<20> tonedahl: fsck is the FileSystemChecKer. There's one for each filesystem that's native to Linux plus a few others. There isn't one for ntfs. However, ntfstools is a package that might be able to help.

Tools can only get you so far and, ultimately, you need to know the internals of how that filesystem works in order to be able to determine the correct course of action.
