<5> thanks mwe for ur info, i'll try that
<7> hi johnnn/mwe: i am on my other pc, installing ubuntu on my other machine...i have got to the partitioning stage, and i cant make a 5gig partition because its says its too small :P

<0> scifi: well 5GB is probably to small
<4> oh ok captine. I am sure its pretty easy to setup the Wifi, Feel free to ask any doubts
<7> mwe: johnnn recommend 5gig partition for ubuntu system, then another partition for home directory
<4> Try to resize the partition SCIFI .. so that You can install it easily
<3> !tell ruphin about wireless
<0> scifi: I'd go with just one partition and a swap partition
<2> nazeer2cul, as ar as i know, i have to install ndiswrapper. still gotto do that. problem is, i don't have internet connection at home. need wifi set up before monday, so that i can d/l from the airport
<8> joh6nn, you there? do i need to change something in the script or its good how it is right now?
<7> mwe: do i crate the swap partition after the main partition?
<4> oh i see.
<7> create*
<0> scifi: it doesn't matter which you make first
<2> mwe, any idea which file i need. guess it's the 13 meg one. will take 2 hours to d/l on my current connection. major slow
<9> Seveas: Did you see the output???
<7> mwe: its saying the minimum it can be is 51gig (20% of the 250gig drive) lol ^^
<4> are u using Yum Update? Captine.
<10> whats the latest version of ubuntu? is it hoary or warty?
<7> mwe: which is fine, but will i be able to make a 2nd partition after creating this one?
<11> Billy, urgh, broadcom card...
<11> Billy, http://wiki.ubuntu.com/HowToSetupNdiswrapper
<2> nazeer2cul, i'm in windows at the moment. don't have internet connection through ubuntu (modem not detected)
<11> Billy, or actually: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WifiDocs/Driver/Ndiswrapper
<2> nazeer2cul, trying to d/l the .deb files
<12> hi
<7> mwe: so make 1st partition 52gig, then a swap partition 50gig?
<9> Seveas: Thanks a lot :)
<0> scifi: captine I think it's 7.9 GB
<0> scifi: nono
<0> scifi: thats way to much swap
<13> 50 gigs is way too much for swap
<4> oh
<0> captine I think it's 7.9 MB
<7> mwe: but it wont let me make a partition smaller than 52gigs
<0> scifi: 1 GB of swap or so
<13> if you don't do modeling or some other memory intensive thing go low on swap
<0> scifi: it should :)
<2> mwe, thanks
<0> captine: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/l/linux-restricted-modules-2.6.12/xorg-driver-fglrx_6.8.0-8.16.20-0ubuntu16.1_i386.deb
<0> captine: I think

<16> bradley_: k3b or gnomebaker
<14> gnomefreak: thank you!
<0> scifi: it's not saying MEGA byte?
<17> hello

<19> gnomefreak: does your name mean that you like gnome or hate it?
<15> lol...
<20> loves it im sure..
<16> bradley_: your welcome
<2> mwe, thats what i'm getting, but the 64 bit one. Thanks again for all the help locating it :)
<7> mwe: no defo GB
<17> is there somebody can help me? i have a little probleme , i can't understand ?
<15> Can you burn VCDs with gnomebaker?
<16> i like gnome xfce flux black enlightenment
<0> captine: oh. you are aware that 32bit ubuntu might save you some trouble even on a 64bit pc?
<2> gnomefreak, what about a decent dvd ripper?
<19> gnomefreak: In that order? Or in reverse?
<21> jmoncayo: sorry, stepped out for a second. you don't need to change the script

