<0> Ignite: compiz-vanilla is the FDO packs, without external 3rd-party additions
<1> kholerabbi: alsa if you're on dapper? otherwise, whichever sound system youu're using - oss or alsa
<2> apokryphos, ok thanks :)
<3> breezy
<0> Ignite: compiz-quinn is a modified compiz by Quinn and a few other 3rd-party developers
<1> kholerabbi: go alsa - & select alsa from thte multimedia selector
<4> Ok im gonna format and reinstall... What do you consider the best? breezy? dapper drake? kubuntu? xubuntu? edubuntu?
<2> apokryphos, so, i should be safe with either right?
<5> hmm... chroot sounds good :P what does it stand for ? change root ?_?
<6> hello
<0> ome_: Kubuntu Dapper :P
<1> kholerabbi: note that with alsa you can only have one sound source at a time
<0> Ignite: they'll have different options, they should both run fine though.
<7> apokryphos, http://pastebin.com/706315
<6> how to install a desktop on 6.06 server
<1> Hso: bingo

<4> apokryphos that a joke or you serious?
<2> apokryphos, ok thanks a lot
<5> ah
<0> ome_: deadly =)
<0> shriphani: ok, re-enter that sudo apt-get foo command
<6> something lie fluxbox
<0> ubuntu: install ubuntu-desktop
<4> k k har har har
<7> ok
<0> ubuntu: for fluxbox.... /msg ubotu fluxbox
<0> ome_: as in, I'm not joking. KDE is the way to go =)
<8> is there any good linux/open source/ubuntu podcasts?
<9> how can i point the stdout of starting up gnome-session & into a file?
<0> ome_: and Dapper is latest stable release
<5> KDE has far too much junk for my liking :(
<0> Hso: we like to call that configurability and extensibility :)
<10> here we go again
<5> I call it "junk" :P
<7> apokryphos, it is working fine
<11> is there anyway to run ventrilo on ubuntu?
<7> lemme close the terminal and reopen it
<1> compromise - configurable & extensible junk
<5> I don't need to see a list of 300+ appz when i just want to access one of them :P
<5> heh
<4> hey apokryphos im taking your word.. gettin kbuntu
<0> Hso: hm, I wouldn't say it had "junk" that way. And anyway, with regard to applications, GTK/GNOME are just as guilty of having several applications to do the same thing 8)
<0> ome_: join us in #kubuntu if you have any questions :)
<3> frogzoo: thanks I'll check
<5> it's alot easier to find the app I want in Gnome :P
<0> Hso: really?
<12> tried installing ubuntu on usb external disk. it hangs about 95% ,any ideas on this
<13> ome_, you can have both the GNOME Ubuntu and kubuntu simultaneously, so you won't be losing anything whichever you choose
<0> I always know whatever app I want, so even now the menu is pretty useless
<0> waste of my time :P
<5> apokryphos, for me, it is :P
<1> apokryphos: I just discovered Deskbar a couple days ago & suddenly everything is at your fingertips - so cool
<5> but then again I only used KDE for about 5-10minutes(Knoppix) to test my network connection.... once it failed, I reset and back into ubuntu/Gnome :D
<13> Hso, how can it be the "app you want" when you don't know its name? ;)
<14> ...............
<15> could someone help me with network manager?
<16> hello, how can i set the task panel to show 2 rows of tasks?
<7> ***asuk***e, what happened
<5> hastesaver, it's so complex that i'm not even going to answer that ;P
<17> hello
<14> hi
<12> if the bios does not allow me to boot from usbdisk ,how can i tell the kernel to boot from this usbdisk
<18> hey ic56 . im having some slight problems running it. should it not run when i type "sudo bash ~/desktop/diskmounter-latest.txt"???
<15> shriphani i installed it but it doesn't show..
<19> brett_: yes, it should. What error message do you get?

<7> do you click on the icon and does it ask for yer p***word
<6> the intalation of fluxbox looks complicated is it ok to apt-get install fluxbox-desktop?
<1> graveson: you can't :(
<13> apokryphos, is the Dapper kubuntu much different from the breezy one? I used to use KDE, but I've been using GNOME since I installed Dapper (too lazy to get KDE). Am I missing something other than I what I already know I'm missing? :)
<15> shriphani i don't see any icon.
<18> no such file or directory
<7> ok
<20> Anyone running Dapper on a Dell XPS gen2 laptop?
<21> Hello :> I'm running Dapper with all of the most recent updates installed, I'm having an unusual problem with the console text...it stretches off the top and bottom parts of the screen enough that it's impossible to see the command prompt with a clear screen ;> Anyone know how I might be able to change that?
<22> How do you configure the graficcard?
<23> hi all. i've got a macbook pro, but had enough of it, so i want to replace it with pc based laptop. i like sony vaio fe's - but how well do they work with ubuntu? (need good sleep support)

