<0> gazanfer, here's a sample of my menu.1st and i'm dual booting xp to help you out a little. http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/10058
<1> my screen wacks out and it freezes
<2> i486SL: it's worth reburning to test the theory
<3> ok
<4> gnomefreak how would I go about that?
<5> whyami, I'm sorry, I need to leave. :/ Try checking the Ubuntu forums if no one else here can help you.
<3> i will try that one too
<6> SilentJ: at what point?
<3> noted.
<7> nhaines: no problem. thanks.
<8> chuckyp, How do i save an archive modified in vim ?
<9> Nogimics: in /etc/apt/sources.list the line that starts with cdrom its the very first one put a # infront of it
<5> whyami, try that or the wiki. It was the wiki that got me set up long ago. :)
<0> Ropechoborra, what do you mean a file modified with vim?
<10> I'm registering for the ubuntu forums, anyone want to be the person that referred me?
<9> Nogimics: than take the # away from lines that start with word deb

<11> thanks for help. now i downloaded diskmounter, run it, and succeeded mounting my winxp partition. do i need to do anything else?
<12> Anywhon know if there is a special cs for Sparc ?
<4> ok will try
<1> umm, press enter to start installation... goes threw all the text then aparently when it is about to boot to the GUI it wacks out
<5> CFNinja, be sure and check out the amazing Ubuntu forums. ;)
<3> frogzoo: one more question..to speed up the installation..can i install this system from the HDD?
<9> gazanfer: the diskmounter isnt gonna help you boot to xp
<8> chuckyp, yep.. i modified the xorg.conf and i want to save it..
<0> gazanfer, yeah to boot xp you need to edit /boot/grub/menu.1st and append the xp partitoin in there so you can dual boot it. If thats what you are after.
<10> That good eh?
<11> ok ill try that now
<0> Ropechoborra, hit esc they type : then w to write then q to quit
<8> Ok
<9> make sure windows has chainloader +1 i think it is
<6> SilentJ: so it install ok, reboots, then screws up before you get the login screen?
<0> gnomefreak, yeah
<2> i486SL: I don't think ubuntu installs from HDD afaik :(
<0> i486SL, sure you can
<5> Take care, everyone. :)
<0> i486SL, but pita to do.
<13> see ya haines
<10> Anyone experience any caveats with the live cd for a G3 imac? I can't seem to get mine to boot from the cd.
<14> Afternoon
<3> frogzoo: last questions: what do you think about BeOS?
<3> alternative to linux?
<15> CFNinja, don't you only have to press the c button while booting for your mac to boot to the cdrom drive ?
<12> Anywhon know if there is a special cs for Sparc ?
<10> that was my thought
<6> linuxjones: that is corect
<16> hey everybody I have a question
<7> !irq
<17> whyami: Not a clue. Try searching at http://ubuntu.cc.com.au/
<18> cd*
<8> chuckyp, it says it is in readonly
<19> hmm, why can't I download source with "apt-get source *name*"?
<10> I burned the iso from a pc. I wonder if that makes a difference. Shouldn't.
<0> Ropechoborra, you need to edit it using sudo
<20> I need help with administration
<7> is there a reference for diagnosing and fixing irq conflicts?
<21> In enlightenment, when trying to go to the "debian menus->apps->net", so many items come up the menu gets scrolled and then disappears. Any help?
<0> Ropechoborra, so you would do sudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf or sudo nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf that way you can write the file since you need root to do it.
<16> I just installed Ubuntu yesterday (an older version I think) it came with Firefox 1.07 I want to update to the latest Firefox, how do I do it? I have the latest version downloaded, i just can't figure out where to extract it to.
<21> In enlightenment, when trying to go to the "debian menus->apps->net", so many items come up the menu gets scrolled and then disappears. Any help?
<0> !tell Codenut about ask
<15> CFNinja, does the livedcd actually start or you just can't boot to cdrom drive ?
<0> !tell slickeddie about ff1.5
<2> i486SL: I'll fess up - never tried it *shrug*
<3> ok ;)
<16> thanks chucky i'll give it a try
<15> whyami, you're running an old 16 bit device ?
<9> recon00: logout and log back in see if that helps
<6> slickeddie: just extract it to your home folder, then run firefox from that folder
<10> So far I can't boot to the cd when OS 8 (yes, original imac release collecting dust on my desk) it wants to initialize the CD.
<10> Hmmm.
<8> chuckyp, can i talk to you in query ?
<0> recon00, also ask in #debian maybe
<0> Ropechoborra, yeah
<9> chuckyp: i would have sent him to #enlightenment first but im sure they will send him there ;)
<7> LinuxJones: no I'm running a fairly modern Laptop. I'm trying to figure out why ndiswrapper sometimes hangs the entire machine.
<20> I need to remove access to things for my young son, such as browsing and administration when he logs on using his username. I just want hiim to have chat and openoffice here in the Garage.