<22> Hey, I'm running Gnome on dapper and i set the taskbar panel which is at the bottom by default to Top. It sits at the top just below the Applications panel, but when I reboot the computer and log back in the taskbar is above the applications panel and I have to set the taskbar to bottom and then top again to get it where i want it. Any suggestions on how to make it stay?
<8> joh6nn, it works for any battery
<0> captine: like dvds skipping and multimedia only half-working
<23> Yaiba, All the mindereaders are on break. You're going to have to state your problem if you want help. Unless I missed it that is.
<24> testing for encoding
<25> captine: dvdbackup
<2> mwe, I've been told that. What type of trouble?
<8> joh6nn, really cool script
<17> ok thx
<7> mwe: i just realised....this is for RE-Sizing the partition then the remaining space it will use for ubuntu
<2> brb
<0> scifi: heh
<7> mwe: think i need to make it 100 or so for windows, leaving remaining space for ubuntu
<26> Hello guys
<26> I need help
<0> scifi: how much do you want for ubuntu?
<27> ARGH!
<0> Justi1: then ask a question :)
<28> crowbar, talk about it in #ubuntu+1 thats the dapper channel
<7> mwe: i thought around 75-100gig
<27> I cannot delete a certain folder, even when I'm logged on as root. What do I do!
<22> oh, crazy. thank you ompaul
<7> mwe: maybe thats too much tho
<0> scifi: that's plenty and then a lot
<21> jmoncayo: so far as i know, it works for any battery. i'll be sure to tell my friend you like it; my friend wrote it for me
<29> hi
<0> scifi: if you don't wanna keep a lot of movies in ubuntu you probably don't need that much
<27> QUESTION: I cannot delete a certain folder, even when I'm logged on as root. What do I do!
<25> Justi1: rm -r "dir-name"
<8> joh6nn, ok tell him the script works really good
<0> scifi: 25GB or so would normally be more than enough
<7> mwe: ok if i tell it to resize it to 175gig, in theory that leaves 25gig for ubuntu...if that is indeed what it means
<0> scifi: I haven't used the resizer on the install cd. but i'd think so
<21> green_earz: you probably should have asked justi1 WHICH folder...
<7> mwe: gonna try it :O
<25> you that right
<21> green_earz: i've got $10 says he just rm'ed something important
<28> joh6nn, maybe he needed to do that anyway :-/
<21> ompaul: i think we all need to rm something important once. otherwise we'll never learn
<0> scifi: asuming 200GB is the actual size counted in 2^30 giga bytes
<0> scifi: 2^30 bit that is
<30> joh6nn, not if that something important had a backup somewhere off disk ;)
<7> mwe: ok sweet, the partition overview shows i have a 150gig partition formatted in ntfs, a 98.5gig primary partition in ext3 and a 1.5 logical swap partition, thats sounds ok
<25> joh6nn: i was thinking that he may have been have a problem with a dir that got a space in its name that why the " " hope he not killed is setup
<21> freakabcd: aw, making backups is cheating
<7> mwe: i cud always increase the ntfs in future
<28> green_earz, joh6nn freakabcd I have one thing to say before I declare this session for #ubuntu-offtopic that is \.
<0> scifi: maybe I don't know how easy resizing the ext partition is. I think it's easy with gparted
<21> green_earz: a good thought, but the way he logged off immediately after you told him that is suspicious, no?
<31> scifi it is generally recommened to have 2x the amount of swap as RAM
<7> aaa: that wud mean 3gig of ram :O
<31> other way around, unless you have 1.5G of RAM
<7> aaa: sorry misread read it, yeh i have 0.5gig of ram, so 1.5 gig swap partition is about right
<32> ok my sound will not work and xmms is locking up...and all started yesterday..but was working before
<33> What command should I run to diff two directories, listing what files exist in one but not the other?
<34> there are lots of dhcp problems on ubuntuforums.org... and not one of them seem to be solved!
<34> I, like everyone else, am getting the DHCP DISCOVER to 255.255.255.255.
<35> MHobbit: you could do that in perl :P
<31> MHobbit rsync -nav /dir1/ dir2/ (include the / and the -n is a "dry run")
<35> bah
<34> doesn't work though. I even told my gentoo dhcp server to allow port 67.
<35> that isn't perl ...
<33> AAA: Thanks.
<7> k its "writing file system to partition #2...."
<7> ^^
<31> MHobbit I misread the "not the other part" I guess I don't understand what you want to do ??
<34> is it normal that a dhcp client would 'broadcast to 255.255.255.255'? what does that really mean?
<31> shinichi it means it is looking 'everywhere' for a dhcp server
<32> ok can anyone help with this....xmms was working yesterday..and now the sound works outside xmms and all that but xmms will not play mp3 anymore..and when try to it locks up
<33> AAA: Nevermind, I think that'll work
<7> "installing base system"....gonna look for linux drivers for my adsl modem router while it installs
<10> hey guys
