<0> Mosi: ok!
<1> Lani: gedit, and all other gui applications will never work in alt-ctrl-f1. use a text editor there, like vi or nano.
<2> okay, on a terminal: cat /etc/resolv.conf
<3> Lani: other ones are Pico, which is simple and pretty easy to learn, or Emacs
<2> and tell me if it's different
<4> flux...not really a minimalist...just trying to squeeze as much as I can out of four year old hardware
<0> ok
<5> Hi - there is some dependency problem blocking the finishing of my dist-upgrade from hoary. How can I get on? It says that dpkg is trying to overwrite some file that's also in another package...
<3> Lani: if yoou don't know VI or Emacs, i'd say use Pico, because it's easy.
<6> hi. does anyone know how to install a new mouse cursor theme?
<7> navarone, ahh :) well even on new hardware it's runs nicer
<3> Lani: but if you plan on spending much time using connad-line editors, learn vi, because it doesn't **** :P
<3> wow, how did i make that typo twice?
<4> flux i will post a screenshot...<s>
<8> navarone, thanks
<9> when i try 2 unmout my windows partitions because they aint there any more i get the error message "umount: only root can unmount /dev/sda5 from /media/sda5" how do i fix that?

<10> anto9us, is dapper useable enough for me to install it right now?
<11> swim, I've not tried it yet
<11> !dapper
<12> can someone tell me why my max resol. is 1024? i checked xorg.conf 1152 is listed there but i cant choose it
<13> The next release of Ubuntu is Dapper Drake - /join #ubuntu+1 for discussion
<1> dan_: use sudo for now, and then fix your /etc/fstab to allow normal users to mount and unmount the drive if you want that.
<0> Mosi: ok, I try pico for now, I'm hoping to leave command-line behind for editing purposes as soon as I can get XWindows running properly ;)
<3> Lani: good luck :)
<2> Celestianpower: got that
<2> ?
<14> cwillu: Sorry
<15> Lani: strangely enough, my X is working perfectly and yet i use nano (akast pico) for most of my editing ;)
<14> cwillu: Oh, it says something else
<2> Celestianpower: #%^^## :)
<9> dabaR, i am the only user. and because they aint there any more i cant open them and access what i put on the other partitions.
<14> cwillu: Is that good?
<2> it's good in a bad way :p
<16> Question: Why is it when I start installing something that requires multiple cds, when it asks for the second CD, why can't I eject it?
<14> cwillu: Oh :(
<0> LjL: hehe ok
<1> dan_: are you saying you can not access the files?
<2> Celestianpower: go to that tab I just opened on your irc
<14> cwillu: I can't see any extra tab?
<2> :/
<2> oh well, it was worth a shot
<9> dabaR, yeah.
<2> anyway, paste me what the cat said
<4> http://paste.ubuntu-nl.org/10026 Sunky flux <--

<2> there's the problem
<14> cwillu: Ah
<12> can someone tell me why my max resol. is 1024? i checked xorg.conf 1152 is listed there but i cant choose it
<2> anybody know how to make a manually entered dns server stick when you're using dhcp for everything else?
<1> dan_: well, again, it is cause you allowed only the super user to use it. Or your system did anyhow. Can you join #dabaR? I am at work, and things scroll off the screen cause I can not constantly monitor this chat room.
