<0> ubuntu: you don't neet root, just type sudo
<1> liquidten2: yeah but doesnt work trust me i have the card, also the 5200 card sux too and thats on the same list for the 8*** series drivers
<2> thanks
<3> linux_galore: i have a 5200 and am running 8178 on 2.6.16.16, at perfect speeds to, or as perfect as i can with this card
<0> ubuntu: you are welcome
<4> when i install programs, like kaptain, where should i unpack the files?
<2> why my discs show as hdd5, hdd6, .. that is not hda5, hda6, ..?
<1> use a 8*** series nvidia driver with a 5200 card and its slow as snot, swap back to the older 76** or 71** driver and its quick as hell
<0> hi i have installed windows and need grub to add it to the boot menu?
<5> Kadran> did you install windows before or after ubuntu
<6> nickrud, well.. that didn't seem to help at all. on top of that the menu button to run thunderbird is broken now... but im sure thats easily fixed.. but the same problem occurs.. click on an email in the top window.. and the preview pane is showing something totally different.
<0> ubuntu: that's mean you have 4 ide device
<0> twysted: windows after kubuntu
<4> does anyone know where new programs should be unpacked?
<2> twysted, only ubuntu
<7> Kadran: update-grub?

<7> dudemanbro: What do you mean?
<5> Kadran> your suppose to install windows THEN ubuntu, but you can do a update-grub
<2> Kadran, all them are on the same partition
<5> ubuntu> change your damn nick i wasnt talking to you
<4> tonyyarusso, so i dld kaptain, and i was wondering where i should put it when i unpack it
<8> liquidten2 did you check the xorg file?
<4> tonyyarusso, like is there a folder where all this stuff is supposed to go?
<5> dudemanbro> is it a deb file?
<3> disturbed: i can't really guess what the error is based on that file. It looks OK from what i can see, so the only thing i can figure is that there was an error while installing the nvidia driver. You're going to have to reboot and memorize the error
<9> delmar, a sec
<7> dudemanbro: What type of file did you download? I'm not sure what you mean by unpack.
<4> twysted, no, .tar.gz
<0> twysted: i have done update grub the cat menu.lst but now windows there
<3> disturbed: wait, post /home/disturbed/hda1/var/log/Xorg.log
<4> tonyyarusso, sorry, im really new at this
<7> ubotu: tell dudemanbro about compile
<5> dudemanbro see if you can sudo apt-get install kaptain
<2> twysted, sorry
<8> liquidten2 k. hold on
<10> how do you make qt apps on Gnome look native?
<5> Kadran> k cool
<11> dudemanbro: There's an easier way... Just do, "sudo apt-get install kaptain" at the command line. That will install the one specifically compiled for Ubuntu.
<8> nothing there... ???
<7> dudemanbro: twysted's right. It's available. You can throw the .tar.gz away.
<12> this is going to seem like a really dumb question, but how do i switch my clock from military to 12 hour?
<4> ok
<0> ubuntu: the ??a, ??b, ??c, d?? are the name of devices, and 1,2,3,4,5,7,are the partitions
<3> ok...
<4> tonyyarusso, normally, where do these programs go?
<4> tonyyarusso, like which folders on my computer?
<13> Why doesn't abiword come with a grammar checker in Ubuntu?
<0> twysted: what do you mean?
<14> can someone tell me whether you have this library on your computer? libdbus-glib-1.so.2
<14> i have libdbus-glib-1.so.1
<14> i need libdbus-glib-1.so.2
<5> Kadran> you said windows is there now correct?
<3> disturbed: ok then, what IS in /home/disturbed/hda1/var/log ? do an ls /home/disturbed/hda1/var/log
<7> dudemanbro: Not just one place. /usr/bin, /usr/lib, and /etc all have important pieces.
<2> ubuntu@ubuntu:~$ ls /dev/hd*
<2> /dev/hdc /dev/hdd /dev/hdd1 /dev/hdd2 /dev/hdd5 /dev/hdd6 /dev/hdd7
<2> Kadran,
<0> twysted: no it is not in menu.lst :(
<15> PORDO: are you using breezy?
<5> Kadran> ah ok
<14> crimsun yeah.
<15> PORDO: it's in dapper, which means you need to dist-upgrade to dapper
<1> PORDO: dbus is version specific
<3> disturbed: there should be SOME Xorg related file in there, post whatever seems likely. (It could also be Xorg.0.log or something like that)
<14> crimsun dapper is out?
<4> tonyyarusso, thanks
<2> Kadran, that is ??d
<15> PORDO: ~3 weeks
<7> PORDO: Beta.
<5> Kadran> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/GrubHowto
<14> argh.
