<0> SAAD3000, not really...
<1> I never get to the choice
<0> mk500, did you choose to install grub?
<1> yes
<2> IXKoDiaKXI, use synergy ;)
<3> SAAD3000, what does ifconfig say?
<4> mk500: Odd, it works for me.
<1> during install, to saw that I had XP, and said it would install grub and that should be "fine"
<5> scam am on win now
<0> mk500, do you see "Grub loading Press "ESC" to select" or anything like that?
<6> klaxian: actually I've got the deb here, you want it?
<7> Hey, anybody heard of XPDE? Anyone use it?
<1> no, I don't.....right after bios stuff, I get the "error loading operating system" message
<0> tonyyarusso, i used it once. it was buggy, ugly and crap. :) also, hasnt been updated in 3 yrs
<8> tonyyarusso: sure - install xfce4 or xubuntu-desktop
<4> tonyyarusso: Hey, buddy.

<1> I installed off ubuntu 5.1 DVD
<9> Xenguy: i'm gonna try adding some hosts manually first
<5> scam I will go back there and see but by the way during the installation it asked me to set a userp***word but didn't asked me for a root p***word should i always use the same?
<8> Toma-: erm, xfce4
<0> mk500, looks like grub didnt load right.... did you install grub to MBR or the drive you installed on?
<6> klaxian: k
<1> MBR
<0> thoreauputic, he said xpde... the bastard child of windows xp :D
<3> SAAD3000, ubuntu uses sudo
<10> pepsi: what will synergy do?
<1> hmmm....I have a second drive in the machine......a normal IDE; I wonder if it could have put grub on there instead
<0> mk500, ok... thats odd :|
<1> maybe I should try booting off that drive in bios, huh?
<2> IXKoDiaKXI, let you copy and paste between computers
<0> mk500, could have...
<11> Hey
<0> mk500, its worth a shot! :)
<8> Toma-: ah so he did - my apologies, I misread :)
<12> hello guys. I used the 12er kerne ( breezy, selfebacked) to run wirelesslan with WPA on my intel pro wifi chipset ( ipw2200). Therfore i compiled ipw2200 and iee myself on installed the firmware and it works and working. Now iam switching to 15-4 to have suspend2, but i cannot get the ip2200 to connect to my WPA. Any tips ?
<0> thoreauputic, no prob :D
<11> Need no help tonight, just hanging out.
<4> Does anyone here use KX Docker
<1> thanks, I'm trying that now
<8> tonyyarusso: sorry I thought you wrote xfce ;-)
<13> ok i screwed up my xorg.conf, what can i do to get back into ubuntu :(
<7> thoreauputic: Understandable. Just stumbled across this thing.
<2> canofcoke, sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
<7> Toma-: Interesting.
<0> canofcoke, are you at a terminal?
<7> darthbutcher: Hey.
<5> scam alright thanks, I also have xp installed and it didn't automount the fat32 partitions is there a tool for that?
<8> tonyyarusso: the concept of XPDE is abhorent to me frankly :)
<4> tony: Sup?
<14> Hey, anyone on here that was helping me with Cedega before?
<13> well i try to boot, i see the login everything goes through and then this error box comes up and says xorg is corrupt
<13> then i log in, but not with a gui, and i can do commands there
<7> thoreauputic: My too for actual use, although it has some value in terms of running it in the presence of Windows users to see their reaction.
<7> darthbutcher: Eh, not too much.
<15> any laptop users? what takes care of the close lid event? i'd like it to just blank instead of prompting to unlock everytime i re-open.
<2> what the heck is XPDE?
<0> canofcoke, ok, run "sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg"
<11> brenner, it never does that on my laptop
<11> are you uding ubuntu, or kubuntu
<15> ubuntu
<7> pepsi: Apparently it's a window manager that tries to look like Windows XP.
<11> yeh, like I said
<16> hi, how do I go down to signle user mode in ubuntu? is it sudo init 1 ?
<7> pepsi: xpde.com
<17> IXKoDiaKXI:I have to go now. Perhaps someone here with more knowledge than I will step in to help you.
<11> tony what are you talking about
<11> what is a window manager that tries to look like winxp
<10> thanks anyways
<13> thank you toma!
<13> i will be back i hope :)
<0> canofcoke, np!
<1> yeah :-) I got grub.....and ubuntu works....now to see if XP will still boot
<7> Toma-: Download page since it only hasn't been updated for one year.
<12> __mikem: try microsoft.com
<12> __mikem: and buy it there
<13> ubuntu effed up mine haha, windows said it was missing hal.org
<5> I have xp installed and it didn't automount the fat32 partitions, is there a tool for that?

<0> mk500, winxp may not boot... but we can fix that easy
<13> lmao .dll**
<4> What is the command to delete a file?
<2> heh, thats not a bad idea really.. would probably make it really easy for windows people to get used to things
<18> ola
<0> SAAD3000, you sure its fat32 and not ntfs?
