<1> dooglus: nonstandard repositories?
<2> i used expert mode to install ubuntu 5.10 than i chose network install did it install debian or ubuntu?
<3> and does anyone happen to use one of those usb keyboad and mouse to usb type combo?
<3> mnkplzg: I don't see how installing ubuntu 5.10 would lead to installing debian
<2> when u use expert install, than network install, u choose repositories server. and on that lists there were debian server
<2> s
<4> hatake_kakashi, I have
<3> mnkplzg: hmm
<5> hey folks
<6> can I get vlc to play google videoes instead of flash?
<2> now synaptic does not want to run form menu neither update manager
<4> captainredbeard, no
<0> bimberi: I'm only using standard repositories.
<0> bimberi: but I'm using dapper
<3> Seveas: do you happen to know how to get those kbd bindings correctly? it seems like my arrow keys on a standard 104 US keyboard seems to respond very differently when I press those keys. ie, pressing them causing Gnome to open up screenshot. I checked to see if there was a way to make it so that those arrow keys to work, but to no avail, it just does not seem to have a choice there. I was wondering if you have solved that problem?

<1> dooglus: ah, well all bets are off then :P
<7> #ubuntu on irc.freenode.net
<1> dooglus: you could try vnc4server or tightvncserver, there were font issues with them in the past, there are fixes around though
<1> k4ncil73: correct
<0> bimberi: vnc4server was the first thing I tried.
<6> Seveas, is there anyway to make flash perform a bit better then? I get about 75% cpu usgae when its playing video
<4> hatake_kakashi, you probably have a different model - mine works perfectly out of the box
<0> bimberi: I'll try tightvncserver though, thanks.
<4> captainredbeard, poke macromedia
<3> Seveas: hmm, bah, thanks anyway
<0> bimberi: that's installing.
<8> Hi!
<1> dooglus: kk (crosses fingers)

<8> i hawe just installed ubuntu linux.. but where i get my root p***wd
<4> !tell tina__ about root
<4> AnsiC, probably because there is no command named httpd...
<6> Anyone know how to get networking in VMware working? It just crashes and hangs up gnome with whatever I try, version 5.5.1
<10> sudo p***wd root
<11> hi all - I cannot play .rm or .ra files with realplayer on breezy,, help anyone!

<10> np tina
<0> bimberi: tncvncserver is running, and I can connect to the server; but there's nothing on the display; just a grey pattern.
<8> and allso Seveas
<0> bimberi: no window manager, panels, or anything
<12> how to using source files in python?
<0> Irvine: "python file.py"
<13> gtg
<14> killapop, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/RestrictedFormats/
<14> dooglus, that's a pain x session. ;)
<14> captainredbeard, network in vmware should jsut work if you install correctly.
<0> rikai: I just noticed I can: "DISPLAY=:1 xclock" - ie. there's no access control for the session.
<15> dooglus: did you start a wm before vnc?
<0> rikai: any idea how I convince it to run a GNOME session?
<0> liable: vnc starts the X server, so it's not possible to start a wm before it
<14> dooglus, http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=76638&highlight=tightvnc+gnome+howto
<15> hrm, i had kde without an xserver running from vnc..
<0> rikai: I don't suppose you have a "how to copy text from a Cygwin shell window" URL too?
<0> rikai: I think it's just a regular MSDOS prompt window, but it's on a Czech windows box, so it's hard to find how to turn quick-edit on
<16> hi. could anyone help me get my palm synced with ubuntu?
<6> is anyone here familur with with windows program PCCam?
<14> dooglus, To copy from a Cygwin Bash window, highlight the text by left clicking and dragging the mouse, then hit the enter key to copy the text.
<9> but apache must have httpd command
<0> rikai: I can't drag - nothing happens
<9> not only httpd.conf
<15> AnsiC: apachectl
<15> AnsiC: read some apache docs
<2> can somebody tell me aprox. how long i install ubuntu from cd? 1,5 celleron 256 ram

