<0> set: come back in 18 months. <1> twb, I need to fix boot.ini <2> set, afaik its a bad idea to try to write to ntfs currently <3> How do I restart my sound server? <2> set, use the windows cd and do a repair <4> twb: you can probably do that somehow with the windows disk, although I don't know how <4> set I mean <1> Mordof, tried that <5> Okay I just added rewt_: add 'snd_atiixp' to /etc/modules as root. <3> Anyone? How do I restart my sound server? <6> sid: /etc/init.d/alsa-utils restart <1> Mordof, I know exactly what the error is... just need to change what partition it loads and it's fixed <7> GTX-: google is your friend: http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-104778.html <1> it's either that, or change the number of the windows partition <5> So if I reboot it should work fine, in theory? <2> set, then make a floppy that will boot up and edit the .ini file
<3> Florab, no file or directory <8> set, have a look at http://www.linux-watch.com/news/NS6659533347.html <8> set it may help. <0> sid: aptitude reinstall alsa-utils <1> reading now <9> Hia anyone awake to help me with some charset issue? <10> Hi every body!! <11> is setting up wireless difficult on just ubuntu or linux in general? <10> somebody here can help me!!?? <6> sid: might also be /etc/init.d/alsa restart on breezy (I'm on dapper right now) <0> puppet: only if you stand on your head and drink a bucket of air. <10> i got a doubt in ubuntu! <10> _:S <8> Angel_Dex, on free operating systems in general. <0> GuestUMme: no, speak up! <2> Angel_Dex, my friend had troubles in fc as well <5> Angel are you potty trained? <3> I did that, and still none <3> Im on Hoary <10> :( <8> Angel_Dex, that's because of legal issues and closed hardware. <0> Angel_Dex: the difficulty is crackhead hardware manufacturers. <9> twb: sure i can do that <11> Ok <9> twb: as long i get right on the local in irssi ;P <11> Many thanks my friends <11> I must leave <1> Wouldn't it be possible to change the numbers of the different partitions, then reconfigure grub and everything works, instead of changing the number of the partition within boot.ini ? <6> sid: judging from google this should work <10> somebody here may tell me what is the name of the aplication the it's in this page http://guias-ubuntu.ourproject.org/index.php?title=Imagen:Propiedades_del_interfaz.png?? <10> :S <2> set, changing partition numbers n stuff will screw with windows loading correctly afaik <3> Ive done a number of things ive found on google, nothing has worked <10> please... <2> set, thugh im not sure <1> Mordof, well. Guess what I did earlier? :P <2> doing stuff like that outside of windows tends to make things weird <1> So, I want to change it back <2> lol <2> you were the one to change it? <9> get strange in Irssi <12> any amarok users here? <0> Blame irssi. <13> anyone have much experience with using xkeycaps or xmodmap ? <9> but the problem is really that i cant generate other then UTF-8 locales <4> GuestUMme: looks like system > admin > networking > properties <3> Eh, screw it florad, ill just upgrade to Breezy <3> :D <9> dpkg-reconfigure just generate UTF-8 <0> HUX8 <10> yes I know nut i wanna install it in debian <0> @02AB2C9B5! <10> but i do not know is name <10> :s <10> :( <1> Mordof, I installed Linux first, then Windows. Windows is on partition 3. I reinstall Linux, make it only one partition, Windows turns into Partition 2 and won't boot because boot.ini tells Windows bootloader that Windows is located in partition 3. So either I change the numbers of the partitions or boot.ini <14> anyone could tell where i can find (K)ubuntu for a sun ? i've heard about this but i don't find it! <10> i've benn looking for it but i did not got it :( <15> anyone familiar with samba? <2> set, would be better to change boot.ini, do you have or are able to make a win98 bootdisk? <0> If you don't have enough machines to run windows on a dedicated box, you probably don't have the experience to set up a dual boot system properly.
