<5> FreeBSD on this machine, ArchLinux on my Laptop and Desktop, and then Debian/Xen on my server
<9> I think for Edgy, Startup Programs should have its own heading under Preferences

<14> has anyone gotten their hands on a nforce5 yet and tried it in linux?
<3> yeah
<13> please I really need to know this?

<3> I agree, storm.
<15> Kyral: If I try installing FreeBSD on one of my other computers, will it work happily networkwise with Ubuntu?
<16> ahh, nothin' makes ya feel more alive than booting an OS from a floppy, mmmm
<13> eclypse #gentoo is bigger
<5> netowrkwise?
<13> this si the most important question I'll ask, is linux-wlan-ng INCLUDED on the installer?
<17> Ok, im trying to make a decision, but since im asking in here, I think I know the answer. Would you perfer Debian or Ubuntu. Dont answer unless you have tried both.
<5> nooby_god: I don;t know sorry
<4> Luke, once you say "chroot" i'm somewhat lost as to what to suggest for that, but if you can fetch the .deb manually, you can dpkg -i foo.deb, if you can get it to the chroot
<9> eclypse: It should also not screw up >_<
<15> Kyral: Like sharing folders and so on
<5> Disorder: heehe, wanna start a flaemwar?
<10> MoxJe1: If it uses Samba YES. :)
<18> nooby_god I don't think its installed by default, but its in synaptic
<15> Ears: My ubuntu uses samba
<5> MoxJe1: or even SSH
<17> Im wanting a good opinion.
<19> .
<16> *gives Disorder a good opinion*
<5> Disorder: oy okay. I have used both
<9> Oh meh I'm gonna have to install ubuntu for the 3rd time in 6 months :(
<3> lol
<13> NoUse so that means I will not have internet access after I install?
<3> believe it or not guys, I'm running dialup
<8> www: .xsession is blank by default. Unless you've added something to it previously, you should be fine running without one
<20> http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=1133779#post1133779 - Anyone got any ideas?
<9> well, 8 months.
<3> I hav ea really complicated setup
<3> lol
<5> Disorder: hell, I still do. So..
<3> or not really
<9> eclypse: =O shocking
<3> I'm getting internet from my desktop
<4> Luke, once you get to the mirror (any) browse the tree for pool/main/l/lilo/lilo_22.6.1-7ubuntu2_i386.deb
<15> eclypse: whoa hello 1990
<3> which is running windows
<3> lol
<21> Is there any way to make synaptic less " Look at me! I'm installing stuff. FLASH FLASH FLASH. Don't minimize me! I want attention. FLASH FLASH FLASH" ?
<3> well
<16> eclypse, oldskool!
<3> I can't get anything else where I live
<0> eyequeue: i'm chrooted into the harddrive of the computer I am running the livecd on. I've got internet working on the livecd but I cant get it started on the harddrive. any suggestions?
<3> not exactly my fault
<5> Disorder: Private Msg? This could get ugly
<3> how do I change my font?
<15> eclypse: that's why you don't live in sibiria
<22> Where can I get xlib-devel package for ubuntu?
<18> nooby_god depends on your card etc
<20> Flannel, I'll remove it and see what happens. I thought it was required :!
<23> calisee: sudo apt-get install xlib-dev
<10> eugman: Use aptitude??

<11> nooby_god: I think ndiswrapper is on the installer cd (not desktop) and you might take that one to be more on the safe side.
<9> !info xlib-dev
<3> I ilve in northern california
<22> gnomefreak: thanks
<13> NoUse the only driver for my card, is linux-wlan-ng
<17> Yea, It could. =P I dont care really, Im just wanting to know some pros and cons of each =P
<4> Luke, no, chroot is beyond me, sorry
<3> no dsl or anything out here
<5> Disorder: which is why I say PMSG :P
<3> hwo do I change my font color?
<13> samuli isn't that dangerous?
<24> hi can anyone help me out with a small problem?
<5> Disorder: because I will be brultal and piss off a lot of people in the process :P
<4> Luke, someone else may be able to help with that part though
<11> nooby_god: what is?
<9> eclypse: Font colours are looked down on in Freenode, if you are talking about IRC
<25> what's the best free game for linux?
<13> the last time I used ndiswrapper my kernel paniced
<17> Ok.
<20> :)
<22> gnomefreak: that wasn't a package name actually, i just tried that before haha
<15> Kyral: Does wine work with FreeBSD?
<18> nooby_god I used it no prob
<13> *paniced
<5> lilbit: NetHack
<13> ok
<13> thank you
<0> eyequeue: ok thanks
<10> Nethack
<26> jonah: ask away
<11> nooby_god: hehe, well I wouldn't consider ndiswrapper 'dangerous'
<3> gtg
<3> I'll be back later guys
<3> ttyl
<5> MoxJe1: Dunno, first you need to activate Linux Binary Compat :P
<23> Disorder: ask in #ubuntu-offtopic than they will give you a list of pros adn cons
<20> Hopefully my 6 hours trying to find a solution will now come to an end
<25> Kyral_FreeBSD, thanks
<15> Kyral: Oh ****
<0> i'm chrooted into the harddrive of the computer I am running the livecd on. I've got internet working on the livecd but I cant get it started on the harddrive. any suggestions?
<23> calisee: on dapper?
<27> !xgl
<28> XGL on Ubuntu: http://wiki.ubuntu.com/CompositeManager - Join #ubuntu-xgl for all the XGL fun on Ubuntu systems. Pretty videos on http://www.novell.com/linux/xglrelease/ See http://tinyurl.com/pw5ez for Kubuntu systems
<22> gnomefreak: ya
<15> Kyral: I'll stick with my ubuntu then ;)
<5> MoxJe1: BSD isn't even Linux :P
<24> ok thanks well it's my laptop, it doesn't beep when battery is running out so if i;m not watching it will turn itself off!
<5> and I am LAGGIN!
<10> lilbit - "Wine" or "Cedega" - (silly grin)
<15> Kyral: No but um I thought maybe it was compatible with wine anyway
<23> calisee: xlibs-dev
<9> So I'm reinstalling dapper now. How do I make a /home partition? Just add an ext3 partition and give it a /home mountpoint?
<22> gnomefreak: that did the trick thank you
<23> calisee: sorry forgot the s the first time
<27> ubotu: thank you ;)
<28> kimo: de nada
<25> how do I get nethack
<11> Stormx2: yeah.
<9> Goodo
<5> apt-get install Nethack :D
<29> Disorder: ubuntu on my laptops for worry free full funtionality, and a minimalist debian on my servers with only what I need...
<25> is it nethack-gnome?
<9> And I should make a /boot parition too?
<26> jonah: never used Ubuntu or any other Linux on a laptop so I don't know what programs you would run to monitor the battery. Someone else in here might though.
<5> Debian..stable is insanely stable
<9> How big should the /boot, /home and / partitions be?
<24> it's weird cos dapper doesn't have all the cool gnome sounds that breezy had, they're turned off but i used to think they were quite useful. a wastebin emptying noise and a couple of other would be useful as confirmation and especially battery low warning sounds
<16> I still can't seem to get Planescape Torment running on wine, though it says on winehq that it works
<11> Stormx2: if you wish.
<5> but outdated as a consequence
<8> lilbit: could be. "nethack" package will install everything you need
<12> how can i get rid of OSS and use ALSA again ?
<5> Then again Ubuntu is decended from Debian
