<3> caminomaster: there are alsa midi apps and oss midi apps. alsa emulates oss, but if you use an oss midi app (or an oss pcm app), it will prevent other alsa and oss apps from using the sound device. This is the case only if your sound chipset doesn't support hardware multiopen.
