<8> I've been setting up file sharing using System->Administration->Shared Folders... I am sharing my home folder across a samba network with windows laptops. This breezy server is showing in the workgroup on the windows machines but is asking for a p***word. I have tried entering my root and main username and p***word and it won't let me view the files. Preferably I wouldn't have a p***word because my LAN is secure.. any ideas please?.
<9> Fastly: you need to set up samba to allow guest authentication
<8> the windows boxes also prepend the name of the linux server before whatever username i attempt
<9> Fastly: You also need to use 'smbp***wd' to set the p***word for any user
<10> i installer compiz and now my monitor goes white when i boot up ubuntu.can anybody hlp me uninstall compiz from recovery mode??

<9> Fastly: it uses USERS from the system, but the p***words are separate, and need to be created via smbp***wd
<11> Linuxn00b, dpkg --purge compiz ?
<3> do everyone konw why gstreamer, xine and vlc don't work in my pc???
<12> no
<13> kiroh__: statements like that are more or less useless. You're going to have to expand
<2> what do i need to change in fstab to get automount to work??
<14> anyone know tomorrow's lottery numbers?
<11> Spaceraverlinux, "man fstab" should give syntax
<7> docgnome: to change what gnome-terminal reports as TERM, you have only 2 options: modify the source code and rebuild or change TERM in your .bashrc Note that setting TERM in rc won't work because gnome-terminal would overwrite that value.
<15> Fastly, that is correct, my windows box does the same ting
<16> 1 12 23 34 18 22 5
<3> i have installed all the codecs and i can only hear the sound of the movie
<14> Fee^, sweet! thanks lol
<8> thanks guys... i just used smbp***wd to set my user p***word and now i can access my files ... thanks!
<17> I have a problem on a new-installed ibm x43 laptop. multiverse is added in sources.list, but it can't find mplayer
<7> Spacesaverlinux: automount what?
<10> the monitor is still white when i try to logg in, but compiz was removed
<15> simira, are you using synaptic?
<18> anyway to back up the ubuntu settings?
<1> uXp: your home dir
<18> gnomefreak: what you mean
<17> jughead: tried both synaptics and aptitude
<7> uXp: which settings?
<19> Would anyone in here happen to have a IBM R40 thinkpad laptop?
<20> uXp, most of your settings are saved in hidden files in your home dir
<10> need help to recover ubuntu
<1> uXp: the config files are in your home dir back up your home dir to save them
<15> did you enable the univers and multiverson on all of them or just one?
<15> *universe and multiverse
<7> Linuxn00b: give a more specific question, please
<21> When I shut down, why does it say that its shutting down "bttrack.bittorrent"? Anyone know?
<11> ic56, he has a white screen after installing compiz, even pafter removing it
<22> im back, still getting the lockup after load. i installed the legacy drivers for nvidia... any ideas?
<10> my kernel crashes
<10> (i think so at least)
<1> Linuxn00b: try #ubuntu-xgl or reformat
<11> Linuxn00b, what is the last thing you see before the crash?
<7> eyequeue, Linuxn00b: Oh. He said that in a separate line, so I missed it. I don't have the answer to that.
<10> ok i can format but i need to copy files from the main disk to another....how?
<11> ic56, i know nothing of compiz, so i'm probably of little help in this
<1> Linuxn00b: gnomebaker
<9> naa, you just need to remove xgl and re-configure X.org
<3> i have installed all the codecs and i can only hear the sound of the movie please help me
<9> you've followed restrictedformats, kiroh__ ?
<11> Linuxn00b, the general answer: cp /first/place/for/the/file /other/new/place/
<23> .
<3> yes i tried all
<23> can anyone tell me if there is a command to use to list all files on the system that were changed after a certain date?

<24> what are the differences in the DVD.iso & the standard .isos?
<25> kiroh__: grab the essential codec pack from http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/design7/dload.html
<26> She's baaa-ack! :)
<1> Kuyaedz: dvd has more packages on the disk but if your gonna enable the repos it doesnt make a difference
<10> can you help me to reconfigure xorg?
<26> Got it installed.... that was super duper fast man!
<27> kiroh__: you can type 'file filename.avi' for more detailed info on file type
<11> Kuyaedz, the dvd is dvd-size, not a mere 600 mb, and it's also dvd-format
<18> gnomefreak: wouldn't backing up a home dir then replacing it on a new reinstall mess up the whole comp?
<28> alguien habla espaol?
<29> hello, new to ubuntu, used other distro with kde before though...i need some help...how do i edit stuff on a folder that only has root permission??

<30> GoDawgs: Nice
<31> !es
<6> Para Espaol por favor usen #ubuntu-es, #kubuntu-es o #edubuntu-es, alli obtendran mas ayuda.
<1> uXp: not really
<25> kiroh__: install to /usr/lib/win32
<26> However, I was under the impression the driver for Broadcom's 43xx was solved. Thought it would work... but to no avail.
<11> noiz777, sudo command-here
<26> hey KenSentMe

<30> !tell noiz777 about root
