<0> steveire, ext3 is good
<1> steveire: good ol' ext3 is fine
<2> rab: it's going to http://24.154.232.113:8008/errors/
<3> steveire, unless you have some special requirements defaults are good
<4> yea
<5> cool. Would fat work just as well?
<3> steveire, no
<1> steveire: no!
<4> _jason, you got it it?
<5> hehe
<6> steveire: no. fat does not have "permissions"
<1> steveire: fat is rubbish
<2> rab: 404 though
<7> what is the command to get into the file manager as a root
<4> _jason, I'm hosting it off my pc
<3> thoreauputic, don't insult rubbish :)

<8> wow
<1> ompaul: haha :)
<5> Ah. That explains why I couldn't play music off my fat32 partition.
<5> I think...
<9> |Sivik|: u mean nautilus
<10> nny: heh
<11> steveire: ext3 is fine, but i usually prefer reiserfs
<7> HIGH-FREQ, yes
<6> you finally made you hat ompaul :)
<8> asus aj6c... not loving alot of stuff for me right now
<5> What about vfat? I thought that was lixux catch-all
<7> HIGH-FREQ, i never can remember that bloody command
<3> steveire, no it does not, you most likely do not have codecs
<12> :O
<11> vfat ~ fat32
<3> !codecs
<8> even pcmcia/wireless is acting up
<13> Binary only codecs (such as w32codecs) can be downloaded from plf or cipherfunk, see !easysource for details on these repositories
<12> I'm unbanned !
<10> steveire: vfat is t3h 3vi1
<14> !java
<13> To install Java/Sun Java see Java on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats and also see !javadebs
<2> steveire: fat doesn't allow for linux to use permissions correctly
<11> !vfat
<13> Download and run http://www.ubuntulinux.nl/files/diskmounter to make your windows or mac partitions mount automatically. If you wish to set it up yourself by hand, read: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/AutomaticallyMountMSWindowsPartitions
<9> |Sivik|: should be like sudo -s nautilus? maybe...
<6> steveire: vfat = fat32
<5> crystal clear now folks. Thanks.
<8> so yeah, speaking of fat32, is that the best way for sharing storage for a dual boot right now?
<7> /usr/bin/nautilus: /usr/bin/nautilus: cannot execute binary file
<12> nny, pretty much
<1> nny: sadly yes
<11> nny: you could get the ext2 driver for windows
<2> rab: however if I get rid of the errors/ it takes me to your homepage
<6> nny: you can do that. but there is also ext drivers for win
<8> paradizelost: hows that work?
<8> is it better?
<5> nny, that's what I'm currently doing, but I understand you can make windows read etx...
<5> ext*
<0> nny, the ext2 driver for windows works perfectly
<1> paradizelost: i hear scary things about the ext2 driver for windows...
<0> it just shows it as another drive
<11> nny: i haven't set it up myself, but a buddy had it working nicely
<7> HIGH-FREQ, that wasn't right
<8> rock on i'll do that for sotrage
<0> it's just point and click, works perfectly
<9> hmm..ya i just checked it
<15> I've had pretty good luck using the ext driver in windows, except it places a RECYCLED folder on each partition
<8> now i just need to figure out why this install is fighting me on networking
<7> HIGH-FREQ, its without the -s
<4> _jason, oh yeah i deleted it this morning, h/o
<2> rab: and error without the s takes me to a listing of bot.pl and perl.png
<11> i think i's caled e2fs
<9> aah
<15> which is matched by a .TRASH-$user on each fat32 partition, so it balances ;)
<16> ompaul: hey there
<1> slowing down now
<4> _jason, you it's up
<1> oops
<4> _jason, thats the errors

<17> Having problems here. ALSA does not work correctly, but OSS does. However audio in Flash does not work with OSS enabled. How can I get that to work?
<2> rab: should your code read Nest::IRC or Net::pl??
<1> wrong window
<3> mako, got about 2 minutes?
<8> why would this dapper install have wifi0/wlan0 listed as interfaces, but on my other laptop (breezy) it shows as eth0?
<8> er eth1
<16> ompaul: sure
<11> nny: the way the driver makes it show
<8> these ornioco cards work fine on my laptop, but are acting trippy on the other one
<11> nny: mine shows as eth0
<8> hermes chipsetr
<8> hmm
<18> When i am using fglrx, and using the vidix video driver in a videoplayer like xine or mplayer, there is only a pink/green screen where the image should be on my tv. I am using tv-out, and where the movie should be, there is only a pink or green screen. It works with the vesa driver for X tough.
<3> mako, can I give you a bell or do you want to stay on irc?
<19> ok... i cant get my laptop to find my dlink airepluss dwl-g650+
<11> nny: but for the dapper issues, i'd ask in #ubuntu+1
<4> _jason, wow all that for a typo o.O
<2> rab: :)
<4> _jason thanks anyways
<8> thanks
<19> anyone got any ideas ?
<20> where's the trashcan in ubuntu if theres any?
<20> :E
<11> Old: icon in the bottom right corner
<11> in gnom
<11> gnome
<6> Larsson-Sweden: probably a kernel driver bug. had the same prob with my non-ati card. I don't know the fglrx drivers but I would try a different kernel first of all
<11> Larsson-Sweden: have you tried the ati control panel and changed the settings for the tv?
<21> Old: /home/usrname/.trash iirc
<2> Old, gnomefreak: capital T, .Trash
<22> anyone running dapper and FOSS ati driver care to check if EXA is working? it's not for me.
<21> _jason: ty soryr
<11> ryanpg: try in #ubuntu+1
<23> ls
<21> s/soryr/sorry
<22> paradizelost, ty
<1> daryl_: command not found ;-)
<18> Jowi, i've had this problem for a long time. I have changed kernels several times.
<11> !ls
<13> hmm... ls is the command used to LiSt the contents of a directory in Linux.
<18> paradizelost, yes. No luck.
<24> does anyone know how to mount an ntfs in dapper with full permissions? i was able to mount one with permissions 500, but i can't figure out a+rwx...
<21> sarixe: try #ubuntu+!
<11> sarixe: try in #ubuntu+1
<24> k
<24> thanks
<21> #ubuntu+1 even
<1> sarixe: you can't write to ntfs
<24> ...
<24> k
<11> it can be done, not safely
<6> Larsson-Sweden: ah. that's crap. how about turning off framebuffer in grub? (add "vga=normal")
<24> well don't you think that after about 5 years of ntfs, somebody would have come up with linux compatability for it?
<15> can you create new files in NTFS yet with the unsafe writing ability, or are you still limited to doing equivilant overwrites?
<18> Jowi, can that make a diff? Im running the videos in X, and it works with vesa.
<1> sarixe: they would have if MS had given out the specs
<11> sarixe: it's due to NTFS being a M$ product and them not releasing the specs for it
<24> i see
<10> Larsson-Sweden: any reason not to use the xv driver?
<11> sarixe: as i said, it can be done, just not safely, there is a fairly high risk of data corruption
<1> sarixe: complain to the chair throwing champion
<1> ;)
<11> DEVELOPERS!DEVELOPERS!DEVELOPERS!DEVELOPERS!DEVELOPERS!
<11> :D
<10> heh
<1> mokey dancer!
<2> ha
<1> *monkey dancer!
<6> Larsson-Sweden: it can. as I said, my kernel drivers + xorg driver combo had wierd things going on for awhile
<10> did Flying Chair Linux ever get done?
<18> amphi, mplayer can't find that driver.
<1> paradizelost: you could, if he has any
