Comments:

<0> slavik, it would also be different if the website told you the differences
<1> harry BIOS is spewing out the error message and probably because the mbr is not 'right' or no disk detected by the bios or improper hd pramaters in bios
<2> I need SCIM to work with Open office
<3> slavik: i tried to to disable it again, and tried not my DVDrom not connected to my computer and now i cant boot
<2> how do i?
<4> mmm, will want to try it at home where I have a decent graphics card
<2> can some one help
<4> they should have based it on gtk instead of qt but thats okay
<2> hello!!
<3> intelikey: what do you, that's to hard for me to understand. too tough, can you explain it
<5> it runs awesome here on a 6600GT
<4> yeah thats what I got at home
<6> hell all :)
<4> this box has some dodgy ati card in it
<7> I have a 6600GT card to
<6> sorry ...

<4> not even sure if opengl is overly supported
<7> Its alsome on every OS
<6> should have been hello :)
<8> hi all
<9> has anyone figured out how to get their USB drives correctly displayed on the desktop? I really want them as '257 gig volume' instead of 'usbdisk' :(
<8> that x includes problem persists!
<10> has anyone tested cedega on a fresh install of ubuntu 6.06?
<8> when I try to do ./configure in a theme package
<11> harry, it might mean that the MBR is messed up. the MBR is the initial part of an HDD which contains the code to boot an operating system
<8> it gives me the X Includes error...
<12> oni-dracula, it works.. but it wants xlibs.. thats fixable.
<4> oni-dracula, I believe it works fine
<6> cam someone help with a slight problem ...
<10> eh...I never encountered the xlibs error
<4> two mates are running WoW fine on it
<13> hello! someone know a way to join all the xUbuntus (ubuntu, kubuntu, edubuntu and xubuntu) in one DVD (live)?
<10> I'm having a problem with it saying OpenGL failed testing
<6> iv de installed totem ... and installed totem-xine
<4> yeah I've never heard of an xlibs error either? and one of them is to newbish to work around an error like that
<10> haven't tested a game yet...still trying to install WoW
<4> oni-dracula, yeah it's opengl testing method is crap
<4> ***ume that the games will work
<10> kay
<4> what you really need to test is glx-info|grep direct
<11> Luciano: good idea ... but I guess it would involve having all the Live CDs on the DVD and a custom grub configuration ...
<8> so
<4> and if that comes back with yes then you can play games :D
<8> does anyone have any idea?
<1> harry, i'm not sure i can break it down any more than that. get into the BIOS settings and make sure they are correct for the first hard disk drive. also you can 'dd if=/dev/hda of=file count=1 && less file and see if your mbr is blank or not. (but that is probably too indepth for you) that's where i'd start.
<11> eclypse: the theme package ...
<8> heres the exact error while attempting to do ./configure on the theme package...
<8> checking for X... configure: error: Can't find X includes. Please check your installation and add the correct paths!
<11> is it a real package or something you got from gnomelook.org?
<6> but when i click on the icon its loading and dissapearing again ... but if i have a dvd or open a song wqith it plays ???? so why wont it open up on its own
<11> ahh
<11> eclypse: you need the X dev packages
<14> !http cache cleaner
<15> ToHellWithGA: NO SPEAKE ENLISH! Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<8> what do I search for?
<11> xorg
<8> Adept isant as easy as snaptic
<14> anybody in here know why "http cache cleaner" pops up occasionally?
<11> and select packages that end in -dev or -headers
<1> harry i'll leave you alone so i don't confuse you any more. ;/
<13> slavik, I have contacted the autor of http://www.nautopia.net/archives/es/linux_distribuciones/custom/livecd_collection.php I dont know if can be done with something like that
<16> here's me trying to like Ubuntu again
<17> where can i get the kernel source
<12> ToHellWithGA, you runninh ktorrent or some other kde apps?
<11> Luciano: I am sure it can ...
<16> how to play a CD??
<6> cam someone help with a slight problem ...
<6> but when i click on the icon its loading and dissapearing again ... but if i have a dvd or open a song wqith it plays ???? so why wont it open up on its own
<14> Dr_Willis: ktorrent, yes
<16> Ubuntu 5.10
<11> Luciano: it is possible to have a single distro with all 3 desktops and just pick one :D
<1> nelisa give it up. just hate it like i do. it's much easer to use if you just admit you hate it and go on.
<12> ToHellWithGA, ive seen it pop up every so often as it cleans out its cache I think
<16> I don't hate it yet
<14> no way. an "http cache cleaner" cleans a cache?
<1> oh well you will

