<0> "Please file a bug" <0> ...when playing DVD with VLC <1> pez: yeah mplayer can dump a stream to a file <2> no i didn't <3> can i do with Xine as i removed MPlayer as it plays my DVDs really jerky and choppy <2> and its a cd <4> Hi! where Can I find kwifi to install on my ubuntu? <1> pez: if you watching a stream via a browser the file will be cached in the browsers tmp folder <5> i'm trying to get gnomba working, but if i double click on a pc to see the shares it asks me for a username and p***word, but wen i try to login with anonymous or guest it doesnt work, a username which has a account on the windows pc doesnt work, too, any ideas? <2> are you shure its a bad cd <6> I think there is a boot option to check the files on the CD .. boot into the help menu and look for it .. <7> how do i exclude a package from aptitude or apt-get? <7> i am getting errors on gnome file roller shared dependency with gnome ico themes <6> No - might also be a bad (dirty) drive .. if you have a disk cleaner, might be worthwhile to run it .. <2> could it be because I have a fat32 partition on my drive <3> what's the address of my browser's (firefox) tmp folder?
<2> I just reformatted the hard drive <6> if that doesn't work, I suggest you re-download and re-burn the ISO .. I'm in the middle of doing that myself with kubuntu <1> pez: hmm not sure might be either under ~/./tmp or ~/./mozilla/firefox/ <8> any of you has managed to run sun's JMF for JAVA on ubuntu? <2> should I not have a partition on my drive <9> Hey guys, Nautilus is not opening (it attempts to but fails - no error msg), I also tried right mouse clicking the trash icon to empty it but it does not succeed. Any ideas? <1> BockBilbo: http://easyubuntu.freecontrib.org/ <10> i need to write a program in lisp... can you please suggest me an editor for gnome that does auto indenting/syntax hilight for lisp? No, I don't like (x)emacs.... :-) <8> linux_galore, im talking about JMF, not java itself <6> I don't think that will make any difference, but I'm not expert on ubuntu <11> heya... does wine work in ubuntu or is there something else to run windows apps? <9> WINE works. <11> is there anything better? <6> not open source <12> Do you know when comes Novell's famous Linux Desktop 10 out? <11> ahh <11> thanks <13> ryness: will you be gaming? <0> VLC won't play DVDs. <0> But gxine will. <0> Duh? <14> ryness: there is also qemu <11> hybrid: i'm thinking about it... wanted to test it out. <2> so you say check the files with the help before the installation <6> yes <2> o <11> madmike, i'll checkout qemu thz <11> thx* <13> ryness: well cadega is better for gaming, and it can be compiled from source for free <15> Hi, I'm a newb, wants to get started with ubuntu. Current setup is C: 10GB With XP and D: 70GB Stuff with 13GB available. Both are NTFS and the D drive have at least 7 GB of free unoccupied space at the very end of the drive. How do I go forward to install Ubuntu on a new partition? <14> ryness: qemu won't support 3d acceleration <14> ryness: go with wine first <13> Trip348: do you wish to dualboot? <16> Trip348, you got 1 hard drive? or is D: its own hard drive? <15> yesw <15> One drive <12> Do you know when comes Novell's famous Linux Desktop 10 out? <17> Trip348 the 7GB free space is enough if you want <15> Laptop with one 80GB <15> god <15> good <16> :) <16> i had a laptop with a uber-slow 100gb hd... once.. <15> Can the ubuntu install resize the D partition (NTFS) <16> Trip348, it is wise to backup all imporntant stuff first. <17> Trip348 yeah if necessary <15> It is, all my music docs and more is on the D drive <17> Trip348 it will want to break the 7gigs up into two partitions.. <17> Trip348 one partition for the system and one for a swap partition <15> what does the swap do? <1> anyway time for bed <17> Trip348 sort of like the swap file in windows, but a partition instead <3> thanks linux_galore <3> night <0> any ideas why VLC is failing to play DVDs <15> mustard_1: ok <3> Hfuy, how is it failing? <18> Hfuy: you installed libdvdcss2 ? <15> mustard_1: Should be double the Ram size right?
