<0> NET||abuse, join me in #rootsudo
<1> what is the url / line in sources.list for multiverse?
<2> lo all. I'm trying to set up my ubuntu desktop to auth against ldap. su'ing to a LDAP'ed user works fine, however gdm failes with 'cannot set your user group ... ". None of the resources that I've found help out. what log files can I check 2 help me out?
<3> berkes, tried looking at this? http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-76559.html
<4> !tell berkes about repos
<5> !tell berkes about multiverse
<6> dbernarl When I run it in the terminal, it complains about the ps/2 port. I don't think I can run it except at startup before the default mouse driver (I think)
<1> I see only howtos with clicketyclick interfaces. But I want to use vim :)
<5> hmm, some plot beat me...
<7> liquidindian: run "which tpconfig"
<1> thanks the pastebin is nice.
<6> Ah, sorry.
<4> berkes: "sudo vim /etc/apt/sources.list" then
<1> Mapionetka: doh. I know that.
<6> dbernarl it said "/usr/bin/tpconfig
<6> '

<1> Madpilot, its the url / location I did not knw.
<1> know
<8> sudo updatedb |locate file . simple
<4> berkes: for Breezy: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6047
<1> Madpilot, thanks.
<4> np
<7> liquidindian: this is not something I am sure about. From what I read there, you should "sudo ln -l /usr/bin/tpconfig /etc/rc3.d/s91tpconfig
<7> '
<9> Would you recommend using gTweakUI to change my slash?
<7> ;)
<7> Has anyone here ever changed their splash?
<8> boot grub or gnome
<7> boot
<10> guys, how do I make the id3 tags of MP3s in a different language (russian or japanese) to display correctly in the media player (vlc) and not just question marks?
<11> what is the difference between initramfs and initrd?
<8> from http://www.bootsplash.org/ then no
<9> Well guess I'll try it.
<7> rewt_: did you try that page I linked?
<6> derek: Kanji makes as much sense as a row of question marks...
<9> I didn't see a linked page, sorry.
<7> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/USplashCustomizationHowto
<10> liquidindian, ???
<9> thnx
<11> my ubuntu install on the hp amd64 hangs here: acpi: subsystem revision 20050729
<6> ;)
<6> Well, to me it does...
<10> I'm talking about myself
<10> and my computer
<1> random though for the adept/ pakackage managers devs: Maintain a log of installed applications on each run.
<7> meenfreem: --no-acpi?
<5> derek_, you may need to put them in the correct encoding (probably UTF8)
<6> Um, sorry mate.
<7> berkes: popcon.ubuntu.com
<1> when I install xine (e.g.) all xine + dependencies are installed.
<11> dbernar1, no.acpi? I'm not too familiar with all the terms
<10> Seveas, where do I set that from?
<7> meenfreem: try that as your boot option.
<1> then when I want to de-install I can "undo" that particular installation batch.
<7> berkes: use aptitude to install and remove packages, it remembers what came with what.
<1> dbernar1: adept does not. guess ill have to move this idea to #kubuntu then,
<11> dbernar1, just type --no-acpi?
<6> dbernarl can I ask what that does, to increase my miniscule knowledge?
<6> dbernarl is it different from shortcuts in windows?
<7> liquidindian: you can always ask. It links the tpconfig to be in luevel 3. https://wiki.ubuntu.com/USplashCustomizationHowto
<7> sorry
<7> I usually run tpconfig from a start-up script which (on my RH system) goes in /etc/rc.d/init.d (and linked under various run levels as S84touchpad) to turn off the tap mode. Installation of this script and links for run levels 3 and 5 are now performed by the binary rpm
<7> that is what the page you linked says.
<7> man ln to find out about it. not much different afaik
<12> which program should i use to learn programming?
<7> bash
<13> me a happy bunny now, green day blareing on the headphones and got root!! :)
<6> what do levels in this context mean?
<7> Irvine: that is not a great question. What are you trying to learn?
<13> thanks for the help ompaul
<1> Irvine: that is a bit of an odd question
<11> dbernar1, what command would that be in order to avoid that acpi?
<12> programming
<7> liquidindian: when your computer boots, it starts programs in a certain order, by their level, or something.
