<2> yipe, you;re good
<5> PHEW!
<2> :-P
<8> marcky, ur wireless modem attached to Ubuntu as well? did the install recognize it?
<10> yup
<10> that step works
<3> menisk: google will know where to find it
<5> so, um.... how do you do that dpkg command again?
<0> cafuego: any ideas what to do with this error msg http://pastebin.com/658835
<8> marcky, what wireless modem?
<2> yipe which one?
<10> it gets through the network hardware bit
<10> alcatel
<3> yipe: man dpkg perhaps
<10> but it's hooked up through the ethernet card
<5> like, I have a .deb package on my Hard Drive and I want to install that program
<11> heyjoe2: Same thing again, you're on the wrong directory.

<10> but hey jramsey, I read in a few places that the network configuration only works the second time, I just don't know how to open a terminal and retry
<3> tonyyarusso: no idea, I've only run smartctl on ide drives
<9> amphi: Okay.
<2> How do I take right justtification off my text input box in mIRC?
<13> is there a default development package that will install make, all the requisit GNU compilers, etc.???
<2> It just happened?

<13> Ahh, thx d00d
<2> SO I installed KDE on my breezy ubuntu. When I went to sessions and chose gnome, it just kept flashing and never loaded. So I ran the uninstall command for kubuntu-desktop and tried reinstalling gnome. It is still flashing....Any way I can fix this? I tried recovery mode but it only flashed too.
<1> the sbm didnt work
<10> what's the system networking applet?
<3> yipe: man dpkg would have told you
<11> tonyyarusso: Any chance you've got a serial ata drive? They may or may not be supported by smartctl.
<8> marcky, System => Administration => Networking
<13> gotta close xwindows, i might be make for more
<12> amphi: green_earz When I run hdparm I get this: HDIO_GETGEO failed: Inappropriate ioctl for device
<8> diego, try gcc -v and see what version

<5> I was looking at it but it was all in jargon
<9> cafuego: The actual drive is IDE, with an s-whatever controller.
<5> man pages are not helpful to newbies
<3> tonynewbie: what is the command you typed? does hdparm -i /dev/whatever work?
<10> wait, there's no menu's yet, there's no UI yet, this is at the beginning of the Ubuntu installation
<8> man pages are very helpful
<9> amphi: Haven't tried anything yet, just reading the man.
<5> but not to newbs
<0> cafuego: what should i do? cd Desktop?
<9> bah
<9> Dangit
<11> heyjoe2: yep
<8> i disagree ... the journey of discovery is worth the time
<15> Question, now
<3> jramsey: ;)
<5> especially when they need one tiny bit of info that's buried 6 pages deep into it and has to be ***embled from parts
<7> I am trying to get access to a shared folder on my other machine, which has the same login and p***word as I am using on this machine. When I go to Places>Network Servers, an authentication box comes up asking for username, domain and p***word. When I enter them, and click connect, it is always unsuccessful, and the same box comes up again. Can anyone please help me with this?
<10> wait, there's no menu's yet, there's no UI yet, this is at the beginning of the Ubuntu installation
<15> I tried to grab xvncviewer, but it says it's already installed. What's the dealio? I can't seem to find any vnc software
<10> see my problem jramsey?
<3> yipe: true - man pages are more reference than tutorial - man mencoder is a particular favourite of mine
<12> amphi: I did it without the -i. When I use the -i, it gives me different info.
<8> marcky, u mean the install isnt even done? oopsie
<16> hey guys, is there anyway i can get the alsaconf command in breezy ?

<10> it just started
<0> cafuego: ok great, now ive got a deb on my desktop. so do i do sudo dpkg -i limewire-free_4.11.0-1_i386.deb ?
<15> Repositories? Not that I know of!
<10> I get through the hardware dectection
<10> and the network hardware detection
<3> tonynewbie: -I is more helpfule than -i
<14> heyjoe2: yup
<2> that's why you cant find a vnc package lol
<10> then it starts configuring the network (dhcp)

<10> I wouln't know how to get past it
<8> marcky, how is wireless modem attached, usb?
<4> jramsey, gcc versin 4.0.2 20050808 (prerelease) (Ubuntu 4.0.1-4ubuntu9)