<4> sudo apt-remove ?
<8> !mountwindows
<19> Download and run http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/files/diskmounter to make your windows or mac partitions mount automatically. If you wish to set it up yourself by hand, read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutomaticallyMountMSWindowsPartitions
<7> __mikem: A window manager I stumbled across. Not for real Linux users, but good for countering one of the arguments Windows users have against switching.
<4> sudo apt-rmv
<5> Toma- my C is NTFS and the others are Fat32
<4> ?
<12> SAAD3000: man fstab
<0> pepsi, its horrible. just use KDE and get an xp theme
<18> hello
<11> wow, tony xpde looks like sh*t
<2> im at the point where i think id rather not have a fancy window manager though... im under the impression that xfce is like that, is that true or no?
<4> nevermind
<4> I got it.
<20> can anyone know why i've got this error message everytime i launch the synaptic package manager? W: Couldn't stat source package list http://us.archive.ubuntu.com breezy/main Packages (/var/lib/apt/lists/us.archive.ubuntu.com_ubuntu_dists_breezy_main_binary-i386_Packages) - stat (2 No such file or directory)
<21> allan__, means repos server is down for some reason
<8> pepsi: xfce4 is a desktop - but leaner and quicker than gnome
<15> allan__: means your apt cache has been deleted, update
<11> I like to use KDE however, the way the kubuntu package is set up, its next to imposible to customize it, not to mention, if you install it on a system that is also running gnome, half the programs don't work for some reason
<22> allan__: hit the reload button (in synaptic) and see if that fixes it
<5> Toma- why it doesn't read NTFS partitions?
<8> pepsi: have a look at http://xwinman.org
<0> SAAD3000, because ntfs is evil >:)
<5> cool :>
<12> SAAD3000: it can read, but writing is not supported
<12> hello guys. I used the 12er kerne ( breezy, selfebacked) to run wirelesslan with WPA on my intel pro wifi chipset ( ipw2200). Therfore i compiled ipw2200 and iee myself on installed the firmware and it works and working. Now iam switching to 15-4 to have suspend2, but i cannot get the ip2200 to connect to my WPA. Any tips ?
<11> wel we are on the topic of kde and other desktops, did you hear that the next version of mepis is going to be ubuntu based, now ubuntu can truely say it has its own dirivitives
<5> xored If i want to emulate a game in the NTFS partition would it do that?
<11> (actually it could for a while but MEPIS is a big name)
<0> SAAD3000, ntfs is a dangerous filesystem that isnt fully supported yet in ubuntu
<12> SAAD3000: do you want to run a w32 game ? no you cannot run games on a read only partition
<14> Tonyyarusso: Hey, I was on here Saturday and Sunday askin for help installin Cedega. Just thought I'd let ya know, I've got it figured out, but I also found an unofficial Ubuntu guide site that has a cedega installer tutorial. Don't know how effective it is, since I haven't read it. :S
<8> __mikem: is that confirmed? I thought it was just a rumour...
<11> YEs it is
<5> xored oke thanx
<11> It will happen
<8> ah interesting
<4> Hey, __mikem.
<12> Toma-: its not dangerous, its just not free..
<11> HEllo, took you long enough to notice me
<5> Toma- thanx gtg check the ifconfig
<23> oops okay yeah lol
<7> Phelan: Good to know.
<23> me doing that custom file system for ubuntu, changed some things.. took out the Graphical System Start up Services
<24> attempting to write to it however is dangerous and not something you should try, SAAD3000 ;)
<0> xored, yeh, and hence dangerous, because its not fully implimented :D meaning bugs will make filesystem go kaboom!
<25> "ALERT! /dev/hda3 does not exist. Dropping to a shell!"
<25> :(
<14> Tony: I know there were a couple other people askin about it. I might start frequenting here more to learn stuff, so maybe I can offer help on the subject of cedega if it comes up again. ^^
<25> Is that a udev or a kernel problem?
<26> jchillerup: did you switch kernels recently? happened to me too
<27> what is the executable for openoffice 2 ?
<25> carpediem, yeah, I updated to dapper yesterday
<7> Toma-: Do you have a recommendation for an XP theme for KDE to fool my friends with?
<26> jchillerup: If I pick a previous kernel from the boot menu, the problem goes away
<21> jchillerup, try "fdisk -l" in terminal and paste output to pastebin
<25> I tried that
<23> questino
<0> tonyyarusso, theres a bunch of full packages at kde-look.org
<23> you don't need the OSD plugin for xmms do ya
<23> An XMMS plugin which displays volume and track information like
<23> on-screen displays on TVs and monitors.
<25> But that kernel won't load X
<8> vladuz976: try oo <tab> <tab> ;)
<25> And navarone, moment
<20> thank you
<7> Toma-: Any one better than the others?