<0> hastesaver: it has a newer version of KDE than Breezy did. A few more modifications with Guidance, improvements to Katapult, and such things.
<18> ic56, no such file or directory. and i cant copy it to another place, i think i dont have rights
<24> Hi all i was just wondering where gnome is located
<22> How do you list all configure commands?
<20> oilcat : Dell laptops work really nice with Dapper.
<19> brett_: remember that the unix filesystem is case sensitive. You typed `desktop' which is not the same as `Desktop'. The latter is correct. If you saved diskmounter-latest.txt with any uppercase letters, you need to pay attention to those too.
<23> rivethead aye, they're alright. i use that combo at work, but for home i want something a bit ***ier than a dell :)
<6> how to install fluxbox is there a howto
<0> m_0_r_0_n: ./configure --help?
<15> shriphani now i rebooted and have the applet, but says no net, while i am connected by wireless..
<18> ahhhhh

<20> oilcat : even ***ier than the new XPS ? :P
<10> m0gsi: waht are you trying to do?
<22> xserver-configure?
<19> brett_: let me know how it goes.

<6> i did that its to complicated
<22> xorg-configure?
<18> ic56, thanks
<24> Orbin i'm trying to change the splash screen
<0> m_0_r_0_n: you want to configure your X?
<22> yes
<0> m_0_r_0_n: sudo dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg
<23> rivethead i'm not into dells bulky case design. i'll look up the xps
<10> m0gsi: the one that show up when gnome is loading?
<0> ubuntu: install "fluxbox" package
<20> oilcat : i do have a friend that run's Dapper on one of the newer model vaio's i can ask him later for you how it works out , you can email me at rivethead@gmail.com
<7> no net ?
<24> Ya i've got a replacement file and art.gnome.com? is telling me to find the gnome directory i think
<25> any1 know how to let networkmanager configure wep key#2?
<7> erm sorry i have no idea about netowrk manager
<6> apokryphos: the wiki is to complicated what apt-get install fluxbox desktop
<23> rivethead i'll drop you a note, thanks a lot
<7> i use airsnort
<10> m0gsi: either install gtweakui, or go directly into gconf-editor to specify the splash image
<20> oilcat : your not looking to get rid of that macbook pro are you ? :)
<0> ubuntu: why do you want to use fluxbox?
<24> can i just use the full path of it?
<23> rivethead the xps is a bit big
<1> !laptop
<26> I guess laptop is https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptops or http://www.linux-laptop.net/ or https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LaptopTestingTeam, or tuxmobil.org
<6> because its light i will run vmware
<20> oilcat : yeah it is, the Gen2 compacts are quit nice though thats what im on right now.
<23> rivethead my girlfriend is having the mbp. trust me, you dont want one :)
<10> m0gsi: fine. be that way: /usr/share/pixmaps/splash/ubuntu-splash.png
<20> oilcat : really , thats a shame to hear i was excited about those.
<23> me too
<24> lol sorry orbin
<23> rivethead the heat is staggering. i want a laptop i can use on my lap
<18> ic56, http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/15652 is that alright?
<10> m0gsi: lol. guess it's another way of doing things. no offence meant :)
<24> Thanks orbin i was just looking for the packages of gtweakui but thanks i'll do it manually
<20> olicat : i have heard that they do run quite hot, i only have one problem with dapper on a laptop really and it doesnt bug me to terribly much.
<10> m0gsi: yeah, just replace the image i guess
<19> brett_: hang on
<1> olicat: radicat
<1> olicat: radical
<27> Hey,
<24> I'll put one in the same folder as i like the deafult one as well !
<27> Does anyone know of a good FTP client with a nice GUI? gFTP really does ****, and the lack of a tree view is even worse and makes my fingers hurt because of all the navigating of the folders
<10> m0gsi: then you'll still have to specify which image to use w/ gtweakui or gconf-editor
<24> I know i've found it in gconf
<20> olicat : have you played with any of the other new mac laptops?
<10> m0gsi: gtwekaui is in universe
<10> m0gsi: ah righto
<28> hey all, I have a problem and hoping someone here can help, everytime I try to install java I get an error that its going to brake packages. any Idea's?
<0> robin__: how are you installing
<19> brett_: ah. you've been messing around with /etc/fstab :-). Ok, the script can fix it for you. run it with the -b flag.
<24> I think i'll get gtwekaui anyway as long as i can find it in synaptic
<18> ic56, thanks, trying
<28> good
<23> rivethead the 13" i've had a loot at. seems nice, but so did the pro at first
