<0> it says... flubox depends on menu (>=2.1.19) ; however: <2> navarone: no <0> package menu is not installed <0> dpkg: error processing fluxbox (--install): <4> christopher: ok, no worries; try sudo apt-get install menu <2> navarone: but i restarted and it went into windows and now i dont even see my slave drive <4> christopher: apt-get deals with dependencies, but dpkg doesn't <0> oh that sudo command.. <0> does that mean switch user do or super user do <0> its like a root byp*** right? <5> christopher, silly user do <4> christopher: in this case, super user do <1> jhons2, you can no longer see the slave drive cos it is formatted in linux file system and windows does not recognize it <4> Seveas: heh <2> navarone: ok how do i get back into linux? <0> ok i typed sudo apt-get install menu <0> still going <0> ok its setting up i think <0> or already did im back at my command prompt <1> jhons2, you should be able to boot with the ubuntu cd and I think type rescue at prompt. That will get a "live" linux going and you can then install grub to floppy...are you using windows now I take it? <4> christopher: ok, up arrow until you get the sudo dpkg command back, and hit enter <2> navarone: i am using windows xp now <6> Hi again <0> oh the first one <7> can someone help me i'm trying to get the graphic libraries installed for php and i tried imagick php5-gd and neither have worked <4> christopher: yeah <2> navarone: when i get back into linux what do i do to install grub on a floppy <0> sudo dpkg -i fluxbox.etc... <4> christopher: yup <0> so scroll up that and just hit enter? <0> oh wow <4> christopher: up arrow back throuh the command history to it, and hit enter <0> i didnt know it saved all the commands <4> christopher: the shell is a garden of delights ;) <4> Seveas: are you a ubuntu dev? <0> yes it is <0> im 25 and i always wanted to learn what linux was about <8> its about being free as in beer <0> took me 7 years to get and start to put time into it <4> Dasnipa`: as in "information wants to be beer" ? ;) <8> yeah <5> amphi, so far I've successfully avoided becoming one - this will not last forever I'm afraid <0> amphi so i take its installed now <4> Seveas: heh <9> christopher, only took me 1 year :P <5> <0> took me 7 years to get and start to put time into it <-- cool! <4> christopher: if dpkg completed without error, yeah <0> lol <5> hrm, wrong line... <5> <4> Dasnipa`: as in "information wants to be beer" ? ;) <-- THAT is cool :) <0> hey college got in the way people <0> i didnt have time to mess around with the computer like that <4> christopher: I find it better to put off the procrastination until nearer the time <10> I have one problem...when I log into my universities ssh server and I run matlab when I click enter nothing happens.. It seems like enter, backspace is disabled... <10> but when I log in from windows it works... <0> i even took a c++ programming cl*** to help me get into it <4> Seveas: someone's .sig on k5 IIRC, not my own sadly <7> does anyone know where i can get the graphic libraries for php? i tried imagick and php5-gd <5> php5-gd should work <0> ok so now i fluxbox.. i take it. that its better than enlightenment <11> providing you have php5 installed, not php4
<5> depends on what you mean by better <7> Seveas, well my script says call to undefined for imagecreate <1> jhons2, boot from install cd and you can get a functioning live linux going. However I am fuzzy on what you really have to do then. I am not sure if you must mount the ubuntu partition after making a directory to mount it in or simply go to a terminla and type "grub install fd0". Perhaps someone else could provide further info there...? <7> elkbuntu, yes i have php 5 installed <4> christopher: fluxbox is quite minimalist <3> nobody can help me ? <4> christopher: I use openbox <0> better than gnome that is seveas <4> christopher: which is similar <4> christopher: 'better' is in the eye of the beholder <0> ok another prob <5> amphi, and beauty is in the eye of the beerholder <12> hi I've finally installed ubuntu on my pc, but I'm sadly back on xp because I can't get my network connection to work (I'm on a nat, my card is a rtl8139). can you help me please? <4> Seveas: heh <0> i went thru ubuntu documentation and wiki <0> and i still cant get realplayer10GOLD.bin to install <2> navarone: thanks alot for your help! i found further info on http://www.linuxjournal.com/article/4622 <13> hi people , could any body please direct me to a web page that would help me install my lexmark Z611 in ubuntu ..thanks <14> christopher: I'd suggest not even bothering with it and just using mplayer with w32codecs <1> jhons2, good going...lol <1> jhons2, maybe easier to have something like a how to printed off since you will be net less for the duration <0> you guys dont mind the stupid questions do you? <14> ubotu: tell ipr about print <10> ?? <2> navarone: thanks again- you got me pointed there! <14> christopher: that's why we come here <15> question: i wanna upgrade to dapper or w/e it is, i have my /home dir on a seperate harddrive, can i get rid of ubuntu and install that without effecting my /home, but have dapper use it? <13> thanks jason <0> im excited to just be using this and learning all this stuff hah <0> ok this is really really basic <1> jhons2, just take your time...it isn't a big deal really...just a simple operation <16> motionblur > NAT meaning behing a Router ? <5> christopher, we live for stupid questions :) <0> directories... how do they go? <5> christopher, by foot <0> lol <14> I don't get the question or the answer... <0> i mean. im used to windows.. my documents. my shared files, my downloads, my pictures etc <4> christopher: you might find the 'intro to linux' book at tldp.org useful <14> ubotu: tell christopher about dirs <0> and of course the oh so famous program files directory which is where i dled everything to in windows <5> christopher, ah :) google for FHS (filesystem hierarchy standard) <4> christopher: /usr/bin <0> well <0> heres what i do know <1> christopher everything's me me me with you...;) <0> home directory is the main directory and that i should just stick with that <5> yes <17> can somebody tell me why do I get a firewall error in azureus if now firewall is enabled by default ? <0> but then the /etc /usr and /var are jus sitting there looking at me <10> what is the command to simulate enter? <10> like backspace is ctrl h <18> i just used wine to install Steam, but I can't figure out how to run Steam. it says use .wine/drive_c/Program Files/Steam/, but apparently that doesn't exist <4> christopher: you're using stuff in them all the time, unbeknownst to yourself <5> christopher, all programs are installed there :) <0> navarone... and im not an only child heh <1> nick01, I think iptables is enabled by default...isn't it? anyone? <18> anyone know where wine installs stuff to? <17> navarone, how do I get rid of it ? <5> Chris_Tucker, c:\Program Files (or even having c:\ and d:\) is an utterly broken concept <19> ah crap my udev is updateing... <0> ok so when i dl a program ... i should get used to installing them to /usr/bin? <19> why the heck am i upgrading to xorg7? <17> nick01@T72:~$ ps aux |grep iptables <17> nick01 7817 0.0 0.3 3796 756 pts/0 S+ 02:26 0:00 grep iptables <5> christopher, no <12> phbc50: yes <14> christopher: you should let the package manager do all that for you, all you do is ask it to install X <5> christopher, you should get used to not manually downloading :) <4> Seveas: as is having file extensions determine executability, and ... and ... <20> christopher: No, you should use apt-get instead and never do anything yourself, 'cause that would take effort and would be silly. <0> oh <17> navarone, ps aux doesn't report iptables <18> does anyone know where wine installs stuff to?
