<0> howdy
<1> i see it, permit root login was set to yes
<2> What is 96mb's in kb's?
<3> thoreauputic: boot linux noacpi nolacpi brought me on- > looking .....
<4> AppleSpray, 96x1024. :)
<5> pmv- I'll reboot into dapper and try the dirty-plugins soon. I don't like totem tho- I want xine to work
<6> Do i have to allways retype nick?
<2> What?
<6> or can i somehow store it?
<7> DJ_Tobias: It looks like a pretty stupid idea at first glance, but actually it's pretty smart. All the farther you can trace back an attack is to "grandma's old 98 box". You can't get back to the puppetmaster very easily.
<4> danboid, me either. Hate totem.
<8> http://securitytracker.com/alerts/2006/Mar/1015740.html A vulnerability was reported in dm-crypt in the Linux kernel. A local user can obtain information about cryptographic keys.
<8> Impact: A local user can obtain information about cryptographic keys.
<8> Solution: The vendor has issued a fixed version (2.6.16-rc1). Is there a backported patch or new kernel for Breezy and Dapper ?
<2> Erm...

<2> I cant be screwd working that out
<6> for example i would like to still talk to AppleSpray shoul i still write /msg AplleSpray?
<4> AppleSpray, 98304kb
<9> Can anyone help me get my broadcom card to connect to my wireless lan?
<2> thanks :P
<1> broadcom is hopeless
<10> is there an already written program out there that can channel login attempts, kernel warnings, etc.. to somewhere on your desktop?
<4> FantomX1, no autocomplete?
<4> FantomX1, that's specific to your IRC client.
<10> fatehaze, ndiswrapper
<7> fatehaze: I don't have any knowledge on them personally but here is the sticky thread in the forum: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=25683&pp=10
<2> pmv, it didnt work
<4> AppleSpray, what did you select?
<1> DJ_Tobias, snort
<2> Just a load of stuff
<9> Actually, just got my wireless to work
<9> But it seems unusually slow?
<2> cant change res still
<2> IT has to do with xorg.conf MANUALLY. Thats it.
<5> The other bug I found with dapper occurs when I use 'Hibernate'- GRUB boots REALLY slowly- it takes a minute or more just to get from 'Grub loading, please wait' through to 'Uncompressing Linux, OK booting kernel'. Athlon XP, A7N8X
<3> thoreauputic: looks like it is not detecting network hardware
<9> My ping to google was 1000ms...
<11> leagris: please don't paste - and that bug has already been fixed...
<4> AppleSpray, it's something to do with your hardware, probably. You have to specify the right driver.
<7> DJ_Tobias: google "intrusion detection system". Also, gDesklets has some little progs that follow logs and do neat flashy things on given criteria
<8> Sorry for long paste Madpilot and thans it hhas been fixed
<4> AppleSpray, what driver did you select? For example, I have an ATI card, so I use the ati driver.
<8> thanks
<1> whats the CIDR form for cl*** A network?
<10> yea, gdesklets for some reason isnt loading in my new kernel
<2> Intel Intergrated
<12> hi, i have some probs with ubuntu 5.10 PPC on an ibook. WLAN with WEP works fine with airport. but i cant get it to work with WPA. any suggestions?
<13> !wpa
<14> wpa is, like, totally, enable the universe repository, then "sudo apt-get update", and then "sudo apt-get install wpasupplicant". See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/WPAHowto for more details
<15> #ubuntu
<9> My wireless is great on my windows desktop - why is it so slow on my ubuntu laptop?
<15> can any one help me?
<12> i did, but when i try wpa_supplicant -D hermes it says "hermes driver not compiled in"
<5> Nobody else encountered the super-slow GRUB boot on hibernate? After GRUB has finished it boots un-suspends fast and proper, but the GRUB lag defeats the whole point
<7> Jivemonkey: not really an answer, but a place with an answer: http://public.pacbell.net/dedicated/cidr.html
<7> DJ_Tobias: as per gDesklets, did you change anything other than your kernel upgrade when it stopped working?
<4> If AppleSpray comes back, tell im good luck. :/
<5> At least my sound still works after a hibernate-boot, it didn't under breezy
<10> cilynx, nope
<10> just upgraded the kernel
<5> Also, I was kinda hoping GNOME 2.14 would let you position icons precisely on the desktop instead of awkwardly snapping onto some mysterious grid
<10> cilynx, and its really disappointing because i had everything in gdesklets set up perfectly
<7> DJ_Tobias: are you running an Ubuntu stock kernel or did you roll your own?
<10> cilynx, my own
<10> Linux slave 2.6.15.6 #1 PREEMPT Mon Mar 6 03:31:35 EST 2006 i686 GNU/Linux
<7> DJ_Tobias: does gDesklets throw an error when you try to launch?
<16> can someone help me more, im having a problem with an avi file
<5> heyjoe2: no sound eh?
<10> cilynx, nope, the 'tip of the day' comes up, and then it just shuts down
<16> when i open an avi file in totem, it plays only the audio and when i open it in mplayer and vlc, i get only the video
<12> did anyone ever get an ibook with airport and wpa to work properly?
<10> heyjoe2, try xine ?
