<0> im so proud :D
<1> ChrisD89, I have had that happen when I had a bad copy
<2> hi navarone
<2> good to see you again hee
<3> login@UbuntuGamma:~$ sudo apt-get remove amarok
<3> E: Could not get lock /var/lib/dpkg/lock - open (11 Resource temporarily unavailable)
<3> E: Unable to lock the administration directory (/var/lib/dpkg/), is another process using it?
<4> nandro: i've tried Ubuntu breezy, warty and kubuntu breezy
<5> darthbutcher: then you have synaptic package manager open, or the update tool.
<3> login@UbuntuGamma:~$ sudo apt-get remove amarok
<3> E: Type 'apt-get' is not known on line 36 in source list /etc/apt/sources.list
<3> E: The list of sources could not be read.
<6> BigDaddy: i was trying to autodetect your monitor rates to double check the ones you have in xorg.conf....but nnevermind. you can overwrite and try and restart X like you said now.
<7> resource unavailable
<1> ChrisD89, are you using the same disk ie. rewriteable?
<3> My sources are fuxx0red.

<5> darthbutcher: you messed up your sources.list, just like I said five minutes ago
<7> means somthing else is using it
<3> How do I fix it?
<7> like you have another terminal running
<7> it
<7> ir
<7> or
<4> nandro: no, about 10 different CDRs
<7> synaptic
<5> darthbutcher: sudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
<8> Can someone help with installing a new harddrive (2nd) ubuntu won't mount it no matter what I do to fstab
<5> darthbutcher: and find line 36
<1> ChrisD89, thats weird, I had that problem with a few dvd-rw's and finally got one to work
<5> darthbutcher: and notice it doesn't look anything like the rest of the lines.
<3> apt-get update
<1> ChrisD89, was very frustrating, especialy since straight debian worked fine
<9> brenner - I will have to close all open windows, so I will be back in a min
<3> Line 36: apt-get update
<6> BigDaddy: ok
<4> nandro: i can't get mandrake 10 to install either :S
<5> darthbutcher: delete it
<5> darthbutcher: not sure how you got that in there
<2> be back.. going to do just a default installation
<5> darthbutcher: did you echo it into the file, or use >> ? looks like it.
<10> Knowerrors, could you paste your current fstab in pastebin
<11> I'm on a newly installed system, nothing odd that I'm aware of in the install/config other than that it's a laptop (Acer Aspire 9500) and X won't start. My config is at http://nonexiste.net/~ralith/xorg.conf and my log is at http://nonexiste.net/~ralith/Xorg.0.log . The error, found in that log, that I think is at the heart of it is (EE) I810(0): No Video BIOS modes for chosen depth.
<1> ChrisD89, have you tried a minimal install and grab most of the stuff from the web? BTW, mandrake ****s in comparison as I tried it and suse also
<2> hey all
<3> # deb-src http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu breezy-security universe
<7> darth copy and paste your sources.list here http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/
<3> Now that is the last line.
<1> ChrisD89, have you tried regular debian net install?
<4> nandro: i've tried 'server' install
<4> nandro: i've not had the time, patience or bandwidth
<2> when I get back, can anyone in here. that has optimize there ubuntu system.. for high performance, partner up with me. and give me good advice of a list of all services that I can stop that I don't use or need.. plz
<10> ChrisD89, nandro is correct...mandrake can't compare to ubuntu
<4> lol
<7> someone post their list
<12> dumb question: Where are the settings for themes in KDE?
<2> nah
<7> so the dude can copy it
<3> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8619
<4> navarone: that's my point really, i suspect that there's a hardware problem but one i don't know how to diagnose
<5> tonyyarusso: KControlCenter, I think
<2> I was mad at mandrake so many times, and it was the first distribution I ever tried
<1> navarone, seems like manflakes wants you to pay for access to the servers for updates and such
<11> agreed; mandrake's no fun.
<2> dam slow rpm
<13> hi folks, i'm at my wits end trying to get amarok to play mp3's. every wiki, every page says 'just install libmad0 and gstreamer, then run gst-register-0.8, and it'll work
<2> base system :D
<2> hey Ralith
<1> mandrake used to be descent
<13> well, i've done that, and amaroq refuses to play mp3's. help?