<8> liquidten2 there is xorg.0.log, and xorg.0.log.old
<0> ubuntu: i don't know but may be your harddisk is secondary master
<16> PORDO, released June 1st - beta release is out now
<17> hiya, heres my problem. im trying to install dapper on a pc which has a nvidia geforce xm4000 graphics card. nothing displays O_o this is using the desktop live cd. any ideas??
<12> anyone know how to change the clock from military to 12 hour?
<14> i think i accidentalyl installed .debs for tapioca for dapper. how could i remove the versions i installed?

<0> twysted: thanks i will check it out
<3> disturbed: post the /home/disturbed/hda1/var/log/xorg.0.log
<7> needlez: Right-click, preferences.
<1> Jasey: what version of the driver did you download
<8> liquidten2 ok, one sec.
<17> well none.
<16> needlez, right-click on the clock, select Preferences
<16> needlez, switch it from "24hr" to "12hr"
<17> oh wait a tick i have the linux drivers from the site
<18> 961331654666666666666666666666666665843186713
<15> PORDO: use synaptic/aptitude/apt-get to remove them
<1> Jasey: aaah this is the live cd
<18> PPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP
<17> yes
<0> ubuntu: i c that you have windows c: and d: linux root, swap and home and got a cdrom
<12> thank you :) i wasnt right clicking...i was left clicking and going into preferences. lol
<12> the simplest things are the things you dont think of
<19> tonyyarusso, darn they still using that kind of torture equipment? :)
<8> liquidten2 http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/13956 - there you are.
<7> needlez: Hehe, yeah.
<7> slackern: Yep. It's cheap.
<2> Kadran, correct
<7> slackern: And my government's all over torture anyway, so maybe it will make a comeback.
<3> (WW)Warning,couldn'topenmodulenvidia
<3> that's never good
<19> tonyyarusso, aye thats true, wish i had a phoneline to use when the regular isp goes down or something.
<13> tonyyarusso: While you're waiting for that upgrade, perhaps you could tell me how to get the Grammar Checker plugin for Abiword.
<20> good ol' Ubugtu
<8> liquidten2 yea' nothing I do is ever good.. my latest error was.. "Cannot complete task, too far in the future"... *rolls eyes*
<2> ok
<1> disturbed: sound like you didnt install the driver
<2> on live cd 5.04 , how can resize ntfs partition?
<2> is it possible?
<8> linux_galore knowing me, Probably not... >.<... did all that the forum dude man sir person said..
<15> ubuntu: ntfsresize
<12> oh, this may seem like a tricky question. and i dont even know if it is possible, but i have a microsoft multimedia keyboard (i can control winamp and stuff like volume, pause, play, stop, forward, and backwards in my playlist from my keyboard) does anyone know if i can use these features with linux?
<14> crimsun do you feel that dapper is stable enough to be usable right now? i know that's a vague question...
<7> Munchkinguy: Wish I could - OOo guy myself. I'll look around though.
<15> PORDO: yes
<3> disturbed: Ok, i can tell you how to REVERT what you previously did at least. just edit your /home/disturbed/hda1/etc/X11/xorg.conf and replace "nvidia" with "nv" and delete "load "glx""
<15> PORDO: for /many/ (not all) people
<3> so then you can at least boot into your other hard drive
<2> crimsun, sudo ntfsresize?
<21> needlez: IIRC, xev will give you the code that the keys do
<8> liquidten2 Ok, and that should fix the other boot though?
<16> needlez, you should be able to, yes
<7> PORDO: Yes, if you speak English or most Western languages. I think they're still putting work in on Asian ones. (?)
<3> yeah
<12> paradizelost, what?
<15> ubuntu: roughly, check the man page
<3> disturbed: If you edit the file inside hda1/etc/X11/xorg.conf, and save it, you will be able to boot back in to that hard drive
<22> Has anybody gotten E17 to run 'easily' on their system>?
<12> madpilot, would you know how?
<6> so thats it.... if I go afk and the cat jumps up on here and sits on the keyboard... ill get banned and kicked? ...damn cat. lol :P
<21> needlez: open a terminal, and run "xev"
<12> how do i run xev?
<22> delmar: xlock. :D
<21> then press the key, it will tell you the code for the button press and the button release
<21> OPEN AN XTERM
<21> a console of some sort
<6> ohzie, ah yes. good idea
<2> crimsun, i am newbie
<14> oh that's a bummer. i'm chinese and speaking terminated a galactic translator.
<15> ubuntu: then you might try gparted
<21> /ignore ubuntu
<2> crimsun, don't want my ntfs corrupt
<23> do you guys know what is a good dvd cpoy software
<1> does the easyubuntu script install the nvidia drivers or does only automatix do that
<12> paradizelost, how do i run xev (total newbie here)
<22> !E17
<21> needlez: open a console
<13> tonyyarusso: the "abiword-plugins" package doesn't seem to come with it
