<0> NET||abuse, sending p***words in plain text is not good.. <1> NET||abuse, it's essentuiially the hub of ubuntu delvelopment nowadays. ;) <2> aha.. i see <3> dooglus: heh, got the font error with tightvncserver, perhaps try what i mentioned earlier <4> bimberi: oddly enough, the session that tightvncserver started did have a window manager - metacity <4> bimberi: it's just that the panels and what-not didn't start up. <1> dooglus, did nove-vm work btw? <4> bimberi: but then, I'm having that problem a lot anyway. <1> err <3> dooglus: ah <1> s/gnome-vm/gnome-wm <5> Can someone please help me? <4> I didn't try gnome-wm yet <4> Ng: what's the reason you don't want anyone to use dapper? you don't want the bugs found before release, or what? <6> David, how can anyone know? <5> I'm using ubuntu 5.04 but i have some problems with evolution
<1> David, don't ask to ask for help, just ask your question. ;) <5> WezlFawlty: Heh, i didn't get to finish :D <7> http://wbn.ath.cx/sender/prova.html <7> http://wbn.ath.cx/sender/send.php <1> AnsiC, wussat? <5> I'm using Evolution as my mailclient but i cant change the charset permanently <4> I found that going home and running x11vnc from the console fixed the problem for me :) <5> i need to use ISO-8859-15 but i have to manually select it every time i write a mail <5> even though i've put ISO-8859-15 as my standard charset in Evolutions Settings <7> i need a web page for receive file <5> Anyone know where i can find the configfiles or such for Evolution? <3> dooglus: glad to hear something worked :) <7> wen someone want send me some file <4> bimberi: and the exercise is good for too, I'm sure. <7> i give the page <7> and he send my the file by the page <4> bimberi: it's the 3rd time I've had to run home so far today... first I hadn't started 'knockd', then I hadn't closed the door properly, so I had to start the VNC server... doh! <1> AnsiC, #apache <3> dooglus: :) <3> dooglus: :( <8> dooglus: I didn't say anyone <9> hi! im no modda****a! an u_ <1> David, tried restarting? :P <5> rikai yup <10> David, they live in your home directory in a directory called evolution <5> ompaul: no they dont, i've been looking through every file in .evolution in my home-dir <1> David, sounds like a but to me, report it. <4> Ng: you said "people". that includes most potential dapper users I reckon. although my cat is pretty good on the keyboard. <5> Gonna join #evolution@irc.gimp.org <8> dooglus: for reasons of tact and brevity I didn't say "people who wend their way here" ;) <4> Ng: there doesn't seem to be any other channel for discussing dapper <1> dooglus, anywho, from what i can tell, gnome-wm is how gdm starts up its gonme. <10> Davi .evolution/tasks/config <10> ohh he gone <1> s/gonme/gnome <8> dooglus: exactly <11> hello anybody i have a problem with my usb. any body can help? <8> most of the discussion would be about things that are already fixed anyway. bugs go in malone, devel talk goes on -devel, anything else is noise, frankly <1> dooglus, or specifically, gnome-wm --sm-client-id defailt0 <12> did anyone install kde and ubuntu from the repos, but kde as part of the cd and ubuntu later on from the repos? <1> hatake_kakashi, i did it the other way around, and i've known people that have done it that was as well. <12> rikai: hmm, any specific errors about the keyboard specifics? <13> Hello. When I ls -l a directory, what do the first two columns mean? <14> The permissions, liquidindian <12> liquidindian: permissions and type followed by user and group <12> s/user/owner <14> !permissions <15> permissions are explained here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FilePermissions - The easiest way to work with permissions is to sudo chmod {options} filename. Also, try "man chmod", "man chown", and "man chgrp" from the console. <4> liquidindian: the first column is the permissions, the 2nd column is the number of links to that file <4> does nobody else see the links in column 2? <14> Yes, actually. <14> I do. <12> dooglus: blah, I made a mistake, my bad <1> hatake_kakashi, havent seen any problems like that. <12> rikai: hmm :S I may as well switch back to KDE, the keyboard bindings seems really odd, it almost acts like as if I was on tty but a little worser <1> hatake_kakashi, ...jsut change the keyboard bindings then? <1> hatake_kakashi, system > prefrences > keyboard shortcuts <1> Or perhaps i'm misunderstanding you. the early hour may be affecting my thought process. <1> dooglus, dapper talk: http://www.ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=111 <16> what means cvs?
