<0> make: *** [scripts_basic] Error 2
<0> root@dbase:/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.12#
<1> ah, thanks
<2> you're welcome :)
<3> i noticed this error when reinstalling gdm. : invoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action "reload" failed.
<0> what didn't i do ?
<4> ubuntu is asking me for a "Media change" when i attempt to do an "apt-get install" ... is there something wrong with the repositories or is it likely something i've done?
<5> g'night all
<0> night
<2> adriyel_sleepiez: g'nite
<6> how would one play a midi file?
<1> ardchoille: er, when I select the theme, do I choose "install theme"? I dont know where the directory is
<7> Invalid Encoder Executable
<7> How might I fix this?

<8> w32, did you install build-essential?
<3> Madraykin, in hte gdmsetup screen choose graphical theme instead of gtk theme
<3> then go to the themes tab and choose the theme you want
<1> er ...
<0> yes i did
<3> i've never used the theme installer there
<1> ok I got it, mcdenyer
<0> i saw gcc install
<3> i wouldn't recommend it, just install the gdm themes packages as well
<1> mcquaid
<2> redblade: you have to use the full path to the encoder
<7> What would the full path be?
<2> for ogg?
<7> MP3
<1> whats the lastest firefox ver right now?
<9> does anyone know how to enable the effects menu in inkscape .43?
<1> 1.0.7?
<1> or is it 1.5
<1> 1.5.1
<10> mcquade: btw, earlier you needed to edit /etc/X11/default-display-manager, but you left before I could type it.
<3> carpediem, sorry i thought i solved it
<3> let me check there one sec
<11> Madraykin: 1.07 in repos, available 1.5.1.
<2> redblade: sudo apt-get install lame and then set the encoder to lame, the path is /usr/bin/lame
<7> cool
<2> redblade: that is what I use to rip a CD to mp3
<0> root@dbase:/bin# apt-get install build-essential
<0> Reading package lists... Done
<0> Building dependency tree... Done
<0> build-essential is already the newest version.
<0> 0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 2 not upgraded.
<0> wtf ???
<2> redblade: after you install lame, restart grip and it may have the path in there for you, mine did
<3> carpediem, contents of default-display-manager /usr/sbin/gdm
<12> !tell w32 about pastebin
<3> so that looks fine
<7> okay
<10> mcquaid: yeah
<7> I think it worked this time!
<10> w32: you already installed it
<3> in the script in init.d for gdm i see:
<2> redblade: :)
<3> DEFAULT_DISPLAY_MANAGER_FILE=/etc/X11/default-display-manager
<3> so thats fine as well
<0> i know so why the error when i make menuconfig ?
<7> ardchoille : )
<13> once i finish a d/l in amule, where exactly does that file go
<13> I've never used aMule before.
<13> wrong channel sry
<14> heh
<10> mcquaid: still no gdm?
<3> no
<15> w32: is there a .config in that dir?
<3> well i'd have to reboot to test, but i haven't found anything new to try yet
<16> hello all!
<3> carpediem, as i mentioned though it runs fine, but only manually
<3> it's not starting up automatically
<10> mcquaid: right, that's strange, considering. Have you looked in the xorg log?
<13> mcquid what exactly is the prob?
<13> I think I had a similar prob. as you at one point.
<10> rewt_: gdm doesn't come up at boot, but he can start it manually

<17> X
<0> where
<18> hi all,
<0> in what directory
<15> w32: ls -la in the source dir.
<17> NO
<14> how do I get new gnome themes?
<18> is there any commercial app for dvd video authouring converting and burning for *linux*
<13> mcquid, what video card are you using?
<0> no config
<3> rewt_, i screwed up switching from kdm to gdm, when removing kdm, it asked me if i wanted to stop the kdm process now which i accidently clicked
<15> w32: copy /boot/config-blah-whatever ./.config
<3> so i don't think it completed the gdm install
<13> hmm
<0> huh ?
<15> mcquaid: so apt-get install gdm again.
<2> kyo: there are lots of themes at: gnome-look.org and art.gnome.org
<3> since then i've done a few complete removals of gdm, reconfigure, keep choosing gdm as default but it doesn't start automatically
<3> liable, i've done that 4 times now
<3> the error i noticed was:
<15> w32: mcquaid tried apt-get -f install?
<3> invoke-rc.d: initscript gdm, action "reload" failed.
<13> mcquid
<14> ardchoille, : thank you
<3> also this:
<3> Adding new user `gdm' (104) with group `gdm'.
<3> ome directory `/var/lib/gdm' already exists.
<14> er, whats the lastest firefox version?
<14> 1.5?
<13> did you change /etc/sysconfig/desktop
<13> ?
<15> w32: make sure you are in the source dir, cp /boot/config-<tab> ./.config
<3> so complete removal wasn't clearing /var/lib/gdm if that could be having an effect
<13> from DESKTOP="gnome to DESKTOP="KDE"
<13> ?
<19> kyo. 1.5.1 is available
<3> i haven't touched /etc/sysconfig/desktop
<13> check that
<13> make sure it's correct
<14> timfrost, do i get it off synamtic or off firefox site?
<3> there is no /etc/sysconfig
<0> cd /boot
<19> !ff1.5
<20> You can use firefox 1.5 by following this wiki page https://wiki.ubuntu.com/FirefoxNewVersion
<15> w32: no
<0> found config
<19> kyo, follow the istructions from ubotu - ff1.5 is NOT in the repositories for breezu
<14> interesting
<14> I checked and its the outdated ver
<15> w32: you need to copy it, and name it .config
<13> http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-85228.html
<0> copy config.2.6.12-9-386
<13> check that out mcquin
<0> and .config at the end of it and put it where
<0> or just .config
<14> as a user, can IN install firefox? Or do I need to log in as root or do sudo ...
<15> w32: i gave you the command..
<3> rewt_, looking it over. not sure it applies to me
<3> here is someone with the my problem, but no solution
<3> http://www.ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=97527&highlight=gdm
<19> w32, cp /boot/config.2.6.12-9-386 /usr/src/linux-source-2.6.12/.config
<15> !beer timfrost
<20> liable: Huh? Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<13> eh sorry, guess i misunderstood your problem.
<13> sorry about that
<11> Any way to change input type in XChat?
<15> mcquaid: apt-get remove --purge gdm
<19> kyo, you can install FF1.5 as either. If you do so as yourself, you will have to create a directory under your home directory for it. If you install using sudo, you can put it in /opt or /usr/local (or anywhere else you choose)
<15> mcquaid: then install it again
<3> well i marked it for complete removal from syaptic which i believe is the equivelent to --purge at cli
<15> mcquaid: yes, can you paste all the output of doing that to a paster?
<3> i already did install it again
<3> but i'll paste the output one sec
<15> mcquaid: from apt-get, not synaptic
