just the device.
<15> I installed Jack and the sound just dissapeared - then I uninstalled Jack thinkin I'd just get it back but NOOOO .. it wont return!!!
<2> squiggly: that's not helpful ;)
<1> /dev/hda: Not found or not a block device.
<10> Tobberoth: that package should help wrap arts up to work with gstreamer
<2> acidjedi: eg 'grub-install /dev/hda'
<16> Anyone? Can you please try opening ftp://202.1.194.190?
<17> rhyddin: does ``aplay /usr/share/sounds/startup.wav'' result in audible sound?
<2> acidjedi: hmm are you sure Ubuntu is on that? type 'mount'
<15> lemme check
<10> Tobberoth: it's all I can think of to do right now!
<10> Tobberoth: XD
<1> /dev/hda1 on / type ext3 (rw,errors=remount-ro)
<15> crimsun_: That would be a negative!
<11> hmm..i'm trying to install windows version of firefox using wine.. so I can install the shockwave plugin on it.... but I get an error "could not load L"c:\\windows\\system32\\Firefox.exe": Module not found
<15> crimsun_: It SAYS its playing but I hear nothing
<17> rhyddin: does it hang, or does it appear to play (but is inaudible) eventually returning a prompt?
<0> delire: it still shows windows in the menu
<15> crimsun_: It eventually returns to a prompt
<2> acidjedi: weird. are you sure you typed 'grub-install /dev/hda'
<17> rhyddin: pastebin ``asoundconf list && amixer''
<1> root@Knoppix:/# grub-install /dev/hda
<1> /dev/hda: Not found or not a block device.
<2> rab: can you 'ls -l /boot/grub/menu.lst'?
<7> amazing felixruina O.o it actually starts now
<7> Hell, it even plays mp3s O.o
<10> Tobberoth: whew!!
<15> crimsun_: Yikes. Lots of data
<0> yes
<2> acidjedi: hmm..
<7> felixruina: Good job! :D thanks
<10> Tobberoth: That's awesome!
<2> rab: what is the date string say?
<17> rhyddin: right. Pastebin it.
<2> s/is/does
<0> -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 4016 2006-06-02 23:30 /boot/grub/menu.lst
<15> crimsun_: Pastebin?
<17> !paste
<18> i can't unrar rar files...help
<20> Please do not flood the channel! Use http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org for pasting long texts as it does not distrupt the channel. You might also want to install the "webboard" package from Universe.
<17> rhyddin: see above.
<15> ah
<2> rab: it hasn't worked then.
<21> I have a question. Is there a way to get the Sirius internet radio player to work in Ubuntu Dapper?
<22> Quick question about the drives... I think I've done something to convince the computer to auto mount /dev/sda1 (usb thumbdrive) automatically at startup, but I don't always have it plugged in. how do i remove this?
<23> ubotu: tell geeksauce about rar
<22> !automount
<20> Do they come in packets of five. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/, czer323
<15> crimsun_: I'm using a windows box to type this .. my laptop with Ubuntu is next to me
<1> delire: any idea?
<2> acidjedi: gimme a moment.
<6> czer323, remove the line with /dev/sda from /etc/fstab
<6> czer323, better to # it out
<22> thanks, will try
<24> crimsun_, your work on alsa causes a warm feeling toward certain audigy2 cards whereas before they were frowned on and glared at ;-) thanks
<2> rab: what was the output when you ran the command?
<0> delire: :S what should i do