<1> dooglus, as well as whenever someone feels like mentioning it, which i do sometimes, in #ubuntuforums and #ubuntu-offtopic <1> Al-Daja, Concurrent Versioning System <1> !cvs <15> cvs is, like, the Concurrent Versions System, the dominant open-source network-transparent version control system; it helps to manage releases and to control concurrent editing of source files among multiple authors. See: https://www.cvshome.org/ <4> Al-Daja: "concurrent versions system" - it's a source code control system <16> thx rikai dooglus <12> rikai: I've tried numerous ones. The thing is that my keyboard and mouse are PS/2 and I got one of those usb where it handles both. The thing is on tty, the arrow keys fail to work, ie, they cause manpages on tty to crash because of odd key. On Gnome, I checked via xev and where its supposed to show up, down, left, right arrow key, it shows some odd number and that seems to make Gnome interpret all those arrow keys, etc as 'saving screenshot' <17> hi <12> hi <1> hatake_kakashi, do they work if connected via ps/2? <12> rikai: lol, this is a dodgy mobo, the PS/2 sockets don't work. They fail to be detected, so I'm forced to make them plug into usb <12> rikai: the funny thing is that it works somewhat well in KDE (albeit a little laggy) but on Gnome it is interpreted as different signal. Even using irssi now, I have activity shown on '2' however I cannot switch to it, I tried Alt+2 (which is to usually switch between windows in irssi) Gnome interprets that as 'take screenshot' <7> ok no channel is ok for me <7> by <1> hatake_kakashi, hm, try switcihng to another wm, deleting ~/.gnome2 and ~/.gconf <18> why isn't ubuntu registering that i have 1024mb ram? <4> hatake_kakashi: you can use control-p and control-n to switch windows in irssi <1> and logging into gnome again <1> see if that fixes it. <18> why isn't ubuntu registering that i have 1024mb ram? it says i have 1012.35 mb <12> dooglus: ahh nice ta <19> Ahh! <4> hatake_kakashi: it loops around, too <19> My wireless isn't working. <12> rikai: ok, will do that, thanks for the heads up <19> Can anyone help me out? <19> I have a dlink DWL-G520 <1> hatake_kakashi, although, that defintly sounds like more of a hardware interfacing problem than anything. <18> why isn't ubuntu registering that i have 1024mb ram? it says i have 1012.35 mb <19> I have the windows drivers and it works on Windows. <12> Stork: its detected as 1024 but kernel has to use a certain amount, check under 'free' first <19> Hello <18> hatake_kakashi, what do you mean? <1> Tainted-Time, https://wiki.ubuntu.com//HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCards <- that card works out of the box in breezy, jsu tneeds to be configured. <20> Stork: type free in a terminal and see how much memory it shows <12> Stork: when you run the program 'free' in terminal/konsole/tty you can see the total it has detected, how much has been used, etc <19> rikai, I have hotplug disabled. <19> Its not even being detected. <1> Stork, a section of your memory is reserved for the kernel i believe. <12> Stork: for more information cat /proc/meminfo <19> Can I manually put it in /etc/modules? <21> hi <1> Tainted-Time, why'd you disable hotplug? o.O <19> My gfx card is PCI, and for about 2 weeks couldn't solve the problem of it hanging at boot without disabling it. <18> oh, it says i have 1024mb :p <21> I have I problem with dapper, seems like the loopback interface won't came up on boot, the interfaces file looks ok, btw <19> So I put the card in /etc/modules <19> and it worked <19> and it all works. <19> Except the wifi. <12> Stork: there you go <4> lapo: try downgrading udev by 2 versions (from ubuntu10 to ubuntu8) <18> wait, no it doesn't. it still says i have 1012.35 mb <12> Stork: hmm <1> Tainted-Time, you can probaly manually add it, but you'll have to figure out which module. ;) <21> dooglus, is it a know problem? I can't find bugs referring to it in malone <12> Stork: you may have shadow data being put on RAM for faster/flexible access <22> Heh just installed the new ubuntu on an old laptop, looking sweet so far :) just wondering if its possible to minimise Evolution to the gnome bar similar like you can with Outlook to the systray in windows? <12> Stork: if it is not that, I recall ubuntu/kubuntu at boot likes to create RAMdisk which may affect the output <21> the udev version installed is 079-0ubuntu9 <4> lapo: I've not heard of that one before exactly, but the recent udev changes were problematic <1> Tainted-Time, you can look forward to dapper, it uses udev all over the place. ;) <4> lapo oh, in that case try 079-0ubuntu10 <23> bom dia pessoal. Tenho um pendrive onde s consigo gravar alguma coisa se for superusuario. Como fazer isso como ususario comum? <21> dooglus, I'll try, btw ifupdown thinks the lo interface is up, the only means I have to brig it up is manually <4> lapo: you're not up to date <12> Stork: understand? :) <18> vaguely <21> dooglus, yep, I had this problem before btw <23> hi guys. My pendrive I can mount it just if I am superuser. If I am a normal user, I can not write to it. How to read/write as a normal user? <1> Tainted-Time, first off, you neeed linux-restricted-modules installed <12> Stork: I'm not sure if current mobos still use 'shadow', what shadow is that the data for BIOS and video EEPROM data are being cached onto the RAM for faster/flexible access. Your mileage may vary depending on how big those two will use. If you disable it at BIOS it will cause slowdowns if at worst. <1> Tainted-Time, and then do the following, each on seperate lines: sudo modprobe wlan, sudo modprobe ath_hal, sudo modprobe ath_pci <1> Tainted-Time, with out the ,'s of course.