<1> it is like asking what book should I buy to learn reading
<14> i have installed phpbb2 but don't know how to configure it to start using it
<14> anyone uses phpbb on ubuntu?

<7> meenfreem: something like install --no-acpi on the boot prompt, I do not know exactly. It is more of a hint.
<13> dorto: it's all mysql database stuff
<0> NET||abuse, np
<1> Irvine: what do you want to learn. Where do you want to use it for and what do you want to achieve.
<15> !test
<16> Failed.
<13> dorto: just get the config php file and setup the relevant variables.
<7> Irvine: do you have a programming language in mind?
<11> dbernar1, thanks...i'll see if i can dig something up :D
<7> cafuego: sup?
<15> dbernar1: botsnack
<12> dbernarl: yes
<7> meenfreem: good luck.
<7> cafuego: :)
<1> Irvine: KDE has a very nice low level klick-and-point learn to program environment, lemme search
<14> NET||abuse: which config file? /etc/phpbb2/config.php? where should i copy that after modifying it?
<0> cafuego, he went for a walk and came back
<6> dbernarl it's complaining about the -l option.
<7> we noticed, cafuego
<13> it's in etc/ ?? hmm
<7> liquidindian: did I say ln -l? just ln.
<13> dorto: i've never installphpbb2 as a nix package before
<13> i've always just unpacked the .tar.gz
<12> berkes: its name
<1> http://edu.kde.org/kturtle/index.php Irvine,
<13> well if the package manager unpacked to /etc/ i'd leave it there
<14> i too have installed phpbb using manual installation
<7> http://www.openfree.org/forums/showthread.php?t=12439
<7> dorto: ^
<14> k, thx
<10> kon'nichiwa hatake_kakashi
<15> phpbb, or, come root my server
<17> kon'nichiwa derek_ :) but I'm no Japanese
<1> Irvine: and do not let yourself be held back by the sentence "for young children". That is somewhat misleading. It is very nice if you have no programming knowledge at all.
<8> jacky chan
<10> hatake_kakashi, yes I saw that :)
<17> derek_: heh :)
<10> hatake_kakashi, so you're learning JP mate?
<7> dorto: not sure whether that page is good.
<17> derek_: somewhat
<14> dbernar1: that is again the manual method...i should have done that instead of trying the synaptic/apt-get way
<14> manual method is so simple :)
<17> does anyone happen to know how to make gnome (not KDE) run specific applications that you specify?
<7> cafuego: heh
<7> Irvine: what prog language do you have in mind?
<12> dbernarl: nothing
<7> dr. robotgeek...
<10> hatake_kakashi, type the name of the program and hit enter?
<18> hatake_kakashi, when you startup?
<19> yes dbernar1
<20> hello, i installed kubuntu using expert mode, bacause i hade broken cd and i used network install. So it installed ubuntu with gnome. I dont mind it but now i have few problems e.g. synaptic does not want to run from the menu neither the update manager. it shows but when i clik on it it does not start
<20> how can i test the installation or repair it?
<12> dbernarl: python
<17> derek_: err, I'm looking for Alt+F2 (KDE's run program) alternative, nevermind I think I found it anyway, thanks
<17> Hysty: thanks but I think I've found it :)
<9> how do i set up a gues account with no p***word? just leave p***word box blank?
<9> *guest
<21> mnkplzg: what version of ubuntu?
<20> 5.1
<20> 5.10
<18> does anyone here have a graphics tablet working in Ubuntu?
<7> Irvine: I used this page: http://www.byteofpython.info/ and the idle ide.
<11> grumple... seems like i'm not alone...
<7> heh
<12> dbernarl: got it
<13> i've got a buffalo G54S pc card, anyone used one of these with ndis?
<22> I have logged in to my ubuntu box using ssh, but I forgot to set up a VNC server on it.
<22> can I set it up remotely using the ssh connection?
<10> Does anyone know how to set UTF8 for VLC media player ?
<23> dooglus: sure, install vncserver, then start it up with the command 'vncserver' (as you, not root)
<22> bimberi: vncserver depends on xserver-common, but it is not installable