<15> CFNinja, maybe you burned the livecd.iso as a file rather than an actual image file.

<15> whyami, what kind of machine do you have ?
<22> heh I did that for the first time in ages the other day LinuxJones
<23> whyami: are you trying to start and restart ndiswrapper like this sudo /etc/init.d/ndiswrapper stop
<7> LinuxJones: Dell Latitude D600
<15> vader, everyone has done it at least once :)
<15> whyami, let me have a look around
<7> sorush20: no, just ifup wlan0 and ifdown wlan0
<10> LinuxJones: that's a good thought but the tool I use for burning is specific for writing isos. I'm going to reburn anyway.
<23> whyami: do you get any errors?
<10> digg had something the other day about the new release is "almost" out. Is 5.10 what they were referring to?
<21> Gnomefreak: Nope, didn't help. I think that the problem is that the menu is too big to fit on the screen.
<22> I am currently using Dapper, only problem I have found thus far is I cannot get the broadcom wireless working for some dumb reason, but I will one of these days lol
<7> sorush20: none that I have found. I'm not sure I have checked the system logs.
<2> Codenut: just remove the user from group admin
<15> whyami, >> https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupportMachinesLaptopsDell?highlight=%28laptop%29
<16> what is the default root p***word? The installer didn't let me choose one
<23> vader: there is development being done on making a driver for it look on google..
<9> recon00: open menu at top of screen hold mouse over opened menu it should stay there
<2> CFNinja: breezy is 5.10 - the new release will be dapper
<23> whyami: are you sure you have set the interfaces file right?
<10> thx
<15> whyami, looks like an easy fix for you there
<23> whyami: paste it as a link so that we can take a look
<21> gnomefreak: nope. the new net menu actually scrolls the rest of the menu off the screen so I can't pick it.
<6> slickeddie: root is disabled, use sudo for admin tasks
<7> LinuxJones: the D600 listed there has a different wireless card.
<0> !tell slickeddie about sudo
<22> I have.....like I said one of these days
<22> no worries sorush20
<23> slickeddie: there is no root you just type sudo and your p***word..
<15> whyami, yeah but it's the same problem
<24> !sources
<17> To enable Universe and Multiverse see http://wiki.ubuntu.com/AddingRepositoriesHowto - Official sources.lists here: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6047 (Breezy) or http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/6666 (Dapper) see also !easysource
<21> slickeddie: if you want to enable it, try sudo p***wd root. that will enable the root account.
<15> whyami, more than likely it will fix your problem
<9> recon00: in terminal type update-menus that hopfully will fix it
<23> LinuxJones: what did you recommend to whyami
<7> LinuxJones: are you talking about disabling the parallel port? Yeah I did that already...
<25> How can i chat in text mode?
<7> !paste
<17> Don't flood the channel! Please use the pastebin at http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/ or the channel #flood to paste large amount of text.
<21> gnomefreak: 1. it didn't work. 2. if you can tell me how to edit the contents of the menu then I think I can fix it
<0> ropechoborra, what do you mean chat?
<23> ropechoborra: what do you mean explain
<0> sorush20, lol
<25> chuckyp, enter the IRC in text mode
<26> ropechoborra, ...In the terminal?
<0> ropechoborra, irssi is one client. bitchx is another
<0> ropechoborra, I think irssi is installed by default.
<25> Yep
<9> recon00: on that menu im not sure try #enlightenment they maybe can help more
<15> sorush20, there's a fix on the wiki for p***ing noacpi in grub or disabling the paralell port in his laptop's biox
<2> ropechoborra: irssi
<25> What should i do then?
<0> ropechoborra, if not you just sudo apt-get one of them that you want.
<0> ropechoborra, type in irssi in a terminal
<7> sorush20: here's my interfaces file: http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/10055
<23> LinuxJones: thanks..
<0> !irssi
<17> irssi is probably http://f0rked.com/core/irssi
<2> ropechoborra: then '/connect irc.freenode.org'
<25> Ok
<0> Frogzoo, isn't it freenode.net
<2> chuckyp: maybe it is, but irc.freenode.org works for me :D
<0> Frogzoo, yeah either works.
<23> whyami: have you done a auto wlan0?
<27> Asterisk Installation met problem ? Can anyone help me ?
<28> hello
<2> karachi: you'd probly do better in an asterisk specific channel I'm guessing
<7> sorush20: I've done ifup wlan0. It works *most* of the time, then occ***ionally the whole machine including the mouse becomes unresponsive.
<29> if i convert our company from windows to ubuntu, will this provide us with the ability to see what website the employees are visiting?
<30> Hi, kde has just crashed to gdm and now I can not start it anymore (reboboted etc. allready)... it says dcopserver isn't running, if I try to start dcopserver manually I get an error
<30> also Gnome is hanging when starting it
<23> whyami: add the line auto wlan0 to you interfaces file... before the iface wlan0 inet dhcp