<0> That's what I say, anyway. <8> set, use parted to resize your Linux partition and add a tiny extra partition. Then Windows will be on 3 again. <2> twb, why not <0> Mordof: why not what? <1> twb, you are completely right. I am the newbie and you are the master of everything. Yes, twb, you are my king. <2> ive only ever had 1 computer and i did dual boot perfectly <8> twb, that's nonsense. Not everybody lives in an affluent country. <0> Ot <1> soundray, problem is that Windows partition isn't the first one <2> its just a matter of which OS to install first <8> set, my suggestion still applies. <2> install windows, install linux. linux does everything, all OS's work fine <16> I want to organize my music colleciton. what is the bash line to organize by muscian? <17> How can I enable tv out? I have a nvidia card w/ svideo-out and on Ubuntu 5.10 <0> Mordof: well, in *theory*. <1> soundray, I tried that by installing Ubuntu. But Ubuntu partitioner just made the two linux partitions 1 and 3 <2> twb, its always worked for me.. <0> Maybe it's improved lately <18> what directory is the kernel located? <8> set, use parted to resize your Linux partition and add a tiny extra partition. Then Windows will be on 3 again. <8> set, did you read this? <19> just type "organize t e h musak!@$!@$#!" <1> I'll try it. thanks <0> My last dual boot system was OS X and Debian. <15> > <15> ? <2> twb, in that case.. i wouldnt know which to work with first, and would probably screw things up <2> ah! i wish i could find a guide to installing these stupid splash screens and login managers :S <16> Hmm interesting, amoraok organized the music for me. w00t <1> twb, fyi, I've been dual booting since 2001. Made one mistake. Not coming here to ask what mistake I did, coming here for advices on how to a) write to ntfs b) fix the partition table. What's up with the arrogance? <0> set: because I'm the greatest person in the world. <8> set, don't take the bait ;) <16> oh crap, my CD drive won't open o_O <16> guess I have to manually eject it <20> what's the sudo apt-get command thing to build all essentials <4> kyo: right click and go to eject <0> Maybe I should have said "experience to fix any cock-ups that arise" rather than simply "set up". <2> how do i set my splash screen? its just a jpg image <0> kyo: linux locks drives that are in use. <8> kyo, no, just do 'cd' in every open terminal and eject via the desktop icon. <0> kyo: cat /proc/mounts to see where it is mounted, then use umount to unmount it. <21> hi guys. I have ubuntu installed in 2 machines on my office. There is another linux server with samba installed, and it has many shared folders. Unfortunately, ubuntu machines does not see it. Whats wrong? <20> hey, can someone tell me the 'sudo apt-get' thing to build essentials? <16> hmm there, did it <8> twb, you are the greates person in the world. No need to correct yourself :) <1> twb, let me guess. unemployed, bitter on the world? guru in linux 'cause you ain't got nothing better to do? Bitter on the people that actually have better things to do than run around playing with their personal serverpark? <8> *greatest <0> soundray: being great doesn't mean being infallible. <8> set, please! <13> does anyone know how i can make alt+3 produce a hash sign? i'm having some trouble getting it to work <21> other machines with winXP can see the shared folder in linux server <13> xkeycaps says the keycode does produce a hash/pound sign - but it doesn't seem to work <0> set: actually, I get paid to make Linux distributions. <8> set, I want to help you. Once you're kickbanned, that won't be possible. <4> set, twb: take it somewhere else please <0> soundray: he ain't causin' no trouble. <0> As you wish. <17> anyone know how to enable svideo out with ubuntu 5.10? <1> soundray, I shrinked and made a new partition. ntfs partition is still 2 and the new is 4 <18> what directory is the kernel located? I need to know to install a program. <17> ie. enable 'clone' mode? <21> why cant I see other machines on my network? <8> set, did you shrink the first one? <1> yes <8> set, okay, sorry, I was wrong. <1> Ah. Now I know what to do. Don't worry. You've been of great help! :) <8> set, pity you p*ssed twb off. <1> soundray, I have to leave xchat to reboot into a live cd <8> set, okay, hope it works. <22> how can I optimise 5.10 to make it run as fast as possible... I'm low on resources. <1> soundray, he pissed himself off. Acting like an ***hole spawns ***hole actions towards yourself. <1> C'ya and thanks <13> anyone have any idea how to get my keyboard to produce hash/pound signs?? <4> learner_learner: try xfce instead of gnome, or maybe even something like fluxbox