<7> heyjoe2: sorry if I missed it back in the log, but did you install the w32codecs package?
<16> cilynx: i did
<5> This is the problem I'm having too
<17> hey all.

<7> DJ_Tobias: not my normal recomendadion, but what's keeping you off of the stock kernel? On every other distro, I promote rolling your own, but on Ubuntu, I have had much better luck all around sticking with their stock kernels
<18> hello aefkei
<16> i think i may have a 64 bit processor, could that be a problem?
<19> what software can i use to burn a vcd?
<10> cilynx, dunno.. im new to ubuntu so i didnt know what to expect with my own kernel!
<7> heyjoe2: if you can send me a link / copy of the file you're fighting with, I can take a look at it
<5> heyjoe: yes, if you've installed AMD64 Ubuntu- that can't use the w32codecs without a chrooted mplayer/xiine
<7> DJ_Tobias: your previous kernel that it did work with: was that yours or stock?
<10> stock cilynx
<16> danboid: its not amd, intel
<16> cilynx: how would i send a link of the file? obvious question im sure, sorry
<20> Madpilot: ?
<17> I am trying to convert plain p***words to shadow, but pwconv does not seem to do anything. pwck outputs a couple of error about directories not existing, I think this might be the problem. Questions : is this the problem ? and how do I fix an error of the type "user dhcp: directory /nonexistent does not exist".
<11> n3m3s1s: hi
<21> twa1296: What OS are you using?
<20> why you kick me ?
<5> heyjoe2: doesn't really matter what CPU- what version of ubuntu did you install?
<20> oh ok
<20> sorry
<16> danboid: breezy
<11> n3m3s1s: your IRC program was posting away messages
<16> danboid: just the stock standard one
<10> cilynx, what in the kernel config could of caused gdesklets to conflict?
<20> just one time :)
<5> heyjoe: 32bit or 64bit?
<16> danboid: im not 100% sure, cos someone installed it for me, but i think it was 32
<7> DJ_Tobias: I bet there's some random module that you would never think you need that you really do. Maybe try grabbing the config for the stock kernel from /boot and using that as your starting .config for your new kernel. Tweak from there.
<16> danboid: cos he told me, you have a 64 bit but its not fully functional, doesnt mean a whole lot to me
<11> n3m3s1s: there's 588 ppl using this channel - imagine 588 away msgs, even 'just one time' ones... turn your away msgs off, please
<22> heyjoe2: what does uname -r say? that will tell you what arch your running
<10> cilynx, hmm good idea thanks
<7> heyjoe2: if it's on the web somewhere, just give me a url, otherwise, you can DCC it to me if your client supports that.
<20> yes i'm agree Madpilot , i'm sorry
<7> DJ_Tobias: np. I've solved many a stupid problem on my own systems that way
<5> heyjoe: hmm, well I've had problems playing movies under 32bit dapper, stay away from 64bit whatever for movie playback but breezy has been OK for me with w32codecs installed
<2> I FOUND THE FIX!
<23> whats the su p***wd for the ubuntu 5.04 livecd?
<18> devser, root
<2> But xorg.conf is wierdly [read only] wtf?!
<11> devser: there isn't one, everything should be available
<16> gnomefreak: 2.6.12-10-386
<22> AppleSpray: sudo
<16> cilynx: ok ill dcc
<22> heyjoe2: 32 bit kernel
<23> Madpilot, nope, im denied access to ****
<7> devser: iirc, you just hit enter when it prompts for the p***word
<23> annoying as ****
<24> did anybody installed websphere on unbuntu
<11> devser: language
<2> sudo what gnomefreak ?
<22> devser: please dont use that lanague in here
<23> ive tried root, livecd etc etc
<23> kk, noted. we dont need an office space reenactment
<17> Can someone tell me if they have the line dhcp:x:101:101::/nonexistent:/bin/false in their /etc/p***wd ?
<16> cilynx: ill figure out eventually im sure, but itll probably be quicker if u give me a hint as to how to dcc-and i hope u like lost
<22> AppleSpray: what file are you trying to open use sudo to open it like sudo gedit /etc/apt.....
<11> devser: what're you trying to do, exactly?
<2> Its okay I got it
<17> And i particular the /nonexistent part ?
<7> heyjoe2: what IRC client are you using?
<16> cilynx: xchat, i can only find the file send list
<24> i am trying to installing IBM websphere community edition
<25> hey guys
<26> hi guys! do you know any program that converts ogg vorbis audio into mp3?
<22> coffee!!
<25> so does doing a apt-get dist-upgrade fix this plaintext p***word in log files problem?
<27> hey folks.. quick question -- after a host changes its ssh fingerprint how can I force update it in my known_hosts file?
<24> but i have problem with the JRE
<16> cilynx: do u really think its a problem with the file. i thought cos one program plays sound and one program plays audio it must be ubuntu or the apps
<26> anybody here?
<7> heyjoe2: i don't think it's the file at all, but if i have it on hand, i can troubleshoot the apps much easier
<13> tga, delete the bad line and login to that hosty
<16> ok
<11> Gambit--: you don't need to do a full dist-upgrade - just upgrade