<16> it takes looong time for me to hate something
<18> So far I like Ubuntu.
<14> lol. thanks Dr_Willis. at least i know which app is calling it now
<19> i like ubuntu
<18> Still getting used to the "don't use root" thing. heh
<13> slavik: but the idea is to have a livedvd, where users can test them and "choose" what they like to install
<20> Hi all, I've been trying to install Ubuntu on two machines, both with 256 MB of RAM. It appears to freeze when the installer gets to the partitioner. If I do "top" before the installer, I see that the memory is already pretty filled up even before I start. I suspect that it just runs out of memory. Is there any way to have a text-based installer, similar to the one in Breezy, so that it actually works?
<14> i'm going to like ubuntu a little more once qemu is finished setting up
<1> gui user every one of ya
<21> lasindi: yes, it's called the alternate installer
<21> er, alternate cd
<22> lasindi, you need to download alternate
<16> but not CD Player, nor Totem would play my French cl*** CD
<23> ls
<11> Luciano: you can still give the user a choice
<22> ToHellWithGA, are you getting any problems with cpu usage w qemu+kqemu?
<6> iv de installed totem ... and installed totem-xine
<6> cam someone help with a slight problem ...
<16> and I need to practice :)
<6> but when i click on the icon its loading and dissapearing again ... but if i have a dvd or open a song wqith it plays ???? so why wont it open up on its own
<18> intelikey: I'm primarily a debian user, actually. I like the command line just fine.
<20> Hobbsee: does it produce exactly the same result (i.e. installation at the end) as the regular CD?
<21> lasindi: yep
<21> lasindi: it's just like the breezy cds
<14> lightstar: yeah but it's no worse than WINE
<20> Excellent, thanks
<24> hey guys. Lookin through the gnome wiki, trying to get programs to auto start on log-in
<14> and it's working fine so far (/me knocks on wood)
<11> X problem: when I start my laptop, I get the GDM screen. I log in and GNOME loads. Once it's done loading, it just restarts (X). I read that this is a kernel bug and I am not sure how to fix it. Only thing I did was upgrade from 15-21 kernel to the 15-23 kernel. It started doing it since. I have installed Dapper on my friend's laptop and on my work system and it doesn't do it ...
<24> but think I'm just not lookin in the right place? Any ideas?
<1> ColonelPanic001 didn't see you praising ubuntu.....
<25> I know this is a bit of an odd place to ask, but are there any ftp servers for Ubuntu that broadcast their existance via zeroconf?
<18> 23:50] <18> So far I like Ubuntu.
<18> hehe :)
<22> ToHellWithGA, mine's consuming almost 100% and i cant find a solution 4 it..havent tried wine in ages though
<25> Well, for Linux in general
<14> lightstar: i can't get sony's SonicStage running under WINE for the life of me
<14> i'd rather have qemu ride my processor like a pony than not have it work
<22> ToHellWithGA, the last time i tried WINE i couldnt get most stuff working..gave up on it and to qemu...luv it cept 4 the cpu usage
<14> i've been listening to the same few minidiscs for weeks now
<1> well i'm going to ditch this unwanted guest.
<12> minidisks - aint those like 8-track tapes? :P
<14> Dr_Willis: they're like beta tapes
<13> slavik: but making a distro with all the 3 desktops they have to install/uninstall all of them... my idea was to make them test the 3 desktop and choose wich one install, before test the 3 desktops
<19> i like a gui uh huh
<21> Dr_Willis: haha. i'm pleased to see that someone else actually knows what minidisks are
<14> had they caught on before mp3 had a foothold they'd be fine now
<19> minidisks eh
<26> Hello!
<18> Hi.
<3> intelikey: i got this error message
<12> Hobbsee, ive seen them.. and kept wondering why they are still around.. they are like the child-sony-dont-want-to-claim. :P
<3> intelikey: dd: opening `/dev/hda': Permission denied
<26> I'm having trouble booting into xubuntu...
<14> once mp3 was big sony stayed with proprietary compressed audio formats for the MD, effectively killing it except for die-hard fans like myself
<3> intelikey: is this the command: dd if=/dev/hda of=file count=1 && less file
<26> A couple of what I ***ume are error messages appear after the system attempts to "mount root file system"
<26> (I'm running off the live CD)
<12> I think sony was shooting itself in the foot way befor mp3's got popular. :P
<27> exit
<10> people shouldn't +m a 400 person chat room
<10> that's just wrong
<26> Anyone know how to fix something like that? :P
<26> Apparently
<26> not
<19> heh bratsche doesn't know how irc works
<10> it's ok
<10> he'll eventually put himself out of our misery by never coming back and killing himself
<28> eh, that's a bit excessive.
<29> oni-dracula, on Linux?
<29> o_O
<30> Oh god i forgot my question