<14> dooglus, you're starting the bash shell via: Start up bash by doing Start -> Programs -> Cygwin -> Cygwin Bash\ Shell.
<14> correct?
<16> mnkplzg: maybe an hour?
<14> j2dope, what palm?
<16> rikai: zire 72
<0> rikai: no, I'm using a shortcut that I found on the desktop
<0> rikai: but it's probably the same thing
<16> i've followed the instuctions on the web, but no luck
<14> dooglus, cant hurt to try...
<0> rikai: I think it uses an MSDOS Shell window
<0> rikai: it's not my PC, so I asked it not to mess with the start menu.
<17> for those who are interested, I solved my rubygem setup error by copying /usr/lib/ruby/1.8/i686-linux/zlib.so to /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby/1.8/i686-linux
<1> dooglus: sorry, my experience is mainly with 'vncserver' which has usually just worked (tm) :/
<14> dooglus, *shrug* then i have no idea, that's the proper way to do it, if it doesnt work, i dont know what to tell you.
<14> dooglus, try right clicking and clicking on something that says "set mark" or osmething to that efect
<14> and see if it works.
<14> mnkplzg, probably under an hour.
<0> rikai: I think I had to turn on "quick edit" mode. (or "rezim rychlych uprav" as this PC calls it)
<0> rikai: it's Czech windows...
<14> dooglus, http://www.gigascale.org/softdevel/faq/24.html
<0> rikai: the first step in getting GNOME running in that thread is to click the "System" menu(!)
<0> rikai: if I had a "System" menu, I would already be in GNOME!!
<4> dooglus, rofl :D
<14> j2dope, try either the program gnome-pilot or the program jpilot
<18> running two small hard drives (10g - master, 6g - slave); what should I make the Access Path on the second hard drive (non-boot) ?
<19> dbernar1, thanks... but no luck yet... gotta run now!
<0> it looks like I'm going to have to go home and start up 'vino' from the console.
<0> thanks for trying to help though guys.
<14> dooglus, you have to set it up from from the working end, or edit the config files manually.
<14> dooglus, no ssh access? ;)
<0> rikai: I am using ssh now.
<14> catchphrase, access path?
<0> rikai: and I'm not adverse to editing config files either
<18> rikai, yeah I want to format it.
<14> dooglus, then i believe... (not sure), that you can edit those options in gdm.conf
<18> it's asking for format type and Access Path (shows /boot but i don't think I want /boot...)
<1> dooglus: $HOME/.vnc/xstartup - "A shell script specifying X applications to be run when a VNC desktop is started."
<14> catchphrase, just use gparted to format it. ;)
<0> bimberi: what's the 'X application' to add to that file to start up GNOME?
<1> dooglus: i'll install "vncserver" here and have a look ...
<18> i'm just navigating around in Disks Manager; i still can't figure out how to open a terminal screen.
<0> bimberi: try it with tightvncserver, 'cos that's the only one I seem to be able to install in dapper
<18> thought it would be right clicking the desktop to load a terminal screen... not there :T
<9> ufff
<9> http://wbn.ath.cx/sender/
<9> i want is able to receive files by that pages
<20> dooglus: there's a reason we tell people not to run dapper ;)
<9> http://wbn.ath.cx/sender/prova.html
<9> someone can help me ?
<14> dooglus, i'm pretty sure its: gnome-wm
<21> is there a repository i can connect to that has synergy
<21> or is there an easy way to get access to the package?
<14> catchphrase, open synaptic, and search for gparted
<14> catchphrase, install it, and then you'll be able to find it under applications > system tools
<14> catchphrase, as for how to open a terminal, look for sometihng that says "terminal" in the applications menu. ;)
<20> Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal
<18> oh man. wicked retarded.
<1> dooglus: (will try tightvncserver next) I installed vncserver, it runs /etc/X11/Xsession at vnc startup - so you could try symlinking to that from ~/.vnc/xstartup
<15> is there a newer 64 one?
<18> well, gotta learn one way or the other.
<14> NET||abuse, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SynergyHowto
<14> liable, 64 one of what?
<15> nm
<18> rikai- gparted didn't show up. though now i have other issues to deal with- swapped motherboards & soundcard. everything, surprisingly, seems to be fine, except now my NIC isn't quite working.
<18> the LEDs come on, it's detected by the system, and it was working on the previous motherboard.
<21> why is the wiki all in httpd?
<21> https even... ?
<15> cause they can?
<14> NET||abuse, because of the launchpad integration.
<21> launchpad... umm, an app server system?
<22> launchpad.net
<22> you don't need a www for it
<14> catchphrase, catchphrase, you've got to make it reconfiguer your network.
<4> NET||abuse, sending p***words in plain text is not good..
