<3> Calgar, lol, ok; but be warned it has a lot of "extra" repositories :)
<4> karhuton, well I don't know if you can sort of boot from cd and make it believe it's in the hdd..
<2> similar to the CTRL click in windows

<9> samuli: EU does not install on run
<10> how can i find out what video card I have?
<8> anyone managed to install easyubuntu?
<14> ubuntu_: open your box and look?
<4> needlez, I don't think there's anything as a package.. gtk 2.x is the controls, icons are icons and metacity is for the window decorations.
<1> ubuntu_: open the side of your computer
<15> hi i have updated ubuntu and since then I have no X windows. It says some error messages with "Unresolved symbols". Doing dpkt-reconfigure xserver-xorg didnt solve this problem. How can i get back the Xwindows?
<12> tried to install new version
<16> Dapper b2 doesn't come with LILO?
<9> Abountu: its a bug
<10> Calgar, Flannel its a laptop you insensitive clods
<1> heh
<14> ubuntu_: you didn't specify that, now did you.
<15> im using breezy
<17> after installing "server" minimal installation, which package should i apt-get to get the minimal gnome gui?
<11> what software do you recommend to copy dvds
<3> Calgar, put that as your /etc/apt/sources.list (if you're sure you want to :)
<10> Flannel, no i didn't
<14> Karhuton: it does, but you have to use expert install to install it.
<10> Flannel, so do you have any other suggestions?
<8> kbrooks, any known fix?
<4> needlez, to install them you just download the tarballs (like rar's or zip-packages) and from the desktop move them to the theme-manager window.
<18> how do i set up vnc server so i can wiew my desktop if i have a dm such as xfce?
<16> Flannel: I'm running the normal install and interupted the Grub installation. How can I install lilo instead, without re-running the whole installation?
<13> samuli: hmm this all seems confusing. i'm sure i'll figure it out though
<19> ubuntu_: lspci and/or lshw

<20> I keep getting this problem with firefox, everytime I go to save a file under my user account it says /tmp/mi2bd8n7.exe could not be saved because you do not have permission to change the contents of that folder
<9> Abountu: yes
<4> needlez, it's very easy indeed :)
<4> just ask for help when you're at that point.
<9> Abountu: go into easyubuntu/trunk/detect.py
<13> samuli: well this seems like something i should do once i have ubuntu installed, for now, im not going to worry about it
<9> Abountu: Find "def replace(confdir):"
<15> or is there anyway to rollback a previous upgradation of ubuntu? or Can I re-install ubuntu without loosing data?
<17> after installing "server" minimal installation, which package should i apt-get to get the minimal gnome gui?
<9> Abountu: then find "for line in sourceslist:"
<11> does anybody know what to use to copy dvds
<10> _jason, i did it says "unknown ATI"
<14> ubuntu_: you might try googling for your laptop, since you haven't changed it.
<10> Flannel, this laptop comes with various video cards depending on initial config
<9> Abountu: on the blank space before that line, add "repos_URI = ''"
<18> how would i set up vncserver to use my computer thathas a dm such as efce?
<1> uh, how do i open sources.list not in read only?
<18> xfce
<19> ubuntu_: what brand?
<21> tonygeorge, no real way to rollback; if you save everything under /home/tonygeorge you'll keep your data
<9> Abountu: save and close the file
<10> _jason, dell
<9> Abountu: rerun easyubuntu.py
<22> Hello does anyone know much about archiving?
<10> Mercutio150, man tar?
<19> ubuntu_: you have a service tag somewhere on the computer, login to the dell support site and it will tell you I think, otherwise call dell and they can tell you
<15> nickrud: yes i did save everything under that directory. but will it be there if I re-install ubuntu on the same partition?
<10> _jason, k
<22> but is that going to put into multiple packets
<21> tonygeorge, no, you'll need to reload that onto the hard drive. You can avoid this for next time by making /home it's own partition
<1> how do i open sources.list as writable? please
<22> I have files bigger than 4G
<23> ubuntu: you might be able to find out by following the instructions on this page http://kmuto.jp/debian/hcl/
<21> Calgar, gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list in a terminal
<23> ubuntu_: ^^^
<24> anyone here with knowledge on dvb....can not scan "failed to open '/dev/dvb/adapter0/fontend0'
<25> Calgar: gksudo gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
<26> hi.. is the mono package in ubuntu complete ?
<8> kbrooks: sorry but I couldn't find "for line in sourceslist:" I couldn't find sourcelist neither
<26> i can not find glib-sharp or gtk-sharp
<25> Calgar: if that doesnt work try gksudo "gedit /etc/apt/sources.list
<27> Hey. Could someone help me with a possible compatibility problem with a new hard drive?
<25> "
<28> how do i set up vnc on xubuntu
<27> I'm running an old Pentium III PC and am planning to buy/install a 250gb hard drive which is on sale. However, I've heard that there can be problems with an old BIOS and a hard drive above 137gb. I know there is a utility from Intel, called the Application Accelerator, which can let me access the full 250gb even if my BIOS does not support it. Unfortunately the utility is only offered for Windows, so there is no Linux support.
<8> kbrooks: there is "source.list" though
<29> hehe... I guess there's an apt-get for windows, called win-get. funny.. but pretty useful. http://windows-get.sourceforge.net/
<27> The utility would work for me right now, since I am still running Windows XP. However, I was planning on installing Drapper Drake when it is released on June 1st. Does anyone know if a similar utility is available for Linux or if the drive might work, even with an old BIOS, as long as each partition is below 137gb?
<15> nickrud: ok, thats too bad. unfortunately i didnt make /home a seperate partition. :-( Any chance that I can only reinstall the x windows? I have the original installation CDs
<23> ubotu, tell peanutbutter7836 about vnc
<9> Abountu: pm me
<30> Wat will run lighter on my system (AMD Athlon XP 1700+, 256mb RAM), GNOME or KDE?
<21> tonygeorge, oh, X, that's one of the big reasons downgrading can be harsh ;(
<31> ChoboMog: i've found that a lot of the time, the linux kernel can see the data even if the bios doesn't
<25> Sputnik_NL: gnome
<25> Sputnik_NL: xfce ;)
<30> gnomefreak: how usable is xfce?
<15> nickrud: Sorry I didnt get you. What do you mean?
<32> Sputnik_NLbarely...
<33> I'm trying to compile subcommander from source and I'm getting an error in what looks like a standard include. Source and error here: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/13924 Anyone know what the problem might be?
<25> Sputnik_NL: what do you mean usable?
<25> Sputnik_NL: i can do anything in xfce that i can do in anyother desktop
<30> gnomefreak: well how it preforms in every day use, so stability, ease-of-use
<16> Flannel: can I boot the system on the hard drive via the installation cd, with something like boot: linux /dev/sda2 (if the default image is 'linux') ?
<30> gnomefreak: I read you
<16> *linux root=/dev/sda2
<1> gnomefreak, i got this : (gedit:8982): GnomeUI-WARNING **: While connecting to session manager:
<1> Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed.
<21> tonygeorge, did you do a breezy to dapper upgrade? Why do you believe you need to roll back X anyway?
<25> Sputnik_NL: it works great as everyday use but for ease of use i find it very easy but thats me
<25> Calgar: it still opened right?
<1> yeah, but nothing was in it
<1> or, is there supposed to be nothing in there?
<25> Calgar: run gksudo "gedit /etc/apt/sources.list"
