<1> hey guys... was trying to make ubuntu recognise my ps2 mouse by editing the xorg.conf file which i did, but each time i did it i restarted and got an error to do with the xserver, something graphical, so that all i got was the black and white writing. after rebooting a few times i gave up and reinstalled linux. it worked fine again, but then when i tried to edit the xorg.conf file it did it again! i re installed again and dont dare
<1> touch the xorg.conf file but im still worried it will do it again so i dont dare reboot. anyone know whats going on?
<1> and besides that, i still cant get it to recognise my mouse? any suggs?
<2> Doesn't work. I'm just going to reinstall, my computer is more messed up than when I first came here
<2> thanks anyway
<3> tritium: had be goin' for a sec
<4> nickrud: :)

<4> quickblaine: normally, you need do nothing
<5> linux users reinstalling because of X config issue?
<6> I am looking at installing ubuntu and I was wondering if it has any other color schemes than the default brown. Are there any screenshots of these?

<7> gnome-look.org
<5> i'm pretty sure you can use any gnome theme.
<1> tritium: yeh, but im on a laptop, its found the touchpad but not the ps2 mouse. when i move it the touchpad freezes for a bit so i think it sees in in some respect.
<3> mdmkolbe: check out System-Preferences-Theme, and art.gnome.org
<4> void^: unnessary. only for the impatient
<4> quickblaine: breezy?
<8> is there a program available to Ubuntu that allows you to record your screen? Like to make a video?
<1> tritium: yeh, 5.10
<3> erez: istanbul I think it's called
<4> quickblaine: have you tried loading the "psmouse" module?
<9> i need some help, typing xinit gives me X: user not authorized to run the X server, aborting.
<1> tritium: no, how do i go about doing that?
<9> any tips?
<4> quickblaine: sudo modprobe psmouse
<5> touchpad+external hotplugged mouse is a bit difficult
<4> quickblaine: is it loaded already?
<3> zth: try echo "gnome-session" >> ~/.xsession && startx
<5> may have to add both devices to the xorg.conf separately
<8> zth, did you try sudo xinit ?
<10> Hey trying to get ssh running on a strange port and not having luck. Ssh works fine but if I change sshd_config to port 3210 it refuses to answer.
<4> zth: most users use the default display manager
<11> zth: try runnning gdm/kdm
<9> nickrud, gives me the same thing
<1> tritium: did that, nothing happened
<9> i'm trying to start an additional server at display 1
<3> zth: startx -- :1
<3> zth: I think
<12> thats right
<12> startx -- :1
<9> still gives me "user not authorized"
<3> TeRaHuRtZ: thanks, it's been a while
<4> quickblaine: can you paste your /proc/bus/input/devices on pastebin please?
<13> ciao
<1> tritium: eh? whats pastebin?
<3> zth: I don't know X near enough to help troubleshoot that.
<4> !tell quickblaine about paste
<13> do you speak italian?
<4> not here, samuel
<4> !it
<14> Vai su #ubuntu-it o su #kubuntu-it se vuoi parlare in italiano, in questo canale usiamo solo l'inglese. Grazie!
<9> nickrud, ok thanks anyway
<15> downloaded mplayer from ubuntu but there isn't any text file how do I install mplayer? I only been on linux for a few days any hint would help me greatly
<3> zth: maybe one more thing: rm ~/.Xauthority and try again?
<16> hello
<16> how can i make some free space? like removing log files or clearing apt cache
<10> where is sshd running? I am used to /etc/init.d/sshd but it's not there. a quick locate shows that it's installed as openssh-server
<3> zth: no, not right I don't think
<4> ssh-less: did you install it?
<1> tritium: what should i name it?
<10> tritium, I installed openssh-server
<4> ssh-less: it should auto-start after install, and upon each reboot. You can "sudo invoke-rc.d ssh restart" to restart it.
<10> Thanks, Tritium
<10> Very much
<4> ssh-less: sure. :)
<1> tritium: what should i name the pastebin thing?
<4> quickblaine: anything you like. just let me know
<13> ciao
<13> italian
<17> afternoon all! was wondering if the PLF repository was down, I can't seem to get any ubuntu packages from them
<4> I already told you, samuel
<13> you have got gnome meeting?

<18> nickrud: Would you know how I could change ownership of a folder so I could copy some files into it
<19> Does breezy badger have a known problem with external dvdwriters?
<19> I have a problem writing dvd with the device and not cd
<13> you have got gnome meeting?
<1> tritium: ok there ya go.
<17> Makura: do you want to be the primary owner?
<18> ninzin: I have no clue, I just need to copy some files to a directory
<18> ninzin: I figured ownership must be what's keeping me from doing so
<10> tritium: in /etc/ssh/sshd i did strict mode no, saved, restarted and still I am told that it is in strict mode. Know what gives?
<20> ./jquest: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory but I did mark the upgrade in synaptic
<17> Makura: there are a couple of issues to consider. one who owns it and two who can write to it. if you just want anyone to be able to write to it try: sudo chmod 777 /path/to/directory
<18> ninzin: I'll try that, thanks
<10> n /etc/ssh/sshd i did strict mode no, saved, restarted and still I am told that it is in strict mode. Know what gives?
<1> tritium: i posted it on there, what now?
<17> afternoon all! was wondering if the PLF repository was down, I can't seem to get any ubuntu packages from them

<18> nickrud: Thanks
<1> tritium: quickblaine
<20> ninzin, I tried to mark and load libsdl-image1.2
<17> Makura: points to nickrud's link ::good read::
<18> ninzin: Okay. =p
<20> but i get the following error: ./jquest: error while loading shared libraries: libSDL_image-1.2.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
<20> nincin!
<20> ninzin
<21> ?
<22> Hallo?
<23> ?
<17> idefix: I can't seem to get any info from that repository not sure if same issue or no.
<6> If I install flight 5 now, then when dapper final comes out, would it be better to do a clean reinstall or just update to it via apt?
<20> so we have to wait a couple of days and then everything'll work again?!
<20> ninzin
<20> ?
<24> hey everybody, I had a question about installing
<24> during install I get an error message after it detects my cd-rom, it says error in mounting CD, check to make sure the CD is in the drive, which I know it is, and I tell it to try mounting again and I get the same error message
<25> what the hell
<25> my keyboard keys all work now?
<21>
<25> they never worked before
<3> idefix: try installing libsdl-image1.2
<24> I get this just after I choose my country, language etc. about 10 seconds into the install