<11> is it difficult to compile cadega from source (never compiled something) <3> Hfuy, blank screen? no sound? <0> Hang on <17> Trip348 correct <0> Testing <17> Trip348 but not strictly necessary <6> I'm in Ubuntu 5 live - and the only display resolution I have is 640 x 480 - I don't have this problem running Knoppix live .. any suggestions? <17> Trip348 if you have lots of RAM its unlikely to every get used much <15> Is it possible to use the NTFS partition for Read/write or should I, start calling friends to borrow an external drive to copy and make it a Fat partition in stead? <0> "DVDread demuxer error: DVDread cannot open source" <19> Trip: it's possible <15> mustard_1: 512MB <0> main input error: no suitable access module for DVD:// <19> search for "ntfs fuse" on the ubuntu wiki <20> Trip348: i recommend the second option <19> I have read/write access on my ntfs partition now <21> Trip348, possible, but cumbersome. Recommend converting if you have the friends you were talking about. ;) <17> Trip348 linux won't be able to write to the ntfs partition..it will read it just fine <22> bloody cool, this easyubuntu... <17> ketsugi strictly speaking though its still experimental <15> so it is possible, but cumbersome and not recomended while thinking of perfomance and me being a newb? <21> Trip348, especially the newb bit <9> Woops, haha, accidently had mprime running twice for 48hrs <9> great :| <19> performance isn't really an issue unless you're gonna be using that partition a ot <19> a lot <19> in which case, go with FAT32 <15> I have all my music on it <15> pretty much all my files <3> Hfuy, I had the same error but with Totem. Try installing gxine. Once installed it worked. It works better for as the DVD playback is not choppy nor jerky <17> Trip348 I think the issue is going to be that you already have two primary partitions...and there is a limit of four primary partitions, so after ubuntu breaks the last free space into two more partitions you will be at your limit of primary partitions <17> Trip348 a second hard drive or a bit of a rethink on how you are going to set up your drive in the future might be something to consider. For now though you have enough space to try it out. <15> mustard_1: The d drive is a logical wrapped in an extended partition <17> Trip348 ah! ok <17> Trip348 well thats pretty good then :D <6> I'm in Ubuntu 5 live - and the only display resolution I have is 640 x 480 - I don't have this problem running Knoppix live .. any suggestions? <17> Trip348 ubuntu will automatically partition the free space for you with the installer <15> okay <17> SonOfMoog you could get to a terminal prompt and reconfigure xorg.conf <23> ubotu: tell SonOfMoog about fixres <6> I'm listening .. <17> SonOfMoog read the message from ubotu <17> SonOfMoog there should be a link to follow... <24> No way to watch DVDs under linux? <23> !dvd <25> DVD playing is possible in ubuntu. You may need libdvdcss2, which is available via http://wiki.ubuntu.com/SeveasPackages (section extras) <17> Morbid_Angel sure there is :) <26> How can I get Mac adress from my computer which is on windows Os? <6> got it, thanks - I'll be AFK for a bit <26> I need for magick packets <24> ok was following the ubuntuguide.org for dvd playback but the apt-get fails <23> Skeletonix: you are on windows now? <0> No DVD in VLC then. <17> SonOfMoog k good luck <0> Has anyone eve rgot it working? <26> yes <27> can someone tell me what program there is to make flash animations? <23> !ubuntuguide <25> [ubuntuguide] badly out of date, reported to break a lot and generally a bad source for information. Use help.ubuntu.com or wiki.ubuntu.com instead. <17> Morbid_Angel the ubuntuguide is a bit dated now...its for Hoary Hedgehog 5.04 <24> ok. It was the highest google link though =) <26> Terminal server client ;) <17> Morbid_Angel try the wiki for more up to date stuff <23> Skeletonix: this isn't really a windows support channel but I believe you can run ipconfig, maybe ipconfig /a ro whatever the switch is <15> mustard_1: Thanks for the help, I'll go looking for an external drive to borrow now then. <23> Skeletonix: s/ro/or <17> Trip348 k <0> how do I remove a symlink <26> _jason: ? <23> Hfuy: rm <23> Skeletonix: ? <26> _jason: s/ro/or <27> can someone tell me what program there is to make flash animations? <23> Skeletonix: oh it means subsitute ro with or, since I made a typo