<2> its commercial
<13> amarok, rather.
<2> just like red hat
<5> eidolon: no, that's not right.
<2> pffft.. ;)
<13> carpediem: oooo. do tell, please.
<5> eidolon: you need gstreamer-0.8-lame, or something like that
<10> nandro...I gave up at 9.2 when i hosed the partition table trying to update after getting my ehternet to work...lol

<12> carpediem: All right, looking...
<11> anyone here have much X configuration experience?
<3> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8619
<2> somewhat
<14> saslp***wd2: generic failure <-- Why do I get this error, trying to create a p***word for a new user, using saslp***wd2 -c -a slapd <username> ?
<11> Clint|: mind if I msg you the relevant info?
<8> navarone: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8620
<13> i don't see gstreamer-anything-lame in apt-cache search
<1> navarone, ever notice mandrake really embeds itself in there, cant even get it off by formatting with a floppy
<15> hello,Iam behind a proxy and i configured the proxy and everything is fine and I also can ping myself but I can't access the internet,am on win now.
<12> carpediem: You are correct, and I found it.
<5> eidolon: ah, yes, gstreamer0.8-mad
<13> *sigh* i have that.
<13> i think
<2> well.. I'm not an expert with linux and unix hardware configuration yet
<9> brenner - really dumb question. it won't let me change the read only properties of xorg.conf
<2> but thats what I aim at.. and security.. and development
<11> as far as I can tell it's not a hardware problem
<11> msg'ing
<6> Ralith: what's the problem?
<16> does anyone know how I'd go about getting my firefox 1.0.7 to play windows media player embedded junk?
<2> ah
<9> I can't overwrite
<10> Knowerrors, is this a dapper or breezy install?
<11> or I can use brenner :)
<6> BigDaddy: use sudo
<3> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/8605
<13> dpkg -l shows I have it already:
<13> ii gstreamer0.8-mad 0.8.11-6ubuntu1 MAD MPEG audio decoder plugin for GStreamer
<2> yeah.. he knows more with open source m8
<3> Is that source list ok?
<14> Hmm..
<2> I'm still studying all my books
<9> sudo then what? sudo file manager?
<5> eidolon: okay....first, can you play mp3s in totem and rhythmbox?
<13> i can play them in xmms....
<10> nandro...I think I used diskwipe to wipe the drive
<8> navarone: its breezy, and that fstab is original, not edited by me
<2> got so many books on linux, and unix, and even Debian 3.1 Bible. I so busy ;)
<13> i haven't tried anything else, does that help?
<11> hehe
<5> eidolon: no
<15> Why I can't access the internet from Ubuntu?
<13> okay, one moment.
<6> BigDaddy: sudo <editor> /etc/X11/xorg.conf
<2> ep hee
<17> SAAD3000: ubuntu is the internet
<5> eidolon: xmms doesn't use gstreamer, totem and rhythmbox do (and so does amarok by default on ubuntu)
<11> brenner: check your msg's
<2> seems like.. dhcp didn't go well?
<13> (i'm using KDE, btw, so rhythmbox is a gnome app, yah?)
<3> Anybody?
<15> ghoulee right.
<1> navarone, you have to, I dont know what it does, but its not like debian in the way it embeds itself in the drive
<6> Ralith: i'm not getting anything. are you registered?
<5> eidolon: yeah...if you don't have it installed, see if you have totem
<11> eck.
<2> debian is a deloper system
<10> Knowerrors, is the new drive in the machine and did you run the drives setup cd to partiton and format?
<13> i'd rather not install all of gnome (this is kubuntu dapper)
<11> I'm registered, but not auth'd
<1> eidolon, shouldnt matter really
<18> hi
<15> Iam behind a proxy and i configured the proxy and everything is fine and I also can ping myself but I can't access the internet,am on win now.
<13> totem is not installed either. :(
<5> eidolon: okay, then why not switch to using Arts
<2> I would think, anyone in here, that thinks like me as an open minded, vision.. uses that.. to build off. and make better distributions
<3> Oh.
<3> Nevermind.
<11> brenner: there, that should do it
<12> carpediem: On the other hand, that doesn't let me choose the them I downloaded...
<3> It is working now(sudo apt-get remove).
