<14> Hi I just installed ubuntu and when it loads my screen is all screwed up- all I see is a white and black cross hatch on the screen, But I do see my mouse as well. I have an ATI radeon 9200. Is there any way to fix this from Bash by starting in recovery mode?
<2> mwhite: Did you install one
<12> I want to see the Java Console to see if it has any errors but I can't find it
<4> jinho326, try this: ctl-alt-f1, that should give you a terminal to log into. Once you've logged in, type sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
<1> :(
<12> Java is already installed..I can do java -version and get 1.4.2
<13> Lycade, try http://www.linux.org/lessons/beginner/toc.html

<14> <4>: is there anything else I need to do after typing that in?

<12> nope
<19> building from source: configure, make, make install ...right?
<4> jinho326, there will be a bunch of questions, most of which you will just hit enter on.
<18> mwhite: the Java Console will be specific to your browser plugin
<12> so the default Java that came with Ubuntu isn't what I need?
<14> <4>: thank you nickrud, I'll give it a shot :-)
<2> mwhite: sunning setup.bin doesn'pront any info/errors to the terminal you run it from?
<12> no that is what is driving me crazy..no errors
<18> mwhite: which version of Java did you install exactly, and how did you install it?

<20> hell no
<6> question:why is it i get better sound in linux than i do in windows xp?
<4> prospero2005, xgl is not a good enough reason to upgrade
<23> had somebody used ebuntu ?
<24> prospero2005: Sure.. dapper is fairly stable.
